Greeting from the President
Dear Patrons and Friends,
There are few events as rousing as a great live performance and little that can dampen the human soul when there is a song in one's heart. That's why, at Aiken Performing Arts, we believe the show must go on! While we mustn't throw caution to the wind, we must learn to cross into the wind to find the tack that that will fill our sails. A good skipper knows the wind is an ally. To prevent losing steerage, he doesn't head straight into the winds, even if that's the direction he desires! Instead, he skillfully zigs and zags, staying outside of the 90 degree "no-go zone" . We've been doing a lot of that type of sailing lately, haven't we? Zigging and zagging, vaxxing and masking, all to keep ourselves in the "go zone".
As we head into our 2021-2022 season, the winds of COVID remain strong, but our spirits are not diminished. From Motown to Broadway and from folk rock to big band, we have a lot of songs to fill your hearts, and a little laughter for your soul, as comedian Jeff Allen joins us in March. In the annals of history, 20-21 will be known as the sea-son we let our sails down, for the wind was a tempest whose direc-tion we did not know. But, that season is behind us now. While only One is master over the storm, there are many who can harness the wind. As a Board, our hope and prayer, for all you who share the love of life, is that you capture our wind this season and find a way to sing and laugh with family and friends. If your canvas is feeling worn and tattered, hop on our catamaran. The sails are fresh and would love to take you for a glide.
Serving with pleasure,
President Aiken Performing Arts
Anthony Ateca

A Loving Tribute ToDIANA ROSS & THE SUPREMES
SUPREME REFLECTIONS
SUPREME REFLECTIONS is a loving tribute to the most famous female singing group of all time, THE SUPREMES! This sparkling trip down Motown’s memory lane is written and directed by Motown producer and creative consultant George Solomon and awardwinning producer/director Michael Chapman with choreography by Paul Holmquist. The Tony Award winning Broadway hit DREAMGIRLS, which was loosely based on The Supremes, went on to become an Oscar winning film. Whereas DREAMGIRLS presented new music, we present the original, familiar classic hits and the true story of the actual SUPREMES. Baby Love, Stop! In The Name Of Love, You Can't Hurry Love, Love Child... You'll love, love, love this stylish, fun and informative musical gem!
You may remember where you were when you first heard, Where Did Our Love Go, Come See About Me, Someday We’ll Be Together or Ain’t No Mountain High Enough. Artists who have followed in their footsteps like The Pointer Sisters, Whitney Houston, Vanessa Williams and some of today’s superstars like Beyoncé and the Pussycat Dolls have been influenced by Diana Ross and The Supremes. You’ll see why Oprah Winfrey credits The Supremes as her inspiration and why the Guinness Book Of World Records has declared Diana Ross the most popular female vocalist of all time!
16
The ladies who star in SUPREME REFLECTIONS are Wendy Edmead, Tai Lewis and Marianne Lewis. These multi-talented entertainers have each performed in scores of musicals and television shows. They are young but possess the dynamic qualities of the classic entertainers from another generation. Most importantly, their interpretation of The Supremes vocals are so true to the original recordings that it must be pointed out that they are singing live and not lip-syncing. The show is hosted and narrated by Motown producer George Solomon who also performs some of the hits of Motown stars Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder and more.
It’s hard to believe that these songs are forty to fifty years old, yet they sound as fresh and irresistible today as they did then. It’s impossible not to feel young when you hear the toe-tapping rhythm of the Motown Sound and the catchy melodies you’ll still be humming when you leave the show. The show is informative as well as hilarious as it’s filled with humorous anecdotes from The Supremes stellar career.
It doesn’t just stop with the music... the show has costumes that even Cher would envy! Many forget that it was Diana Ross and The Supremes that first brought famed costume designer Bob Mackie to prominence.
