1 1.0 Introduction Particle properties of the material have a significant effect on its respective industry. It is found that the research o n the particle shape that has been carried out is limited. Indeed, there are a lot of particle properties such as tensile strength, stiffness, strength and etc. that can be further studied. However, in this project, the particle properties that will be focus on are packing de nsity, permeability, and flowability. A study on the effect of particle shape impact on packing density, permeability and flowability, a simple experiment are carried out. The material that was chosen for this experiment is rice grain. Three kinds of rice grain such as long grain, medium grain, and crushed grain which represent different types of particle shapes were used in this experiment. Rice grain was chosen because there are different shapes available where the long grain is an ellipsoidal shape, the medium grain is oval shape and the crushed grain is irregular shape. In addition, the rice grain properties are relatively similar so there should be no other properties which would affect the particle properties that are needed to be studied on.
