The Legion of Mary is pleased to sponsor an eight-part video scripture-based study program entitled, Mary’s Battle for You, which presents a gripping account of the life of Mary, from the dawn of time and her life in the scriptures to her role in the early Church and her most well-known apparitions.

Throughout the program, we see the many times she has battled and conquered the Devil, freeing her children from his captivity. In these times of peril, let us be guided by the Blessed Mother for strength, wisdom, and peace.

Designed for small group discussions, the program will be offered each Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the Emmaus Center, with the first session beginning Friday, September 8th. Bring your Bible.

For more information/to register, contact Mary Jane Abplanalp, [email protected] or (609) 257-3389.

From the Desk of Father Dan:

Thank you very much to every parishioner who has participated in the “Our Faith. Our Family. Our Future.” capital and building campaign. To date, $3,276,430 has been pledged, which is 110 percent of our $3,000,000 goal! Again, thanks!!

At the present time, the following are actual or estimated amounts on how the gifts will be used:

Supporting the Diocesan Faith to Move Mountains Endowment campaign at $1,263,500

Renovating the parish offices and increasing meeting rooms, estimated at $571,000

Upgrading the 60-year-old HVAC systems in the church and rectory, estimated at $258,160

Adding a Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, estimated at $42,680

Supporting Catholic Education, estimated at $900,000

Leaving a balance of $241,590 to cover unpaid pledges and cost overrides

As you know, the consultative bodies (parish finance council, parish pastoral council, school board and 75th anniversary council) have supported this project since its inception. In addition, I have formed a parish building council comprised of parishioners who are construction, engineering, and HVAC professionals to assist me. I have also interviewed three architects and have decided Patock Construction Company best suits St. Mary of the Lakes to proceed with design drawings. I used Patock at St. Benedict on a similar building project to renovate the parish offices and to add meeting rooms and a Eucharistic Adoration Chapel.

This past week, per diocesan guidelines, I wrote a letter to Bishop O’Connell asking his permission to move forward by entering into a contractual agreement with Patock Construction Company to prepare design drawings. I await his reply.

Regarding Catholic Education, this past week, I signed a letter of agreement with Partners in Mission (PIM), a well-respected Catholic Schools consulting firm. St. Mary of the Lakes will work with PIM for the next three years on strategic planning, capital campaign planning, major gifts and planned giving regarding our “strategy and operations” and our “revenue” advancement activities. PIM will advise and counsel SMLS with respect to the implementation of these recommendations, including: tuition strategies; enrollment strategy; annual fund strategy and segmentation; volunteer management; constituent relations; and the school’s case for support. We expect this partnership to help SMLS institute and achieve an effective, well-rounded program of annual, capital, and planned giving support and a vibrant enrollment management program. They will also help us develop a job description for a Director of Admissions and Advancement, and participate in the screening and interview process. So, these are also exciting times for St. Mary of the Lakes School!

If you have yet to do your part by making a gift to the OFOFOF campaign, pledge forms are available at the doors of the Church.

Please join me in praying for the continued success of OFOFOF.

Father Dan would like to purchase three sets (two chasubles [priest], two dalmatics [deacon]) of vestments, one in green, one in purple, and one in red. Each vestment is $600 and can be memorialized by sewing a label with the intention in the vestment. If you are interested, call the parish office at (609) 654-8208, Ext. 110 or email [email protected].

St. Augustine Prep students Emmett Malady and Mike Cornelius are collecting items for CHOP’s Fostering Health Care program, such as arts and crafts supplies, coloring books, toys, books and snacks. There are fliers

in bins at church entrances or email [email protected]. Thank you for helping Emmett and Mike make a great contribution.

St. Mary of the Lakes is helping The Christian Caring Center collect back-to-school items for children in grades five through high school. Items needed include large back packs, binders, loose leaf paper, markers, pens, pencils, etc. There will be a bin at the back of the church on their behalf. Thank you for your generosity in helping the many children who are not so fortunate as others.

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving

each other, just as Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32

In preparation for our 75th Anniversary celebration, and in conjunction with our upcoming “Call Me By Name” program, the parish is working with Life Touch Family Photography to create a photo directory of St. Mary of the Lakes parishioners for both events.

Why participate? Have you ever heard an announcement regarding a parishioner and wished you could put a face with that name? Or, are you a new member and wish you had something to help you put names and faces together? This is a great way to identify parishioners, ministry leaders, parish and school staff and others, as well as have them know who you and your family are.

There is no cost to the parish to create the photo directory and each participating family will receive a complimentary (or free) 8 x 10 portrait, along with a copy of the photo directory, which will be delivered in June of next year. You will also have the opportunity to purchase additional photos to share, use as gifts, or even create your Christmas cards.

Photography sessions begin October 10th, but there will also be time to put your name on sign-up sheets after Mass beginning

September 26th. You can also visit the parish website where we will soon have a link to the photography studio to sign up and schedule your photo session. The more who participate, the more fun and helpful our photo directory will be, so please join us in making this a success!

For more information, contact Marian Incognito at [email protected]. Marian and her colleagues look forward to hearing from you and creating their beautiful and exceptional photos just for you and also to be placed in our directory.

This year, the Bear’s Den has, so far, enjoyed a wealth of activities, both fun and educational. In March, they showed off some musical skills with “Fiddlin’ Around,” an Irish band, and some leprechaun-type costumes for St. Patrick’s Day. April saw colored Easter eggs and favorite Easter treats, while in May, members created Mother’s Day cards and beautiful flower-filled pots. In June, they were treated with a visit from the Medford EMS team and learned about what they do in emergency situations. As seen in the photos below, July hosted patriotic balloon night, during which everyone sported red, white, and blue balloons.
