Reading comprehension. Hi everyone! Look at this: my new blog! I started to write about my time here in Glasgow on my profile in social networks but there just isn´t enough space. I have so much to say. Emailing everybody takes too long and I´m not rich enough to tell you about my new Scottish life on my mobile, so a blog is perfect. I hope you´re all going to read it. I´m really looking forward to telling you what a great place Glasgow is. I never expected to like it so much. Living here is cool. I don´t think it´s a really beautiful city but there´s a lot to do and I like the people. The family I´m staying with is really nice and everyone at the school is friendly to me. Yesterday, a group of boys from my class invited me to the cinema with them and we had fun. But honestly, my old friends are the best. I miss you! Ooops, maybe I shouldn´t write that in a blog. My new friends can read it too. Everybody can! Well, to all my friends, old and new: thank you for being so cool! Jamie 1. Choose the correct option.

HERE YOU HAVE SOME VIDEOS THAT YOUR DEAR TEACHER BRUCE HAS PREPARED FOR YOU, ENJOY THEM:
Dear students,
I hope you are all well and still smiling despite the quarantine. It is really important to stay busy
and find new things to do each day, but make sure you also take time to rest and relax. Hakuna
matata!
But that’s enough dilly-dally [wasting time]! I’ve prepared a number of videos for you to
watch and enjoy in your own time, and hopefully inspire you to continue practising your English
as much as possible over the coming weeks. This time, I thought it might be fun if we focussed on
an unusual topic, but a topic that I love very much - poetry! These poems are a little bit different
from your average literature, so I hope you enjoy them!
Irregular Verb Rap

I thought we’d start off the resources with this fun little video by an interesting youtuber named
Fluency MC. It’s a little bit silly, but weirdly impressive too! The most important thing here is to
notice the way the teacher rhymes in couplets. Rhyming in couplets is when a piece of poetry or
music is written in pairs of lines which end in words that sound similar - or rhyme. This style is by
far the most common form of rhyme scheme in modern music, but it’s not the only form!

A Guide to a Special Type of Irish Poem - The Limerick
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQ79VFgDr8Q)
Here is an explanation of a different style of poetry, named a limerick. Although they originated
in Ireland, limericks are popular in all of the British Isles, especially amongst immature adults like
me. However, as the video states, they’re very easy to write and a great way to practise your
English!

Some Examples of Limericks
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BLXY7VFIlE)
Following on from the previous resource, here are some examples of limericks that might give
you a better idea of how they work! I hope you enjoy!

So, my personal challenge to you all this week is to try writing your own limericks and poetry.
Why not try and make them unique to you and to Tenerife? Here are three more examples that I
came up with:
Once in old Loro Park,
A parrot escaped in the dark
It waited for night
and took off in a flight
Then sadly was killed by a shark
When first I came to Spain
All its regions were just the same
Until me and my lady
Took a trip to mount Teide
We’ll never go back to the UK again
There once was a teacher named Bruce
Who stupid games would always produce
The students all groaned
And looked down at their phones
6
This chacho was mad as a goose!
One Final Video
Well, since this week’s theme is about poetry, you can find attached a video of me reading one of
my favourite poems: Smiling is Contagious by Spike Lee Mulligan!
