Holy Communion, Part I

“May receiving your Body and Blood, Lord Jesus Christ, not bring me to judgment or condemnation, but through your loving mercy let it be my protection in mind and body, and a healing remedy.” Saying quietly this prayer or another one found in the Roman Missal the priest prepares to receive the Body and Blood of Christ. At the same time the faithful prepare for Holy Communion in the silence of their hearts. Lifting the Eucharistic Bread above the chalice, the priest invites the faithful to look upon the Lamb of God and to receive in Holy Communion a foretaste of the “Supper of the Lamb” (Revelation 19:9) made ready for the blessed in heaven. “It is most desirable that the faithful, just as the priest himself is bound to do, receive the Lord’s Body from hosts consecrated at the same Mass and that, in the circumstances when it is permitted, they partake of the chalice” (GIRM, art. 85).

The Communion chant begins while the priest is receiving the Sacrament. Like the Entrance and Offertory chants, it is, according to tradition, an antiphon — often drawn from the gospel of the day — and a psalm chosen to resonate with it.

Mass Confusion???

“We do not tell or impose our will on God; in silence like Mary, we await an Annunciation.”

Venerable Fulton J. Sheen

If your picture was taken for the parish directory, and you have not retrieved your copy of the new directory, you can retrieve your free copy from the parish office until October 31, 2018. After October 31, these copies will be available to other parishioners for purchase.

The Columbarium Committee has scheduled the construction of a second section this Fall.

The Columbarium is for the inurnment of the cremated remains of members and former members (and their immediate families -- spouse and children) of Annunciation of the Lord and St. Ann Church.

The new section will have 110 niches, 77 double niches and 33 single niches, same as the current section. All but one niche has been sold in the current section.

The construction cost is self-funded. We have 70% of the funds now and we expect to raise the remaining 30% in Pre-Sales between now and October 31

st.

Fees for niches will be discounted 14% in this Pre-Sale phase, $1600 for a single niche and $2400 for a double niche. Fees include lifetime maintenance. You may select niche locations.

A committee representative will frequently be available after Masses. For more information, you may also contact Don Adair, committee chair (256-355-7757/[email protected]) or Scott Brown (334-799-1582/[email protected]).

Mrs. Rebecca Wade has started an eighth grade robotics club at Saint Ann School. She has applied for a $2,500 grant to purchase more robots. More robots would mean a bigger robotics club. She wants to be able to include all of middle school. Robotics sets will be used to give a hands-on introduction to programming concepts, encourage creative thinking, problem solving, troubleshooting, reflective learning skills, and generate interest and enthusiasm for technology. Students in the club will write a program to control the LEGO invention. Please vote for her proposal once a day until November 3rd! Tell all your family and friends! Annual St. Ann Golf Tournament Another Huge Success

The 20th Annual St. Ann golf benefit was held October 1

st at Burningtree Country Club. A total of 18

teams and 72 players gathered for a day of great fun, food and fellowship (and a little golf too). As a result of this event, approximately $9500 will be donated to the St. Ann Educational Foundation and

St. Ann School.

Special thanks go out to all those individuals and local businesses who supported the event through their donations, hole sponsorships and golfing. Big thanks also go out to the volunteers who donated their time on tournament day. We could not have pulled this off without your help. Finally, a HUGE thank you goes out to the Knights of Columbus who, for the fifth straight year, organized this event. Because of their efforts and commitment, nearly $50,000 has been raised in these five years. How truly blessed we are to have such a fine group of Catholic men serving our parish and school!

Stewardship

When Jesus asked the rich young man to give away all that he had in order to have treasure in heaven, he was unable to free himself from his possessions, and so he went away with sadness. Does what I own keep me from following Jesus?

SCRIP is a program where our school sells gift cards from many different companies. You purchase them at face value but the company gives the school a percentage back.

It is a Win-Win situation. For just a few minutes of your time after weekend Masses in the Gathering Space or during the week at the Parish Office you can purchase these gift cards and the school makes money to help with their programs. Please consider using SCRIP whenever you can.

Beginning October 1st, Publix Partners scan cards will no

longer be accepted at the store. Publix is switching to a system that requires you to enter your phone number at checkout, which is linked to an account you have created online, where you will have selected St. Ann School as your partner school. Here’s how to make the change:

1. Go to www.publix.com 2. On the top left side of the screen, click “Sign Up”. 3. Enter your name, zip code, phone number, email

address and create a password. 4. Check your email account for an email from Publix

verifying this is the email address you want to use. Click the link in the email and it will take you to their website.

5. You will now enter your password and click “Log In”. 6. Under the heading “My Account” is a tab called “My

Settings.” Click this tab and in the middle column towards the bottom is a box called “My Publix Partner.” Click the words “Select a School”, enter zip code 35603 and then highlight Saint Ann School – Decatur, AL, and click it.

7. Click the “SELECT” button that appears after you have chosen Saint Ann School.

8. LAST THING!! Be sure to enter the phone number you gave Publix when you created your account on the keypad when you check out at Publix. Type your number in before you give them your payment. To date, Publix has given St. Ann School $16,493.33. This quarter we have earned $211.57. THANK YOU for supporting St. Ann School!!!!!

If anyone is worried about getting too much junk mail, there is a box you can unselect to get off their email list and you don’t have to provide your physical address which would eliminate snail mail.
