FROM THE PRINCIPAL Welcome Back Welcome back to everyone for term 3. It has been great to hear all the wonderful holiday stories from the children. Term 3 is always very busy and this year is no exception. Students and teachers are preparing for the Athletics, Cross Country, Assemblies, Spelling Bees, Book Week, Eagles Cup and Numero to name quite a few! Eagles Cup Well done to the Year 5 and 6 students who participated in the Eagles Cup match on Monday afternoon against Allendale PS. It was great to see our children out there having a go in a very close match. Allendale came away with the win but Mount Tarcoola fought hard right to the end. Another home game next week and everyone is welcome to come along and watch, 3.30 pm at Tarcoola Park. Spelling Bee Good luck to all the Year 3 to 6 children today who are participating in the Mount Tarcoola Spelling Bee. We have quite a few children who are participating in our Spelling Bee which is great to see. The winners from this event will represent Mount Tarcoola at the Midwest Spelling Bee, 9th August. Woolworths This year the Mount Tarcoola school community contributed just over 47 000 earn and learn stickers. We have redeemed these and have been able to order a group teaching desk for the Pre Primary, 7 Blue Bots (interactive coding robots), small magnetic whiteboards and other small sundry items. This is a fantastic result and the resources will be well used for years to come. Many thanks to the community for their support and to Woolworths for this fantastic program. School Council Training On Monday the 12th of August Nicci Godsman the Coordinator of Regional Services will be presenting a professional learning session on School Council’s. This is a great opportunity for parents to come along and get an informed idea of what is involved with School Councils and what it means to be on one. The PL is perfect for parents who are considering nominating for our council and are wanting to know a little more about the whole thing. More information will be coming home soon. School Council training was one of the recommendations from our Public School Review in term 1 of this year. School Banking School banking is happening this term with the Bendigo Bank ladies here tomorrow (Wednesday 31st), then on Wednesday 7th of August and then every second Wednesday after that. Reverse Parking Obviously children’s safety is taken very seriously at our school. A reminder to all parents and caregivers that the Pre-Primary and Northern end carparks are all designated as reverse parking. This ensures that when parents leave they are driving forward and not reversing into other cars or children. Even the staff must reverse park in the staff car park.

P&C NEWS All students from Kindy to Year 6 will be invited to enjoy music and games at our next disco in Term 4. Students have enjoyed these P&C run events—keep an eye out for announcements of dates in the newsletters. Term 3 will be busy with school run athletic events and the P&C will conduct the ever popular fundraiser, the Year 1—6 Lapathon on Friday 1 6th August between 1 :30 & 2:50pm. Notes and sponsor sheets were sent home via students on Monday 29th July. Students can come dressed up as their favourite sports star or wear crazy hair. This is a great opportunity to get in some steps in the sun and raise money too! All parents/carers are most welcome to come along to the event and walk some laps. Mr Ian Blayney has again generously offered a Giant bicycle which will be first prize in a one day raffle. 2019 will be a time of transitioning the uniform supply to Total Uniforms, with all sales being conducted by them from January 2020. They have a store in Geraldton and have confirmed they will be able to stock our current items year round. This will give families the option of purchasing fewer items at times that are convenient for them. Please be aware that as this time approaches stock at the school will be increasingly limited. The 2nd hand uniform shop has been very popular and the P&C will continue to operate it as a service to our families. We are always happy to receive donations of uniforms, please deliver them to the canteen. As always, we would like to see new faces at P&C meetings. We meet on Monday evenings in Weeks 3 and 8 each term—next meeting Monday 5th August @ 7:00pm in staffroom. Meetings run for about an hour and are a great way to contribute to Mount Tarcoola Primary School.

2020 KINDY to YEAR 6 ENROLMENT APPLICATIONS — NEW TO SCHOOL ONLY Applications for enrolment for children NEW to Mt Tarcoola PS entering Kindergarten to Year 6 in the 2020 school year are open, closing date Friday 2nd August, 2019. Application Forms are available from the school office.

If you are on a Visa, a copy of visa documentation and passport is required at time of application.
Students currently attending our Kindergarten Program are not required to re-apply for Pre-primary unless they are living outside our local intake area.
Parents/persons responsible are encouraged to submit their application ASAP as we are endeavouring to finalise enrolments for Kindy 2020.
Vandalism Unfortunately, the school is still being targeted by vandals’ afterschool and on weekends. This has meant an increase in the security measures across the school. In the near future all gates and access points will be locked after school hours. This is very sad as it means that access for children wanting to play basketball and on the oval is now not condoned at all. The damage has been caused both during the day and at night so just being on school grounds at any time could be an issue. Even for those who are just playing on the courts. CCTV footage has been supplied to police who are following up leads to apprehend suspects from the recent damage. Parents, please do not allow your children to play on grounds after school hours. Additionally, the northern end gates will soon be locked during the school day. Parent access during the school day will need to be along Forden St and the Pre Primary carpark. Paul Luxton Principal
