Anti UV treatment of textiles
Prepared by Rajib Chandra Gosh
The electromagnetic spectrum
Why UV protection’s necessary
Ultraviolet protection factor
Classification UPF Approximate % UV blocked
Good UV protection 15-24 93.3%-95.8%
Very good UV protection 25-39 96%-97.4%
Excellent UV protection 40-50 97.5%-98%
Textile’s UV protection performance is determined by ultraviolet protection factor
Fabric performance according to UPF
• Cotton / polyester has higher UPF• Woven fabrics has higher UPF than knitted
fabrics• Cotton / polyester blended fabrics has higher
UPF
Factors of UV protection
Methods of UV protection in textiles
1. Nano finishes2. UV absorbers3. Colors
Nano finishes
Procedure for Nano finishes
Pretreatment
Dyeing
After treatment
In after treatment nano finishes at 100° c for 2.5 hrs
UV absorbers
By using gamma radiation to develop UV protection factor into textiles
Procedure of UV absorber
• At first cut the cotton fabrics into small 50*50cm
• Then it is washed by 5gm/l soap at 90c for 20 min
• Then applied Nano particles zno into both sides of fabrics
• Then again washed by soap 4gm/l and dried horizontally .
Colors performance
• Black ,navy, deep red resists UV a little .• Direct, reactive and vat dyes has UV
protection properties• Optical brightening agents enhances
brightness by UV emission and excitement
