What is Academic Writing?

● An academic journal publishes scholarly, peer-reviewed articles written by experts. The function of a journal is to distribute knowledge

● Research Paper: A research paper is a full-length, original research document that reports results of major and archival value to a specific community, and are peer-reviewed. These “peer reviewers” make sure the scholar has made valid arguments, and that he or she has cited appropriate experts in the field to support the argument.

● Review: Review articles organize, clarify, and summarize existing major works, and provide comprehensive citations to the relevant literature.

Books and Journals-original research that focus on one experiment -around 30 pages (journal articles).

-published on a regular basis (issues)

-Original research that may cover multiple experiments

-100 to several hundred pages.

-Published once, may be edited later.

How do we access the information?JSTOR (Journal Storage) is a digital library founded in 1995. Originally containing digitized back issues of academic journals, it now also includes books and primary sources, and current issues of journals
