Service Information Dyne Fire Protection Labs is an independent compliance testing laboratory which has provided the fire and safety industry with testing services since 1999. Our mission is two-fold – to provide quality, accurate and precise test results and to do so using a system that makes testing easy for our customers. Remove the liability of field testing errors by allowing a certified independent laboratory to test your antifreeze solutions. Field refractometers can work for field testing but only if you are absolutely sure of the type of antifreeze chemical that has been added to the system. Each listed antifreeze solution has specific refractometers calibrated for them. If an improper refractometer is used, accurate and precise results cannot be obtained. Our laboratory testing provides a full range of tests including verifying a maximum freeze point of the solution so you can be assured the system will operate at low temperatures. Our goal at Dyne is to provide you with a worry-free system for meeting your antifreeze solution testing requirements. Our system includes: Free test kits and shipping for standard NFPA 25 testing via UPS ground and USPS within the lower 48 continental United States A freeze-point measurement in ºF and ºC Results guaranteed in 5-business days 1-business day expedited turn around available upon request - please call for pricing Technical experts to answer your antifreeze solution questions Results archived and available via a phone call, email or through our secure website Laminated tags to attach to your system stating type of antifreeze solution, % concentration, and date tested Free reminder via mail or email when it is time to test again Our laboratory uses industry standards to test your antifreeze solution to make sure it will perform effectively in a fire situation. We will test your antifreeze solution in accordance with NFPA 25- Standard for the Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems. Dyne Fire Protection Labs is certified by the International Standards Organization ISO 9001 Standards for Quality Management System. Antifreeze Solution Testing ServicesSection 5.3.4 of NFPA 25 2020 states “The specific gravity of each solution shall be checked using a hydrometer with a suitable scale or a refractometer having a scale calibrated for the antifreeze solution.” Dyne Fire Protection Labs employs ISO9001 standards that produce accurate and precise measurements to ensure the type of antifreeze solution, freeze point (ºF and ºC) and an estimate of concentration (% by weight and % by volume).

Analyzed for color, apparent thickness, and any sediment, rust or particulates.

Provides an indication of the concentration of listed antifreeze solutions described in NFPA 25.

Provides an indication of the concentration of listed antifreeze solutions described in NFPA 25.

Indicates the degree of degradation of the solution and its likelihood to degrade the piping.

A calculated value based upon the refractive index and density of a sample. This value will be reported as percent by weight and percent by volume. Note: it is important to distinguish between the % by volume and % by weight as they can be different and affect the freeze point.

A calculated value based upon the percent concentration. This value is determined by chemical studies with specific types of antifreeze. Values will be reported in degrees Fahrenheit and Celsius.

This test verifies that the solution will not freeze at the estimated freeze point in ºF and ºC.

The overall result will be determined with a clear recommendation for continued use or replacement.

When the antifreeze type is not known, Dyne can help verify if the solution contains propylene glycol or glycerine but contamination, extreme dilution, and mixing of antifreeze types can make accurate determination difficult in some cases. Samples that cannot reliably be determined to be one of the accepted antifreeze solutions will need to be replaced. Dyne will be unable to estimate the percent concentration (% by weight and % by volume) and freeze point (ºF/ºC) of unknown samples.
