C7 Engine with ACERT®TechnologyACERT® Technology works at thepoint of combustion to optimize engineperformance. ACERT® Technologyincorporates an electronic controller toprecisely deliver multiple injections offuel. These multiple injections arecombined with a refined airmanagement system in order togenerate fewer emissions and optimizefuel combustion while meeting U.S.EPA Tier 3 and E.U. Stage IIIa engineemission regulations. Dual Operator StationsThe AP-1055D incorporates dualoperator stations that can be rotated tofour different positions. The stationshave fully equipped consoles withmeter per minute (feet per minute)gauges, adjustable suspension seats,armrests and retractable seat belts. Theoperator stations can be positionedbeyond the machine frame. Extendingbeyond the frame provides the operatorwith good visibility when paving widerthan 3.05 m (10 ft). This is importantwhen matching a joint or whenworking along existing structureswhere precise paving control isrequired.

Generator (Optional)The generator is integrated within themachine frame and is located belowthe operator platform, between the dualoperator stations. HEUI Fuel InjectionThe HEUI™ fuel system is unique andcombines the technical advancement ofan electronic control system with thesimplicity of HEUI fuel injection. TheHEUI fuel system excels in its ability tocontrol injection pressure over the entireengine operating speed range. Thesefeatures allow the C7 engine to havecomplete control over injection timing,duration and pressure.

AirflowThe airflow design draws ambient airacross the engine compartment andthrough the radiator. This new designallows the exhaust air to exit the rightside of the machine in order to providea cooler engine compartment andoperator platform.

Quad Rear BogeyA special quad bogey is positionednear the rear of the steel track in orderto evenly distribute the load. The steeltrack system includes hydrauliccylinders to provide automatictensioning.

Exclusive Material Delivery SystemProductivity and quality enhancements are built-in features.

The feeders have outboard mountedmotors, reducers and feeder drivechains to maximize the live feedertunnel area and reduce center linesegregation. This design also providesgreater ease of servicing the feederdrive system.

Outboard Feeder Drives Increased live tunnel areaprovides easy servicing.

The AP-1055D provides precise mix delivery with minimaloperator monitoring through the most advanced materialhandling system.

Left and right feeders in addition to the left and right augersare controlled independently. The ability to control these fourcomponents separately, through a machine controller,eliminates the need for feeder gates.

In order to control mix delivery, the operator sets a speed ratefor each feeder that will maintain the desired mix level in theleft and right auger chambers.

Once the feeder speeds are set, the ratio of feeder speed to themaximum auger speed is automatically maintained by themachine controller, even though the propel rate may change asthe job progresses.

This ratio control capability is particularly helpful whenpaving wider on one side of the machine than on the other.Each feeder can be set at a specified speed to deliver theproper amount of mix that is needed.

Auger AssemblyProvides mat consistency while minimizing segregation.

The AP-1055D auger drive assembly isindependent of the tractor which allowsthe distance between the two feeders tobe significantly reduced. Keeping thefeeders close together allows the flowfrom both feeders to blend togethermore easily as they discharge into theauger cavity. The tunnel and augerdesigns eliminate voids under the chaincase to minimize segregation.

Feeder DesignTunnel constructionimproves mix flow.

Gateless Feeders Variable speed feeders precisely control mix delivery while reducing wear and segregation.

The gateless feeders on the AP-1055Dalways run full of mix regardless of thespeed required to fill the auger chamber.This is typically a slower speed thanwould be experienced with a paverutilizing feeder gates to control mixdelivery rates. By not always having torun at full speed, feeder componentwear is significantly reduced.

When changes in feeder speed arerequired, delivery of mix to the augers is

immediate. This is in contrast to paverswith gates, where any delivery ratechange is delayed for the length of timeit takes to clear the tunnel of mix fromthe previous gate setting.

Running at slower speeds can also helpreduce the opportunity for segregation,especially when working with largerstone mixes that have more of atendency to segregate.

The auger assembly height can behydraulically adjusted 192 mm (7.6").The ability to raise the auger assemblysimplifies loading and unloading from atransport vehicle. Also, when working

with larger stone mixes, segregation canoften be eliminated or minimized byraising the augers to allow mix to flowunrestricted under the auger assembly.

Optional Generator SystemThe high capacity, integrated generator ensures peak performance and high reliability.

Industrial, Single-Phase GeneratorThe 24 kW generator is hydraulicallydriven through a load-sensing,pressure-compensating pump providingquiet operation.

Single Control SwitchA single switch on the tractor’soperating console activates thegenerator. The generator operates at1800 rpm and includes GFCIprotection.

Full PowerFull power is provided to the electricscreed and auxiliary power panel whilethe engine is operating at low idlespeed. A control manifold and internalvoltage regulator maintains constantfrequency and voltage at both high andlow idle.

SuspensionThe high-speed Mobil-trac™undercarriage consists of a durable,high-strength rubber belt with a thickouter cover that includes five internallayers of flexible steel cable. The trackis 3023 mm (119") long and 457 mm(18") wide. Drive traction is providedby a hydraulic tensioning cylinder withaccumulator that maintains frictionbetween the belt and the drive wheels.Rubber-coated steel mid-wheelsprovide smooth ride and high tractionefficiency by distributing weight overthe entire length of the belt.

The steel track undercarriage consistsof four 241 mm (9.5") diameter trackrollers, a special rear, four roller 152 mm (6") diameter bogey, and two 152 mm (6") diameter single rollerreturn idlers per side. Rollers arebogied in pairs and each pair isarticulated for optimum levelingcapability. Rollers ride on Caterpillar®

D3 track rails. Track rails are sealed,lubricated and include a split masterlink for quick track removal andinstallation. The 3048 mm (120")tracks are fitted with 127 mm (5") by356 mm (14") rubber bonded trackpads. Track tensioning is provided by aparallel link swing arm design thatprovides constant hydraulic pressure.Track tension is maintained withoutmanual adjustment. Recoil forces arecontrolled by check and relief valves.

Electrical SystemThe 24-volt electrical system utilizestwo 12-volt batteries and a 24-volt, 100-amp alternator. The wiring iscolor-coded and number impregnatedfor easy servicing. Electrical wiring isprotected by vinyl-coated nylonbraiding for greater durability. Circuitbreakers located on the front side ofthe center console include manualresets.

Drive SystemThe Mobil-trac™ drive system utilizestwo dual path hydrostatic pumps andtwo fixed displacement motors. Thepumps are infinitely variable withelectronic displacement controls (EDC)for steering and speed. Single speedmotors drive two speed planetary gearboxes to provide two propel ranges.The drive system is equipped with twoswitches located at the operatorstations. The two switches are used asmanual overrides and are directlylinked to EDC’s.

The steel track drive system utilizestwo dual path hydrostatic pumps andtwo variable displacement motors. Thepumps are infinitely variable withelectronic displacement controls (EDC)for steering and speed. The two speedmotors drive single speed planetarygear boxes to provide two propelranges. The drive system is equippedwith two switches located at theoperator stations. The two switches areused as manual overrides and aredirectly linked to EDC’s.

Feeders and AugersDual feeders and augers are controlledthrough variable speed hydrostaticdrives and operate independently offorward speed. Right and left sidefeeders operate independently of eachother. Feeder drive and drive chains arelocated outside the mainframe for easyaccessibility.

Feeder flights are constructed ofheavy-duty bushed roller chain withforged steel flight bars sliding overreplaceable, abrasion-resistant dragpans with 360-440 Brinell hardness.

Long life auger system consists ofsegmented, 406 mm (16") diameter,cast Ni-Hard steel hemi-screw augers.Auger and hanger bearings have built-in steel shields for greater protection.Augers are driven independently bytwo motors. Each auger is controlledby an adjustable material flow switch.Manual override is provided. Augerheight is hydraulically adjustable192 mm (7.6").

Ventilation SystemThe ventilation system helps removeasphalt gas, vapors and fumes from theauger chamber area. The systemconsists of a hydraulically drivenexhaust fan, ducts and exhaust stack tovent asphalt gas, vapors and fumesaway from the operator and screedareas. The design provides goodvisibility to the feeders and a cooleroperating environment.

Operator StationsThe operator stations include dualcontrol consoles, each with lockablevandal cover, steering wheel, meter perminute (feet per minute) gauge, augerraise/lower switch, hopper raise/lowerswitch, left and right feederauto/off/man switch, left and rightfeeder speed control dial, left and rightauger auto/off/man switch, manualauger reverse switch, screed vibratorswitch, engine start switch, propelforward/reverse control lever,pave/travel/maneuver speed rangeselection switch, horn, maximum speedcontrol dial, secondary brake switch,screed lift switch up/down, extenderin/out switches and engine speedswitch.

The center control console includes thepower key switch, left and rightconsole selection switch, warningbeacon switch, working light switch,generator switch, screedcounterbalance switch and the hornbutton. Analog gauges are provided forengine coolant temperature, engine oilpressure, hydraulic oil temperature andfuel level. An electronic monitoringsystem (EMS-III) with horn and lightindicators monitor the left trackpressure, right track pressure, systemvoltage, engine temperature, operatorerror, hydraulic oil level, propelsystem, charge filter, material feed andscreed plate heat. A digital displayprovides engine rpm, service codeinformation, hour meter, gear selectionand meter per minute (feet per minute).

SteeringHydraulic power assist steering systemprovides smooth, low effort steering bymeans of a steering wheel. Electricover hydraulic dual path differentialsteering assures precise machinecontrol. Steering commands areindependent of propel speed.

Three steering modes including pave,travel and maneuver are selectable atthe operator consoles. When in thepave or travel mode, the steering rangeis electrically reduced to minimizeabrupt steering movements. When inmaneuver mode, the steering system isat full range, allowing the paver topivot-turn by counter-rotating thetracks.

BrakesThe service braking system consists ofa closed-loop, hydrostatic system thatprovides dynamic braking.
