A Listening Silence

“The Liturgy of the Word is to be celebrated in such a way as to promote meditation, and so any sort of haste that hinders recollection must clearly be avoided” (GIRM, art. 56). Liturgy and leisure are related. In a world stressed by noise and haste, the liturgy is a space of silence wherein each thing can be done calmly, deliberately, and with grace.

Brief periods of silence mark the Liturgy of the Word. These periods of silence are to be adapted to the needs and readiness of the assembly. The first of these may occur after the Collect (the Opening Prayer), just before the Liturgy of the Word begins. After the first reading a moment of silence prepares the responsorial Psalm. After the second reading the Alleluia rises out of silence on the wings of song. Lastly, silence follows the homily, allowing the word proclaimed to become a word held in the heart.

In some communities, the introduction of silences will involve unlearning old patterns and entering into a new way of proclaiming, hearing, and praying the Word. The rewards of such an effort will be great. “Blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear” (Matthew 13:16-17).

To have the opportunity to attend a Catholic school is a privilege we are proud to offer at Annunciation of the Lord parish. We are hopeful and excited about the opportunities and challenges before us. To fund the necessary teaching units, ongoing programs, and up-to-date technology used to facilitate competitive education, I invite your support. In order to provide the students, staff, and faculty of St. Ann Catholic School with the best opportunities to succeed, we are asking you to join with us in the St. Ann School Annual Appeal campaign in reaching our goal to raise $80,000 this year. Please prayerfully consider giving a gift to this worthy ministry. There will be opportunities for matching gifts. Every gift given to the school supports our commission to proclaim the good news with joy.

Let’s pull together once again as our parish always has to meet this challenge for the benefit of our children. Whatever amount you choose to give will be a blessing to the school. Your gift to St. Ann Catholic School is tax deductible. Please make all checks payable to St. Ann’s Educational Foundation. Personhood

If you look up the word "person" in your average dictionary, you will find something like this: "Person n. A human being." When Roe v Wade was decided in 1973, the science of fetology was not able to prove, as it can now, that a living, fully human, and unique individual exists at the moment of fertilization and continues to grow through various stages of development until death. However, the majority decision in Roe v Wade made a startling admission: “If this suggestion of personhood is established, the appellant’s case, of course, collapses, for the fetus’ right to life would then be guaranteed specifically by the Amendment.” Justice Harry Blackmun, Roe v. Wade With modern science, it is now straightforward to prove that the unborn child is a human being: "After fertilization has taken place a new human being has come into being. It is no longer a matter of taste or opinion...it is plain experimental evidence. Each individual has a very neat beginning, at conception." Dr. Jerome Lejeune, "Father of Modern Genetics" Within the pro-life movement, there is now an important initiative to include the pre-born as "persons." This terrifies the pro-abortionists because "persons" are protected by a series of God-given rights and constitutional guarantees such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They know that if we clearly define the preborn baby as a "person," they will have the same right to life as all Americans do!

Three Times In Modern History The Word "Person" Has Been Redefined: 1857: The U.S. Supreme Court declares that African Americans are not legal persons. They are the "property" of their owners. 1936: The German Supreme Court, the Reichsgericht, refuses to recognize Jews living in Germany as persons. Genocide becomes legal. 1973: The U.S. Supreme Court rules that the unborn are not persons in the legal sense; they have no civil or human rights. The unborn are the "property" of the mother, who can "choose" to abort them up to the day of delivery. "The word person as used in the 14th Amendment does not include the unborn." Justice Harry Blackmun, Roe v. Wade

Tres Veces En La Historia Moderna La Palabra "Persona" Se Ha Redefinido:

sentido legal; no tienen derechos civiles o humanos.

Wade.

Stewardship

Today St. Mark proclaims the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry. He teaches; He heals; all are amazed. By our baptism we are called to do the same in our lives. Pray for faith and courage to publicly minister in His name by sharing His teaching and by healing our relationships with others.
