What an amazing week of learning at An Phu Primary Campus this week, with such a

diverse array of activities that have been on offer to our children. The Term 2 Extra Cur-

ricular Clubs programme began again after its short break following the TET holidays. It

is great to see so many children engaging in clubs that range from gaining a greater

awareness towards our community partners to learning a new skill on the basketball

court. The key to unlocking the great potential that our children display is to encourage

them to try something new - you never know, the next Picasso, Michael Jordan or Albert

Einstein could be just around the corner. It’s just a matter of allowing the opportunity to

arise for all children to thrive in one particular area.

Congratulations to all of the children that took part in our AP1 Primary Production of ‘Oliver’ on Tuesday and

Wednesday to our children and Thursday evening to our parents. All audiences were captivated by the quality

of drama, music and dance. I would like to personally thank all members of the cast, teachers and parents for

their hard work, creativity and support in making this production possible. Details of how you can purchase the

‘Oliver’ DVD will be coming to you soon.

Today, you should have received your photograph order form and covering letter. If you would like to place an

order for class, composite, individual or team photographs please follow the instructions on the hard copy let-

ter. A soft copy of the covering letter can be accessed by clicking here. Samples of all photographs will be on

display outside the Main Office from Monday. Please can I ask all parents, as a professional courtesy to our

photographer, not to take pictures of the displayed photographs - thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

I would like to remind you that this term’s parent meetings at AP1 will take place on Tuesday 7th and

Wednesday 8th April from 3.00pm to 5.30pm. The school has introduced a new intuitive and easy to use

online appointment booking system. This allows you to choose your own appointment times with teachers and

then you will receive an email confirming your appointments. We are confident this will be an improvement to

the previous paper based system and as always, we would welcome any feedback from you about the process.

You will receive an email next week that will formally invite you to these evenings, together with step by step

information that guides you through the sign up process. Parent logins will be issued on Tuesday 10th March.

Please look out for more information in forthcoming Friday newsletters about this new development.

I hope that you enjoy looking through today’s pages and I wish you a very pleasant weekend.

Year 2 - IPC Circus Art with Ms Charlie

Issue 23/Page 4

Year 2 have enjoyed working with Ms Charlie this term in the art room. We have been really lucky because

each class has been able to try a range of different art projects. You can see in the photos that we have been

making sculptures, models and silk screen painting to make clown faces. We have found out that to make our

best pieces of work, we need to be patient, concentrate and be prepared to make changes.

Thank you Ms Charlie for working so hard and teaching us lots of new things.

Year 3 Art Gallery - Visual Representation

Issue 23/Page 5

Year 3 are enjoying figuring out exactly what ’Visual Representation’ means for their new IPC topic all about

art in its many forms. This week the children enjoyed walking around our own gallery on the second floor and

discussing the pieces they saw with friends. They each chose 3 favourites and made Pic Collages on the iPads to

explain why they liked them.

Look out for the gallery changing…soon it will be full of Year 3’s own visual representations!

Milepost 3 - Maths Competition

Issue 23/Page 6

WE LOVE MATHS!

As our BIS Maths FOBISIA team compete in Shanghai, Milepost 3 have been competing against each other in

our first ever MP3 Maths Competition.

The pupils were split into mixed ability, mixed gender and mixed class teams from across the Milepost. Each

team thought of their own team name and we had such genius ideas as; ‘We Like Pi’, ‘Graphing Gorillas’ and

‘Data Dingoes’.

The competition consisted of activities such as estimating the length of the football field, solving timed word

problems, a blindfolded treasure hunt, solving logic problems and building towers out of spaghetti and marsh-

mallows! Every team competed in every activity and scores were given to first, second, third and fourth places.

Here are the results:

All of the teams agreed it was the best way to use their Maths skills and much better than sitting in their class-

rooms with their usual classmates!

The MP3 staff would like to thank Mr John and Mr Andy, our Maths Leaders, for planning, organising and set-

ting up this wonderful learning experience for our children.

F1 Trip to AP2

On Friday 6th March, F1V made the long trek (for little legs) to AP2 to visit a Science lab in conjunction with

their topic on ‘Fire’.

The students put on laboratory goggles to be transformed into a little scientist and did two experiments under

the watchful eyes of their teachers.

Firstly they look it in turns to carefully light a Bunsen Burner and they were so surprised to see a flame ap-

pear from apparently nowhere. Then they were treated to a demonstration of different coloured flames created

by dipping a wire loop into a variety of chemicals which was then put into a hot flame.

They were excellent in their use of language saying things like ‘Purple fire!’ and ‘Nickel Chloride!’ Excellent

work F1V.

Digital Citizenship - Workshop for parents

Digital Citizenship Parent Workshop - Wednesday 18th March at 8.30am in the AP1 Gym.

Digital Citizenship is an integral part of all of our daily lives here at BIS. We recognise that it is important to

embrace the constantly changing environment while also doing everything we can to support our children as

they do so.

This workshop aims to explain to you the steps we are taking as a school to educate and protect our children

within an online world. We will give you an insight into the tools and methods we use within classes and guide

you through ways you can support your child’s digital journey at home too.

We will offer support and advice and introduce you to some

techniques and resources for you to use for both yourselves and

your children.

We look forward to seeing you there!
