Annual Report of the Crèche Of NJMPK Supported by

“Stichting Bangalore”- 2015-2016

It is with great joy and pride, I pen these few lines of Annual

report . We can say that it is a souvenir of the activities of our crèche Children

,supported by stichting Bangalore. The year of 2015 -16 has been Blessed by God

with many ways. Specially we had the visit of Ans Keus , Jennette along with the

president and office bearers of Rotary Deldon, Netherlands. We are immensely

grateful to them for their visit and assisting us to start the 7th crèche at Murugesh

palayam Bangalore. We the MPK Sisters, Coordinator Mrs. Kannigai, along with

crèche staff, all the crèche children of six crèches come to thank you Dear

Jennete &Ans Keus and all your Trustee members of Stitching Bangalore for your

kind support and encouragement during this Academic year of 2015-2016. Our

hearts are full of Gratitude for the Almighty God, for working marvelously for

caring and bringing up these 252 tiny tots, who would have been wandering in

the street, or closed up rooms of their huts. We honestly acknowledge that it is a

God given opportunity & a privilege to work for these poor and down-trodden

children who are marginalized in the society. It could be only made it possible

with the Generous help from Stitching Bangalore (Jeannette ,ANS Keus and all the

members of Stichting Bangalore.) The letter of information’s, e-mails corrections

financial and moral support, from your part were the real Boost and

encouragements for the growth of these Crèches. We the Society of Franciscan

Servants of Mary, (FSM ) along with our Provincial Superior, Sr. Angela, Burser,-Sr

Suchita join you in thanking for your generous aid.. Our six crèches in Garvepalya,

Mesthripalya, Sudam Nagar (HAL), Neelasandra, Sonnanalli and Nava Jeevan (

Chickka Bellandur ) were functioning well, since we had already planned the

activities well in advance for these children along with teachers and Parents. Also

this year we had the guidance and help from Ans Keus, and Jeannette for its

better functioning.

As we have regular monthly planning and Evaluation with the project

Manager (Sr Elise Mary ) along with the Coordinator and staff the activities of

these crèches are going on smoothly. The collaboration, coordination of the

coordinator, staff, and parents of these children and the hard work of the crèche

staff, and coordinator contributed a lot for the success of these Crèche children.

They were the main person in molding the Character and behavior of these

children.

Time to time we used to bring some good resource persons during parents

and teachers meeting to impart some innovative programmes through Awareness

talks to our women in some selective subjects. Hence we used to have good

fruitful discussions and input sessions for the welfare of these children in the

crèches. Apart from these since our teachers were closely associating with the

mothers of these children, the crèche teachers used give proper guidance and

timely instructions to them for the welfare of their children, family and the

Society.

Always in the beginning of the year when children joined to our crèche they

were crying on the first few days. But as the days pass, months roll we could

observe the changes in children. First of all the cranky and stubborn children learn

to smile, laugh, play, dance eat and sleep together. The malnourished and

underweight children showed much improvement in their health, mental capacity

and in their adjustment with other children as well as with their family members.

The parents notice and tell us that they are finding much change in their children,

i:e change for the better. We really feel encouraged to hear this from the mothers

The cranky children who were refusing to mingle with others, refusing to eat etc

became so cute and early morning they used to ask and pester their parents to

take them to the crèche. So majority of them were reaching the even before 8.30

A.M . The parents of these children were so happy to note that their children

growing in all round development. They used to sing Rhymes, jump, dance, write,

draw, talk and play with the play materials provided for them in the crèches.

There was an atmosphere of freedom for them. We also purchased and gave

them some good play articles. They felt very free with their class teachers, so as

to some were so possessive of their class teachers. In fact, since the parents were

given awareness on life skill Education and formation of character, they used

encourage them to take active part in all the activities that are organized for them

by Nava Jeevan Mahila Pragathi Kendhra.We are also happy to state that, these

parents were so co-operative and few of them took leave from their Domestic

work where they were employed just to help the crèche staff, to assist in cooking

and organizing Women’s Day, Christmas Day , and few other Celebration. Parents

took active part in all the creche these activities. We also felt that they have a

sense of belonging to the crèche. During Parents teachers meeting majority of the

mothers used to express that “this is our crèche”. All our Crèche staff are grateful

for raising their salary specially for working for late hours in the crèche in order to

take care of the Crèche Children as well as their siblings who come after their

school to the crèche till their parents come to fetch them home from the crèche.

Each occasion like this we also remember gratefully the stitchting Bangalore Trust

and since they had seen them during October 2015, Ms. Ans keus and Jennette

are very fresh in their mind. They are very grateful regarding the sacrifice you do

in Netherlands for the welfare of their children. This awareness also makes some

them to contribute their mite, for the crèche. As they are poor people we do not

force them, but we take whatever little few things they contribute during some

occasions like X’Mas celebrations and the women’s Day .

Here below I would like to place before you the Activities of the year 2015 to

2016:

1.Regular Daily Activities of the Crèches:-–

Our regular working hours at our in crèches are from Morning 9 A. M to Evening

3.30P.M. The staff is ready in the Crèches morning at 8.30 A.M onwards. They

clean and keep ready for the class. Since few of our children arrive at 8.30 A.M,

these children are provided playing materials like toys to play in the crèche till 9

A.M. The crèches were regular from June 1st 2015to 20th May 2016. From 21st

onwards they are given 10 days Holidays. This time is being utilized by the

teachers to take the survey of children for the next academic year (i.e. from June

1st onwards.) also to clean the Crèches, White wash them and see to their

repairs, Painting, cleaning of the Crèche Building and the gutters etc.

2. Parents and Teachers Meeting:

Beginning of the year i.e. On the first of June, the mothers brought their children,

to our crèches. During this time we brief them about our time table and also how

to bring up these children with love and care. We also teach them about personal

Hygiene and prevention of Diseases. Every month we conduct Parents Teachers’

Meeting. During this time, the parents share their problems regarding their

family, siblings, financial problems, and problem about the child in the crèche,

illness in the family etc. Sometimes we also invite some resource persons to give

them more awareness when needed. But most of the time this meeting is

conducted by the Director of Nava Jeevan Mahila Pragathi Kendra. Each Mother is

given the time to express about her opinion regarding her child, or any other

points. We also ask their suggestion for future improvements. The Crèche staff

will be informing the child’s parents regarding the improvements, and sometimes

we suggest few points for the improvements of their children. We also discuss

some life skill Education, Family life Education, Women Empowerment and child

care topics to the Mothers during this meeting. They always look forward for this

monthly get together with eager enthusiasm.

3. Medical checkups of children, Polio drops. Vitamin A drops:

Regular Medical check up enabled Children to be healthy. Early diagnosis of the

sickness avoid much problems for the parents. The Parents of these crèche

Children, very often wait for these medical checkups, since the doctor whom we

appoint is a very good, and child friendly one, who takes time for each child and

writes the problem and gives the treatment according to the need of each child.

He also refers the children who require special care and Treatment, to the

government hospital where he works so that he can give them free medicines

that are available in the Government Hospital. Only the few medicines he

prescribe to purchase from outside from the Pharmacy, which are not available in

Government Hospitals. So crèche children benefit a lot from this checkup. Doctors

also are happy to see the gradual improvement in the health condition of

malnourished children, with the good nutritious food which are given to them in

our crèches. Parents also are given awareness about the care as well as the

prevention of illness in children. The teachers take keen interest in the health of

each child. A special attention is given the undernourished children. They too

keep a record of the Immunization of these children and see that all the children

are immunized and also the polio drops are administered to them on time. De-

worming Treatment for children is given to them specially for round worm, Hook

worms ,pin worm etc So the crèche teachers play a great role as prevention of

diseases, bringing up a healthy manner.

4. Christmas celebration - sports- Prize distribution-

During this year we had our Christmas Celebrations with much preparations

in all the six Crèches. We conducted sports in all the six crèches and the winners

will be awarded with prizes on the Christmas celebrations. Apart from this each

child got a Christmas gift with sweets , toy cake and a steel Tiffin box. The parents

who were the winners were awarded with cooking and other steel articles which

were useful for their families.On the 12th of December,15 th December

Sonnehalli, 16th December, Neelasandra, 17th December-Garvepalayam, 18th

December- Mestripalayam and on the 19th December Carmelaram. In each crèche

we invited a sister who was the Chief Guest and gave awareness about the

Christmas Celebration among the people who gathered for the programme. They

also distributed the prizes for the winners of the sports programme.

In fact Christmas is a time when all the parents and children wait eagerly

every year for its Celebrations because this is a season of joy and happiness for

them. Children wait eagerly for their Christmas Gift, specially toys and sweets.

The mothers of these children take part in the competitions, games, sports,

cultural activities, and various types of entertainment .The winners are given

Prizes on the day of Christmas Celebrations. We also give them a good meal

during this time. (Biriyani )They gratefully remember the Donors ( Stichting

Bangalore ) during this event and pray for their welfare. In fact the Parents,

children and the teachers eagerly wait for this celebration since it has lot of joy ,

There is lots of fun and happiness in sharing of gifts, We start in advance the

preparations . The parents and the kids are revived spiritual bond among other

religion. Even though there is lot of work involved in organizing, we can say that it

is worth celebrating this event. Since it is a special day for the children and the

parents and Celebrations’ which foster unity among them. They learn to

organize, and work in a team and show their unity when they conduct such

Celebrations.

5 Domestic workers day- join with Domestic Workers Movement: -

The crèche Children whom we lookafter in our crèche are coming from the poor

and the marginal groups, specially of Domestic workers’ children . Since most of

our Children’s mothers are working as Domestic workers,we encourage and assist

them to join the Domestic Workers’ Movement. These mothers of our crèche

Children are mostly employed in private household work in the apartments of

cities and towns. In collaboration of the domestics existing in that areas a union

is formed and through this the domestic workers are given some benefits of

minimum wage salary, welfare programmes from the government are made

available for them ( old age and widow pension, sick leave, maternity benefits.

etc),health insurance, etc . They are also given protection through the union if any

violence takes place at the working place. A Day has been set apart for these

Domestic workers in a year. This special day which is on 9th Jan all the domestics

join and come on the streets to demonstrate the public and the government of

their strengths, problems and rights. This great Event is celebrated as Domestic

Workers’ Day here in Bangalore and majority of our parents who are also

domestic workers joined them made it a great success. During their get-together

some awareness talks on the rights and duties are being imparted to them by

eminent speakers who come for the programme.

6.Women’s Day Celebration:

To be recognized, esteemed, honored and considered as someone, is one of the

basic desirers of the human heart. Some get it by birth and some achieve it

through personal effort. But the vast majority of people go

unrecognized,marginalized,and rejected. The mothers of our crèche Children

belong to this category. Hence we celebrate every year the International women’s

day during the month of March in all the Crèches. This is an important day for the

women to know and tell everyone that they too are unique and important and

have equal rights in the society. This year 0n the 8th of March we celebrated the

women’s Day in Sudam Nagar crèche. On March 9th we had the celebrations at

Chickkabelldoor ( Carmelaram ). On the 11th of March ,we had the celebrations at

Neelasandra Crèche.On March 14th , we had the women’s day celebratins in our

Sonnehalli crèche.On 16th of March we had our celebrations at Garvepalayam

Crèche and on 18th march we celebrated the Women’s Day at Mestripalam

crèche. Thus in each crèche we celebrate this special event for all the mothers

and also the other women ( our old crèche children’s mothers ) in the locality and

invite a Resource person or a local leader from the place or someone who can

motivate them on their rights. This year too all our six crèche had kept a special

day and celebrated it. Parents and the Self Help Group women had taken the

leadership. They had songs, dances, street plays and programmes from the

mothers as well as children’s too. The women made it a great day by taking

initiative in coming forward to do various activities which made them feel like

little children on the stage. This was the day they specially remember and pray for

all women who sacrifice their life without making known others. The struggles of

women are highlighted during the talk by the resource person. When they were

talking about drunkard husband, wife beatings, financial problems etc few women

burst out crying loudly. After sometimes they shared their struggles with the

groups. Other women were very sympathetic and concerned towards them. Few

of the women gave some suggestions how to overcome the problems of women..

They also remembered Stitcting Bangalore, special ANS keus who is supporting

their children in the crèche, so that they can do their work as Domestic worker,

and earn their livelihood. All the women had a short hour of prayer to pray for the

Donors and, sisters, staff, parents , their sweet children This year they did

mention the great work you all do for them and prayed for you all.

7.Adolesent programmes : -

Every month in different crèches , we conduct Adolescent children programme of

that area. Since we have six crèches in six semi urban area ,we have regular

meetings of these adolescent children. Majority of our old children who have

been passed through our crèche will be attending this programme along with

their classmates. Regularly every month we conduct their meetings. The meetings

are held in our Crèche Buildings. They are given classes on leadership, values

Education for life, value of prayer, importance of Education, how to utilize the

study, Time management, health education (cleanness of self and surrounding),

friendships and the importance present issues that go on in the country and in the

world for which how they need to be prepared and respond (specially political

and natural calamities). All these are made known to them through songs, stories,

play (games), group discussions, few home works, etc.Children are very happy to

take part in this monthly programme for them because it brings them together

and builds up relationship. Parents also feel happy that there is lots of change in

their children compared to the other children of the slums. So we feel it is a

successful service that is done to the children.

8. Teachers Meeting & teachers’ Day Celebration: -

On 5th of September 2015 we had the celebrations of Teacher’s Day in all the six

Crèches .The role of teachers in moulding the mind and the Character of child

whom she cares is remembered by the children and their parents. We give

importance for our crèche teachers, as they are the main persons in the crèche,

The parents just trust them and leave their small Children in their hands. So we

feel that these teachers need to be guided and special trainings according to their

need will be imparted for them with the help of different resource persons. First

of all their emotional capacity is buildup, they are trained to be motherly to the

child and to understand to certain extent the psychology of the child in the

crèche. They are given awareness on the importance of providing all types of

nutrititious food. These Teachers are also trained to conduct training

programmes for the teenagers and youth, as it is the need of the hour. As we

trained them with leadership capacities they handle them successfully .The main

activities of Crèche teachers are, taking care of the children from 9 am to 3pm,

cooking the Balanced Diet for the children, keeping clean the crèche and also the

surrounding, visit the sick children when they are absent for the crèche after

their class hours. They do teach them rhymes, action songs, religious, patriotic

and other songs, alphabets in English and Kannada, storytelling, weekdays and

months, few exercises for the body.

Totally we have 12 teachers and one Coordinator. The coordinator

organizes the work and sees to the needs of the crèches and visits all the crèches

every day. The Project Manager visits the Crèche twice a week and also according

to the need.

9 . Motivation and awareness programmes for the teachers & parents. :

Time to time we need to conduct some motivational awareness programmes for

teachers and parents during this year. The main topics covered during this

awareness programmes’ are Women empowerment, Child care, Personal Hygiene

& environmental Sanitations, Value education, Care during pregnancy ., Women’s

health , prevention of HIV-Aids etc, House Management etc

10. Celebration of National Festivals &Independence Day:

All the national and state festivals are celebrated which make the children know

the importance of the various special days in our country. On this day children are

dressed symbolically to represent the importance of the day and person. This is a

great joy for both parents and children. These Celebrations enhance their

patriotism for the state and the country. Especially on our Independence day

which is on August 15th August .Some of our Children were dressed as Mahatma

Gandiji who was our freedom fighter. We also celebrate other religion festivals

like Deepavali which was celebrated by the Hindus and the Muslim Feast

Moharam etc. These celebrations bring joy unity and oneness in the life of people.

11 Children’s day:-

We conducts Children’s day on the 14 the November in India,i:e the day of

Jawaharlal Nehru’s Birthday. Nehru loved the little Children so much. In order to

keep this memory the children are dressed with different costumes and have

various kind of cultural activities. At the end of the day we distribute sweets for

the children.These are the main activities which had kept the children, parents

and the teachers busy and active during the year 0f 2015 -2015. Every celebration

is day of coming together and sharing the talents each one. This activity fosters

interpersonal relationship between them. This also brings Joy & union between

Parents and teachers. We give important for the celebrations because this makes

the children to know the important days of the nation, states and themselves.

13. Teaching English Classes for the Crèche Teachers:

This year after from the month of November 2015, we started giving English

spoken classes for the teachers. Once a week they are assembled together for

the class. These teachers have shown little improvement in speaking English.

14. Care of the siblings who come to crèche:

In all the crèches, there are at least three to four children who come after their

elementary school to the crèche, to be with the crèche child who is their

brother or sister till their parents come to take them. They will be waiting for

their parents to come and take them home. Since our teachers are occupied

with these children by making them to sit, helping them to do their home

work, or assisting them to play etc . In fact, our parents are at ease and

comfortable, when they are little late to come and take them home. They

really appreciate this time to be with their children which may take for about

30 to 40 minutes per day,

15. Celebration of Birthday of the Crèche Child:-

Each Child is precious, and should be given importance. We also educate the

parents about it and give important for the celebration of each child’s

Birthday. On that day the child has been dressed with clean new clothes. All

children and the teachers gather round him in the beginning of class and

felicitate him with song and clapping etc. We prepare special prayers for the

child and pray for these children on their Birthday. At the end of the

celebrations all the children are given sweets.
