In Matt 6, Christ instructed the individual to not stand in a public arena and offer up their vain repetitions. Instead, He suggested we enter into our room (Matt 6:6), with our door shut, and begin our communion with God. What a solemn time for the faithful child of God to bring their petitions to their Father, and know He will supply their need according to His will. What is even more assuring, is when a Christian is approached by another brother and is told, “I have been praying for you.” Public prayer, prayer known and shared by others is equally powerful and can be utilized in a meaningful way to encourage hearts. For the Christian, there is no greater joy to know that you are mentioned in someone’s personal prayer. When we view prayer as the Lord did, a period of reverent, peaceful fellowship with God, offering, no pouring out to Him our cares, our value of prayer is magnified, and we see it as a time that we should not forsake nor take for granted. Then to know that a brother or sister in Christ has taken a concern, or petition on our behalf to the Lord, during their personal communion with God, our comfort of knowing the Father is watching over us can be multiplied. a confidence unwavering, knowing that we can do nothing on our part to deserve to come to Him. But we can come to Him, because of the blood of His Son and the grace of His love (Hebrews 4:14- 16). The true power of prayer should be recognized as coming from the One who has granted the avenue of prayer, a blessing not to be taken for granted. Prayer is our offering to our students, teachers, faculty, and staff, and board members for the 2011-2012 school year, newly beginning. We enjoyed the time of worship with a special emphasis on prayers for our schools, from Day School to the High School, and all employees and students for this year. It was a special time of reverence and reflection on the power our God has and offers to help us each day. Thanks to all who shared this time of worship and fellowship with us. I hope you know the blessing God offers us in communion with Him and fellowship with His Son and the Holy Spirit through the great gift of prayer. We hear the phrase “there is power in prayer” bantered around quite often. Yet the true power lies in the Majesty of the One listening to the prayer. With boldness we can come to His throne,

WE HAD A GREAT DAY AT THE… river this past Saturday. We had a great crowd of young people and several adults on hand! I love being on the river and especially doing it with our youth. I want to say a special thank you to the Hudgin’s family for hosting us, as well as the other adults who helped out and brought a boat: Alan and Suzette Potts, Doyle Totty, Mike Goodpasture and Clay Chessor. The weather worked out just perfect for us, and we were blessed with some great memories! Thanks again to everyone who was a part of this day.

THIS COMING THURSDAY NIGHT WILL BE…. Volleyball night in the Fellowship Hall. Everything kicks off at 6pm and concludes around 8pm. Dinner will be served as well, so be sure to come hungry. This is a perfect night to invite a friend to come and hang out and enjoy a very relaxed environment! All 6th-12th graders are invited to come! OUR FIRST FIRESIDE OF THE SCHOOL YEAR IS…. coming up this Sunday. It will be hosted by the Elkins’ family on Sunday night following our evening worship. Our Firesides are very special times that we have to fellowship together and worship together! These are for all 6th-12th graders and are something that you will definitely want to make a part of your regular routine! The bus will leave from the bus garage immediately following services on Sunday night! AS THE SUMMER WINDS DOWN I WANT TO…. encourage everyone to make the youth group a part of your everyday life! Being around Christian people on a regular basis is one of the most uplifting experiences that we can have. There are a ton of ways to see what is going on in the youth program, I hope you will take advantage of these. Check out our Facebook page, follow us on twitter, take a look at the youth page on the website, of course we print calendars and list events in the Messenger, as well as send out text messages throughout the week! If you need more information on how to access these things, please see me and I will be happy to help you out! Being a part of a youth group was a blessing to my life when I was younger, which is why I encourage our youth to participate. No youth ministry is perfect, but if we are each striving to be more like Jesus, we really can’t go wrong! I pray that you might choose to see what we’re all about! Light the Way-Chris
