Welcome to Annunciation Parish
Annunciation Parish Mission Statement:
Strengthened by the Eucharist, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and sent by Christ we seek by worship and service to compassionate-
ly meet the corporal and spiritual needs of our parish family and beyond. We desire to warmly welcome the stranger and one anoth-
er, and together reach a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. In doing this, we are committed to the caring and ongoing Christian
formation of others by providing opportunities for spiritual, intellectual, and social growth within our faith and local community.
For those who are new or returning to the parish, we’d like to welcome you to our Catholic community. In this bulletin
you’ll find many opportunities to be enriched and involved. If you’d like to register as a member or have any questions,
call us at 978-632-0253, email us at [email protected], or stop by the Parish Office during the week.

This weekend Jesus tells us the parable of the weeds in the wheat.
There is a mixture of good and bad in the world (and this has always
been the case). Good and bad intentions, good and bad people, good
and bad situations, etc. Can we notice the weeds among the wheat - can
we see the goodness of the world, look for the goodness in people; no-
tice the potential good in seemingly bad situations. If we do we can
become less stressed, more hopeful, less judgmental, and perhaps more
open to letting the Lord “sort out” the good from the bad. In the para-
ble that is what Jesus tells us - to allow God to take care of sorting it
out, rather than looking for the bad to be upset about in things that we
cannot control anyway.
We are moving some things back to speed. We have had Pastoral
Council meeting and a follow-up meeting of a special committee to
examine our response to the COVID situation. You will be hearing the
results of that meeting and the revised guidelines that we will be putting
in place to adjust to changing conditions. The Council again took up
the issue of Mass times and there is a possibility of some modifications
(thank you to all who gave feedback), however, we needed to get the
input of Council members who were unable to join us for the meeting.
I attended the Inauguration of or city’s new Mayor, and our own
parishioner, Michael Nicholson. We had a special Mass on Friday in
which we gave thanks to God and prayed that He support and guide this
new Mayor as he begins to lead our city. We need to keep reflecting on
the point that civil leadership is not something that is supposed to be
exercised apart from the guidance of God. Our great King allows peo-
ple to hold a portion of that power and rule - not enough realize their
responsibilities to lead as the Lord would lead, and be a faithful repre-
sentative of God in the acts of governing. Let us all pray for continued
guidance and support for Mr. Nicholson.
Some people may be aware, but we had two teachers retire from the
school this year. I am pleased that we were able to find some very solid
replacements and they have accepted the jobs. Unexpected was Mrs.
Tavaska’s decision to retire (after 42 years in Catholic education) leav-
ing us in need of a new principal. The School Board reviewed the
school’s current situation (stable and staying here), and also took up the
issue of selecting a search committee to look for Mrs. Tavaska’s re-
placement. Please pray for her happiness as she retires, and for the
search committee’s work in finding our new principal.
Maura and I met and discussed our use of various formats for Reli-
gious Education and adult Faith Formation. We have begun to expand
beyond existing frameworks, and intend to do more. The continued
preaching of the Gospel and the assisting people to more deeply under-
stand the beauty and reasonableness of our faith is a vital thing that we
must do as a Catholic parish. God provides even in a field that seems
filled with weeds some beautiful flowers. As we move forward let’s
look for these and spread their seeds.
Peace,
Fr. Steve

WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST MEMBER!
Last weekend we welcomed
Isaiah Medina
into our family of Faith through the sacrament of Bap-
tism. Please keep him and his family in your prayers
that they may continue to grow ever closer to God.

There’s a limit to the number of people who can attend
Mass at any given time. It is a percentage of our building
occupancy. For most Masses this will not be a problem
given our church sizes and usual number of parishioners.
• To reduce spread of the virus: Everyone will have to wear
a mask during Mass, hand sanitizer will be offered for use
in church, and we’ll be sanitizing between Masses.
• Paper worship aids will be used instead of missalettes.
• Certain pews in the church will be blocked off and each
family group must be separated from the next by 6 feet.
That is, people living with each other may sit with each
other, but must be distanced from the next group.
• Due to seating constraints you will likely not be able to
get your “usual seat”. Please follow the directions of the
volunteers who will guide seating.
• If the upper church has reached capacity, seating will be
in the hall with a video and sound feed of the Mass. If
you are seated there, communion will be brought to you.
• The processions and collection will be modified to mini-
mize movement through the church.
• The number of doors used to enter the church will be
limited so that we can insure an accurate count and can
help people be seated with the minimum of contact.
• Communion will be offered (under one species - just the
host), further instructions will be given at Mass regarding
how to come up for communion.
• To avoid the spreading of aerosolized (airborne) droplets,
singing will be limited, and windows will be opened to
increase ventilation.
• We’ll have to leave in an orderly manner to maintain
social distancing.

Prayer for Peace
May Christ banish from the souls of men
and women whatever might endanger peace.
May he transform all people into
witnesses of truth, justice and love.
May Christ illumine with his light the minds of rulers,
so that, besides caring for the proper material
welfare of their peoples, they may also
guarantee them the fairest gift of peace.
Finally, may Christ inflame the desires of all people
to break through the barriers which divide them,
to strengthen the bonds of mutual love, to learn
to understand one another, and to pardon
those who have done them wrong.
Through Christ’s power and inspiration may all
people welcome each other to their hearts as
brothers and sisters, and may the peace they long
for ever flower and ever reign among them.
