ANTH 118 - Introduction to Historic Preservation - Fall '08 Home Project #1 - Walkabout Pete Eidenbach 9/2/08 I located the Mies van der Rohe Barcelona Pavilion during an in-world search for foreign cities when I looked for "Barcelona." The Pavilion resides in the air above Takalo (88, 211, 247) in the Snowlands region of the Sansara continent. <slurl.com/secondlife/Takalo/89/212/247> Architect Mies van der Rohe designed the German Pavilion for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition (or Worlds Fair). Its simple form and unusual materials including marble and travertine expressed his credo "Less is more." The Pavilion was constructed in 1928–29, demolished in 1930, and rebuilt in 1986. The floor plan is assymetrical with both transparent and opaque partition walls made from glass and travertine. The low flat roof rests on slim metal supports. Numerous photographs of the rebuilt Pavilion can be seen at <www.bluffton.edu/~sullivanm/spain/barcelona/mies/pavilion.html> The location of the Pavilion in the Takalo sim (left) and a SL photo of the Pavilion.
