“Blessed Assurance” 1
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
2
Perfect submission, perfect delight!
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
3
Perfect submission all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

“Gideon’s Call”
Lesson: Judges 6:11-18 GOLDEN TEXT:
“The angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The
Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.” — Judges 6:12
TODAY’S AIM:
“To observe the basic ingredients of the need, the call, and God’s provi-sion for the task.”
INTRODUCING THE LESSON:
As Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 1:26, “For ye see your calling, brethern,
how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many
noble, are called.” As we look around in our church, we may not see very
many wise, mighty, or noble people. We may not see very many impor-
tant or accomplished people. The truth is that God often calls common,
ordinary people. He is not interested in using proud people who will take
credit for what He does for His people. He often sends His call to humble,
faithful people who will serve Him and meet the need of the hour.
PRACTICAL POINTS:
1. God will reveal Himself to us in the midst of hardship (Judges 6:11-
12).
2. Even when it seems that God has forsaken us, He has a plan for
deliverance (Judges 6:13-14).
3. When we are sent by God, we can go with confidence.
4. God’s will is not limited by our financial status or social class
(Judges 6:15).
5. God will reassure us that He is with us (Judges 6:16-17).
6. God is long-suffering and will allow us to prepare for duty in His
service (Judges 6:18).
CONCLUDING THE LESSON:
We are all familiar with the problems some people have caused while
claiming, “God told me to do it.” There are “calls” from God that some
have dreamed up themselves. That does not detract from the fact that God
still calls some of us to specific tasks, though these tasks may not involve
addressing some huge circumstance, such as defeating a powerful enemy.
All calls involve simple faith and obedience to the Lord. If we want to
“put ourselves in the way of blessing,” we must practice trusting God
in the small things that are right at hand. We must forsake our sin and
selfishness and bring every thought captive “to the obedience of
Christ” (2 Corinthian 10:5). Gideon believed God reluctantly and moved
forward very hesitantly, yet God blessed him in his response to the call. It
did not matter what Gideon thought at first, just that he was obedient to
the call of God and judged Israel for many years.
