Annual Report of SPIE Student Chapter Indian School
of Mines, Dhanbad, India
(2015- 2016)
About SPIE-ISM Student Chapter
The SPIE-ISM Student chapter was inaugurated in November, 2013 with a vision to bring together
researchers working in all different fields of Optics and Photonics under a common platform to
explore opportunities and share knowledge. Since then the chapter has been successful in regularly
conducting educational and technical talks by eminent speakers all across the country. The ISM
SPIE student chapter is managed by student elected by their peers and advised by the faculty
member from ISM. This chapter did work with certain objectives to become one of the
largest branches of active student members in eastern India and therefore making its presence
felt at the national arena.
In this report, an update of SPIE-ISM Student chapter activities for the current year(2015-2016) is
presented.

(International OSA Networks of Student) IONS 2016 Dhanbad
In year 2016, Optical Society of America has selected OSA student chapter of Indian School of
Mines to organize “International OSA Network of Students (IONS)” from 07 to 10 September
2016. IONS Dhanbad is being co-hosted by OSA Student Chapters of Indian Institute of
Technology, Kharagpur (IITKgp), India and International School of Photonics (ISP), Cochin.
SPIE student chapter, ISM Dhanbad was the main co-sponsor of the IONS 2016 held in
ISM Dhanbad. Our chapter members were involved in the decision making committees of
IONS 2016. The preparation for this conference was started almost three months earlier. The
goal of IONS is to share on one platform, experiences of distinguished Professors, Scientists,
Research Scholars and students who are carrying out research in various fields of optics. IONS
provide opportunity to share and explore ideas with fellow researchers around the world to
accumulate new research challenges beyond their own fields. The Conference offered plenary
talks by invited speakers, oral and poster presentations by researchers and industry professionals
in various fields of applications of Optics.
