YONTZ VALOR FOUNDATION ANNUAL MEETING – 2018 3

YONTZ VALOR FOUNDATION EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

FOUNDATION GUIDING PRINCIPLESIn 2014, the YVF Guiding Principles were written and established by Terri Yontz Miller and Kenneth Yontz. These include our mission statement, our overarching umbrella, the key areas of support within, and our process by which we evaluate and filter donation requests. We each created vision statements as to our objectives and goals for the YVF. All of the above information can all be found on our web site: yontzvalorfoundation.org.

These guiding principles are used to evaluate every donation request and referenced as we gauge performance of organizations we have supported. These principles must be reflected and understood by each and every person that works with YVF or any organization who is a donation recipient.

FOUNDER’S VISION“The freedoms we enjoy in this great country are, understandably, taken for granted by many Americans due to the fact that we never had to face a foreign invader on our shores since our country was founded. This country’s commitment to our military along with the men and women who voluntarily serve to protect us, are the reasons we feel so safe in our homeland.

We owe these individuals a debt that we could never repay, particularly those who return wounded, disabled, and, the many who never return.

The Yontz Valor Foundation was therefore founded to primarily assist those returning veterans who were wounded in battle, their families and the families of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.”

Kenneth F. Yontz - Founder

PRESIDENT’S VISION

“I believe so strongly in Yontz Valor Foundation. It is grounded in the ultimate belief that Freedom is not Free and that many have given their all to ensure our freedoms. With two teenage boys, my dream is that they and the younger generations truly understand what has been sacrificed and what is at stake. There are no greater heroes than the men and women of our military. Through Yontz Valor Foundation – we intend to honor that by giving them and their families the help and support they so richly deserve. We can NEVER give enough, but at our core we will strive to fund many meaningful and impactful programs that directly benefit our military heroes in the best way possible.

My commitment to honor my Father’s vision is unwavering, as in my heart there is no other group of people who deserve our deepest gratitude more.”

Terri Yontz Miller - President/Trustee

YONTZ VALOR GUIDING PRINCIPLES

OUR MISSIONThe Yontz Valor Foundation will both directly and through other like minded organizations, provide funds to help the wounded men and women of our military reestablish all aspects of their life when they return from active duty and for those who tragically do not return, support their families.

OUR PROCESS & FILTERRequest for funds will be filtered through consistent guidelines. We will evaluate the organizations mission, track record and administrative costs to insure that the vast majority of funds reach the stated objective of the organizations. Overall, the YONTZ VALOR FOUNDATION will look to funding organizations that provide both immediate as well as long-term structural support.

KEY AREAS OF SUPPORTThe over arching umbrella is focused on our military heroes who have been injured in the line of duty. Understanding that assistance can take many forms, our key areas of focus are:

• Medical (Treatment/Support/Therapy)

• Family Core (Functionality/Stability/Re-engagement)

• Experiential (Lifestyle/Activities/Socialization)

TRUSTEE BIOS & VISION

JAY GARSTECKI – TRUSTEE

Jay (Jason) Garstecki is a businessman, professional fisherman and outdoor enthusiast. In 2011, Jay co-founded the non-profit organization – Take A Vet Fishing – “A Day of Giving Back”. This non-profit was created to raise awareness and provide treatment of Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) in our returning Veterans. In 2015, Jay co-founded a television show called “Operation Fishing Freedom – “The Voice of a Hero”. This TV show documents the lives our nation’s greatest assets – our active duty US Military Personnel and US Military Veterans from across the country. Each episode tells the story of our Heroes lives – through their eyes – and documents it for future generations. Jay is a professional fisherman who fishes multiple tournaments ever year to spread the word about his passion for our Veterans. Finally, Jay is a businessman with over 21 years in marketing and print manufacturing with a company in Morton Grove, Il. – Quantum Group.

“I don’t think we could possibly ever do enough for the men and women who sacrifice their lives every day for our freedom. All gave some – some gave all – in order for us to enjoy the freedoms that too many Americans take for granted every day. We have an obligation to HONOR our US Military personnel and WELCOME THEM HOME. We need to continue to provide assistance during the “re-integration” process that these men and women must face after deployment. Finally, we need to educate our younger generations on the sacrifices that have been made for our freedoms. The Yontz Valor Foundation has provided financial support to countless organizations – which has enabled Veterans to seek the help they deserve.”

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Leading the Yontz Valor Foundation, I am moved by the actions of those organizations receiving our donations and their expressions of gratitude. I chose to write about a few of these so that you can feel the emotions of those that the YVF has touched and see firsthand how my Father’s legacy is coming to life.

Terri Yontz Miller - President/Trustee

WAVE ACADEMY waveacademy.org

“As we set out to make a difference with YVF, it was critically important that we give money to organizations who assure us that the real men on women of our military will directly benefit. I am learning every day the different therapies that truly can make a difference in our Veteran’s lives going one way or unfortunately the other. So many talented therapists at Wave Academy posses the power of healing and bringing peace. Nothing is more compelling than receiving these personal notes from soldiers whose lives we have touched and whose souls we have hopefully started to help heal so their lives can move forward.”

HENDRICKSON FOUNDATION hendricksonfoundation.com

“For those of us not in the military - we can never know the hardships of returning to civilian life. The things we do on a daily basis, well, are just a lot more difficult. Socialization and the feeing of belonging again becomes a challenge to many, That’s why foundation such as Hendrickson Foundation who focus on bring our Veterans together via Warriors Hockey is so important. As a second year donor we hare watching our heroes come to life on the ice, feeling part of regular life again and meeting emotional and physical challenges head-on. In honor of my Dad, this years Championship Trophy will bear the YVF logo and be presented to the winning team - though seeing this in action - they are all winners.”

In regard to your memorial donation

in honor of your father, I’d like to run

something past you. We have an area at

camp which I would like to highlight as a

‘resting’ place which people can use to take

a breath, settle their emotions and just be

calm. My idea is to use your memorial to

create a centerpiece of this area. Because our

main mission is to heal the hearts of all

who come to Camp Hometown Heroes,

I’d like to have a large iron heart shape.

I would also like to include a plaque noting

that the sculpture is in your dad’s honor.

Also, the picture of your father is lovely.

I wish I’d gotten the opportunity to

meet him.

CAMP HOMETOWN HEROES hometownheroes.org

“The selfless sacrifices that our Veterans make for our country can never be mea-sured - they are priceless. Those who pay the ultimate sacrifice are hailed as heroes - but left in the wake are the families that are left behind. Especially gut wrenching is the pain and sorrow buried in a child’s heart after loosing their Mother or Father in active duty or other issues like PTSD. Helping a child to heal so that their life can move forward is something that Camp Hometown Heroes brings to those broken hearts. Having been a supporter over the last three years, I had tears when I received a special letter from Deb Paschke, Executive Director of Camp Hometown Heroes. My Dad would be so proud as nothing was more precious to him than the innocence of children”

AMERICAN LEGION POST #1776 www.post1776.com

“One might imagine that after an individual serves their country - their focus might turn away from that and focus strictly on civilian life. Not true of so many of our patriotic men and woman of our military. I was speaking at a Tee it Up for the Troops event on September 11th of this year and I met many special Veterans. One in particular stood out - a WWII Veteran representing the Color Guard of the American Legion post #1776. What moved me is how hard he worked to volunteer all these years later - far past when duty called, It’s not because he had to - it was in his heart to honor his fellow comrades as they passed on to their final resting place. I received a 4 page handwritten letter from him telling me how much it meant that someone like my Father would choose to leave such a legacy, even though he himself did not serve in our military. He loved my speech and the story of my Dad’s compassion and giving spirit and his vision for YVF. So much so, he enclosed a handful of stamps from his collection from when he served as a token of his gratitude. I was blown away! First no one writes letters anymore and the emotion in the letter was so incredible. We did go on to aid Post #1776 at the American Legion so that their equipment was repaired and properly stored for all the funerals where they would volunteer their time. This letter represents so much to me and I will keep it in my heart. This Veteran’s name was Mendal Mearkle and I can assure you - he and my Dad would have talked for hours.”

TAKE A VET FISHING takeavetfishing.org

“The very first organization YVF supported was Take a Vet Fishing. I was intro-duced to this organization by the CEO of Great Clips as she believed in everything they stood for and most importantly - they took action and made things happen. Fishing? Who knew how a pastime many take for granted could be such a pow-erful unifying and healing program for our Veteran’s. I surely did not - until I met the founder Jay Garstecki. His passion, vision and unwavering commitment left a mark. In fact, in 2015 my Dad attended the TAVF event at Lake Minnetonka with me. I will never forget that day for many reasons. First, my Dad was blown away not only by the event, but his connection with Jay was immediate and unwav-ering. He saw what I saw in him. In fact as we were leaving he said Terri, that “Jay is something special...and this is exactly the type of organization I want to support.” He could see the direct impact of our donation with the 200 Veterans in attendance. He was truly moved by what he saw and could begin to imagine what YVF could really accomplish.

Our plans to attend together in 2016 fell short as my Dad battled for his life. I will never forget Jay leading the Veterans in prayer for my Dad as they all stood with bowed heads as they remembered his presence and generosity the previous year. In 2017 Jay and his board voted to rename the event in Lake Minnetonka the Ken Yontz Take a Vet Fishing Event. I spoke from the heart about my Dad and my 16 year old son Wyatt spoke of his Grandfather and his love for him. We were presented with a special flag from a fallen soldier bearing an engraved plaque in memory of my Father. I felt my Dad with us that day just as how we felt with Jay and Take a Vet Fishing in 2014. We had come full circle. As I looked out at my Dad’s memorial service and saw Jay’s face, I know that we would carry my Dad forward through Yontz Valor Foundation.”

YONTZ VALOR FOUNDATION ANNUAL MEETING – 2018 13

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

In each year’s report, I will choose several special stories and share my perspective with you as they demonstrate the vision, passion and most importantly the giving soul that was indeed my Father.

Terri
