The Competition Announcement is shown to the Jury, after which it was ascertained that the provisions laid down by articles 4, 5 and 6 were in compliance. In the days before the meeting of the Jury, the Prize Technical Secretariat had checked that the submitted projects complied with the provisions of the Competition Regulations, all

works presenting inconsistencies have been detected (works subject to disqualification) and some others have been reassigned to the correct category. The Jury decides to verify during the assessment of the projects, the proposals of the

Technical Secretariat.

The codes and the motivations of the excluded works and of those with reassigned

category are listed in Annex 1.

The Jury was thus charged with assigning the Prize and Mentions in compliance with

article 10 of the Competition Regulations

The method of evaluating the submitted projects was then defined. To allow a correct comparative and evaluative judgment from the Jury a computerized

display system was set up. a system has been predisposed

Each project consisted of three tables describing the project according to what anticipated to the art. 6 of the announcement, in function of the category of affiliation: These tables will be projected on three screens so that they were visible to all Jury Members. Each Jury Member had a personal computer whose integrated software permitted the display of the data regarding the projects accepted for the competition (Tables 1 and 2). On the basis of these boards, each Jury Member expressed his rating from 0 to 100. The overall assessment of each work was then expressed as an arithmetical average to three decimal places (thousandth) of the individual ratings given by each Juror.

The Jury approved the Electronic Rating System proposed. At the conclusion of the first day of evaluation (at 19.00 p.m. on 18th July 2019) all projects had been evaluated and placed in two session and n. 40 projects (40 international and 09 regional) had been selected.

At the end of the procedure the Jury resolved as follows:

INTERNATIONAL SECTION 1st Prize

The project denoted by code n. IYA.18228599

Title of the work: Federal School Aspern

Office Fasch&Fuchs. architekten Place: Austria, Vienna

Motivation of the Jury:

The school is located within an urban sprawl district in the north-east of Vienna and represents an important element in creating the identity of the new neighborhood.

The building, positioned on the perimeter of the available lot, closes on three sides to open internally towards the park which becomes an integral part of the architecture; the lateral elements of the stairs, the transparency of the interior elevation, the system of terraces and roofs accentuate and enhance this continuity between the open space and the built one.

The project transposes in a coherent and functional way the needs dictated by the program which included the creation of an organized school on new educational concepts and open learning methods based on the relationships between several classes.

The arrangement and overlap of the levels, the permeability of the interior spaces, the continuity between public spaces, teaching spaces and the garden give the building an inclusive and welcoming character.

Honourable Mention

The project denoted by code n. FBE17451036

Title of the work: Botanical Garden art Biotop water garden

Office: Junya.ishigami + Associates Place: Japan, Tochigi Motivation of the Jury:

With the Botanic Garden Art project, the Japanese architect Junya Ishigami proposes his own vision of architecture and landscape that sees natural elements - trees, vegetation, water - becoming the main building materials of his project.

A spectacular result, able to build a free space, to be crossed and live poetically, in the shade of the trees among mosses, stones and water.

The masterful composition of the horizontal elements of the soil are composed with the verticality of the shafts of the trees and with the roof of the fronds, to form a suggestive atmosphere of "internal" space, even if outdoors. The architect uses plant materials in a tectonic manner, creating a "natural landscape built" of rare beauty and intensity.

Honourable Mention

The project denoted by code n. ECO.18909285

Title of the work: Brick Cave Office H&P Architects Place: Vietnam, Hanoi

Motivation of the Jury:

The building is located in a suburban municipality of Hanoi - which has undergone rapid urbanization - perfectly fitting into an inhomogeneous urban context, without isolating itself, but defining a protected area of the highest quality.

The external envelope and the internal volume create an intermediate space made up of plays of light and shadows, where the vegetation also grows, forming an intimate

environment that, despite being in the middle of the urban fabric, creates a world of its own.

The two outer layers, integrated together, work as a filter to eliminate the negative aspects of the surrounding environment and bring nature inside, defining small family and domestic spaces, suitable for being used differently at different times of day adapting to the needs of the tropical monsoon climate of northern Vietnam

Honourable Mention

The project denoted by code n. CCE12082343

Title of the work: Bergkapelle Wirmboden

Office: Innauer Matt Architekten–

Place: Austria, Schnepfau

Motivation of the Jury: A place of spirituality is not just a space, it is also a ritual, a relationship with the context and with people. In this sense, this chapel has transformed a small lawn into a place for meeting, commemorating and reflecting; thus becoming a symbolic place of the very identity of the Wirmboden community that conceived and built it.

The small building manages to relate to the immensity of the surrounding landscape, while its simple and humble interior defines a space characterized by an ethereal and contemplative atmosphere. The use of construction techniques and local materials contribute greatly to integration with the context.

REGIONAL SECTION 1st Prize

The project denoted by code n. ZRY.11173826

Title of the work: Cavea Arcari

Office David Chipperfield Architects Place: Zovencedo (VI

Motivation of the Jury:

Cava Arcari is a quarry in a tunnel with horizontal development located in the area of the Berici Hills in the province of Vicenza.

The very space of the cave is, in its original form, the fascinating result of man's work and, in this sense, it is already architecture.

The project is born of emptiness and with small interventions generates a multi-functional space that emphasizes the charm and characteristics of the place by defining, in a poetic dimension, a new relationship between man and nature.

The redesign of the ground through simple additions made of podiums and stone tiers, in contrast with the clear cut line of the ceiling, manages to create a powerful effect that brings to mind the intensity of the spaces of classical theaters.

Only two materials are used: Vicenza's Pietra Bianca and the water mirror that reflects the artificial lights - expertly organized - on the walls and ceiling carved by the cuts in the rock.

Honourable Mention

The project denoted by code n. EHU.11214276

Title of the work: Nuovo Polo Umanistico dell’Università di Padova

Office: Proger s.p.a., Pooleng s.r.l., Manens Tifs s.p.a., Paolo Portoghesi Architetto

Place: Padova

Motivation of the Jury:

The new humanistic center of the University of Padua is part of the area in the former geriatric hospital in a manner that respects the context of which it enhances the

architectural emergencies and open spaces of the courtyards redefining a new system of relations between the building complex and the city.

The complex functional project that includes libraries, classrooms and departments offices is declined thanks to a careful recovery operation of the nineteenth-century architecture and the demolition of the incongruous parts. Finally, the insertion of the new volumes allows us to redefine the relationships between full and empty spaces, creating permeable spaces for the surrounding urban fabric.

Honourable Mention

The project denoted by code n. ZUY.13477786

Title of the work: Final Outcome – AMAA Workshop

Office: AMAA collaborative architecture office for research and development Place: Arzignano (VI)

Motivation of the Jury:

Within a broader regeneration intervention of a former industrial area, the small volume project for offices that houses the AMAA headquarters represents a good example of reuse of an existing building through the insertion of a new building inside it. completely independent volume.

Through the transparency of the perimeter glass surfaces the building creates relationships with the geometries of the existing envelope to which also refers the use of materials that recall the industrial tradition.

At 17.00 on 19 July 2019 the Jury finishes its work.
