The Picasso Museum - Château GrimaldiIn 1946, at the proposal of the prestigious Château Grimaldi’s custodian, Pablo Picasso accepted the offer to set up his studio in one of the castle’s rooms. He painted there for six months, leaving the museum with almost all of his creations during that time. This gave rise to the first museum dedicated to the artist in his lifetime, with the only condition being that none of the works were ever to leave the premises. One of the rooms in the Château Grimaldi is dedicated to Nicolas de Staël. Numerous contemporary works from Léger, Atlan, Magnelli, Ernst, Picabia, Modigliani, Pagès and Hans Hartung were added to enhance the museum’s collection.

An entire prestigious past resurrected. Ceramics, amphora, mosaics, coins and objects of everyday life bear witness to the extraordinary prosperity of the powerful Roman «Civitas Antipolitana».

Starting in 1995, the artist allowed the museum to be opened up to other artists, regularly receiving the travelling exhibitions of prestigious signatures including Daumier, Plantu, Dubout, Blachon, Moisan, Faizant, Ricord, Mordillo, Piem and Kristian, amongst others.
