Principal’s Message What a way to end October and welcome November! Red Ribbon Week (Say No to Drugs Week) and princesses, monsters, Batman, Wonder Girls, and Ms Honey Bee in our EBES Fall Harvest Parade. These activities also marked the beginning of our Parent/Teacher Conferences and Book Fair. In November, we are looking forward to our Student Council Food Drive, our Mass Evacuation Drill, Veterans’ Day and Thanksgiving holidays. We are already well into the 2 nd quarter. As partners in your children’s education, we ask that you make sure to sign their home/school notebook daily. Be sure they read daily, especially those non-fiction books. Have them do iReady activities (Gr. K–6). If computer access is a problem, our computer labs are open between 7:15 – 7:45 am and 2:15 – 2:45 pm daily (except Wed. afternoons). Ask your child’s teacher for the permission form. We want to give our students the best support as they prepare for the state’s Smarter Balanced Assessment coming up in April and help develop skills that will help them become lifelong learners and be college and career ready. If there are any questions about your child’s progress, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher. We continue to wait on our cafeteria grease trap project as they did run into some difficulties; and we are now awaiting our C Building stairs renovation project. Strive HI results have been announced. Strive HI provides data on how schools are doing in achievement, growth, readiness, and closing the achievement gap. There is no school score this year, but we have scores for the above categories. For more information on Strive HI, check out the DOE website, come to our next Principal Coffee Chat, or contact me for further explanation on Strive HI, the Smarter Balanced Assessment, and our new journey through WASC accreditation. We will be making a more concerted effort to enforce our school dress code. We have been noticing an increase in students “inappropriately” dressed for school (not in compliance with our Dress Code). Students should come to school dressed appropriately in compliance with our school dress code, which promotes safety, responsibility, and respect. November is the month of Thanks. We have so much to be thankful for . . . family, friends, freedom, those who fight for our freedom, food on our table, and much more. I am thankful for our wonderful students and their families, and our hard-working faculty and staff here at Ewa Beach Elementary. I am very thankful for having the opportunity to work with all of you! May your month of thanks be filled with much aloha! November will be a busy month. Stay tuned by reading all notices that go home. We would love to have you participate in the activities. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 307-2300. All parents want to encourage their children to grow and thrive. But how do we do that? What are the best ways to encourage our kids so they’ll grow to be kind, confident, capable adults?

Join us for a fun & interactive workshop to learn: * How to provide encouragement to your child * How to build their self-esteem & help them have a healthy self-worth * We will learn the difference between “Praise” & “Encouragement” and learn how to use both.

It is sure to be a great workshop! Contact Delia Clark, PCNC, for questions: 428-1564.

Our “BUSY BEE” Students

StudentCouncilFoodDrive

Our Student Council will be conducting their annual Food Drive November 6 - 17, 2016. Food donations will be accepted in homeroom classrooms. Please take some time to check your kitchen pantry and donate a few items! Every donation will be greatly appreciated by a person in need.

Kindergarten students will be going to the Hawaii Plantation Village on Thursday, November 2, 2017. The students will be watching a play performed by The Leeward Theatre that deals with life on Hawaii's plantations. After the performance, students will have the opportunity to tour Hawaii's Plantation Village and learn about the different cultures that worked and lived in the plantations.

Third grade students will be attending a play at Hawaii Theatre in Honolulu on November 1st. The play is a twist on a classic tale -- Red Riding Hood. However, this play will be focused from the wolf's perspective! This exploration of character traits will aid student comprehension of characters, and highlight to students that stories often times have several points of view to look from.

BasketballTryOutsJust around the corner is basketball intramural season. A two-day tryout will be held in November after Parent/Teacher Conferences. Permission slips will go out to students who are interested in trying out for our school team. We have a Boys Team and a Girls Team.
