From Father Phil
My dear parishioners,
I t was wonderful to witness so much excitement at the Spanish Mass, which focused on the Divine Mercy as well as all the Masses that weekend. In the Spanish Mass, Father Dávila from
Venezuela expressed his solidarity with many other citizens of that country who are experiencing severe medical hardship, an extreme shortage of food and essential items for living that we take for granted. Living with frequent electric blackouts makes life precarious, especially for the very young and the elderly. I want to thank all those who brought essential aid for the benefit of a nation in crisis. What we do and what we hear at our Masses, hopefully, find a home in our hearts and activities and that we realize that the good news we hear is not only for our own salvation but also leads us to challenge injustice abroad and within our own country. The challenge of the Easter season is to deepen our mission within ourselves. What can we do in response to a love that is much more powerful than death? Hopefully, it gives us the courage to work with the various groups that make up our city and our coun-try, as well as other countries, other faiths, or with those who do not follow any faith, and also with those who feel excluded from our churches. We have a challenge, my friends. As we prepare to return to a re-newed sanctuary, I hope that our hearts, like Peter's in today's gospel, experience divine love and that we, in turn, can help bring new and renewed life to our brothers and sisters wherever they are, and who may be facing persecution, rejection, and death. The filmmaker and writer, Dennis Potter in his play, ‘Seeing the Blos-som’, said: "Religion for me has always been the wound, not the bandage." Together, with the grace of a Wounded Risen Jesus, we may endeavor with all the goodness, courage, and grace that we have to be the bandage for those in need. With every Easter blessing, Fr. Phil Lloyd Pastor
