• Apex Mine is located 14 miles west of St. George.
• Property consists of 24 patented mining claims and 9 unpatented mining
claims covering 619 acres.
• Germanium, gallium, and copper deposit found near the contact of the
Pennsylvanian Callville Limestone and overlying Permian Pakoon Dolomite
• Copper mined from 1872 until the 1940s.
• In 1985 Apex became the world’s first primary producer of germanium and
gallium, producing until 1987.
• Teck, and a joint venture partner Penarroya, purchased the property in
1996.

• In 2002, Teck inventoried dangerous mine features including stopes, adits
and shafts.
• In 2003 and 2008, bat gates and grates, foam closures, and fences were
installed to address public safety concerns.
• Increasing vandalism/trespassing by mineral collectors prompted Teck to
begin planning for further reclamation.
• In 2011, Teck initiated a reclamation program that included:
Demolishing and removing site equipment and infrastructure
Re-grading and contouring the former mine pad, dump, and roads
• Annual inspections observed areas of poor re-vegetation; initiated
additional seeding in 2014.
• Operation and maintenance activities are conducted as needed.
