New £12m Centre of Excellence for Composites, Advanced Manufacturing and Marine (CECAMM) on schedule for completion in the Spring 2017
Empowering the next workforce generation The new facility provides the existing and future workforce of the Isle of Wight with the skills local employers need in order to grow and prosper in the modern economy, and to encourage new businesses to locate and invest on the Island. This will be achieved through the new employer-led training facility at the Whippingham Technology Park, East Cowes, Isle of Wight, PO32 6FY. The CECAMM facility offers students a choice of career first with the appropriate course to secure that career. Whatever your engineering career aims and goals, CECAMM can help you achieve them. The selection of composites, marine, engineering and manufacturing courses has been developed with industry leaders to ensure that students complete their courses with relevant experience and industry-standard knowledge. Previous students have gone on to higher education, advanced apprenticeships, employment and self-employment.
Q: Why is good attendance so important?
A: So you get a better grade!
This means:
You get a better job or go to a better university
Earn more for the rest of your life
attendance + punctuality
= success
Together we can ensure you progress in whichever direction suits you. The 2,950m2 building is designed to directly simulate an engineering industry working environment.
Who is CECAMM for? CECAMM is for school-leavers aged 16+ and adults working, or aspiring to work, in engineering (aeronautical, electrical, electronic and mechanical), composites, manufacturing, and marine industries.

Public Services students have been volunteering for a project with Age UK called Recall and Reminisce. The project involves interviewing ex-service members over the age of 50. The students asked questions about the interviewee’s lives in the Services and their experiences. They also asked what the interviewees did after their time in the Services and how they were affected by their time in the services. The ex-servicemen told about conflicts that they had taken part in such as Hong Kong, India, America, Ireland, Germany and Poland.
The stories that the students have been told by the interviewees have been very interesting and they have given a helpful insight to what life was like in the Services in the past. Terry Gaskin (Tutor) said “The educational benefits for the students in this exercise are huge. Not just their academic development, but also their social and moral understanding of an older generation. It is something I would like to see repeated”.
