QUESTION RESPONSEA. What studies has your university done

in the last three years to ensure your graduates are meeting the needs of employers?

Proficiency in another language makes the student more marketable.

B. Do you have measurable goals to meet employers’ current needs? If so, please provide them. How often are these goals updated?

There is not an accrediting body for French or Spanish. However the field of foreign languages follows the National Standards of Foreign Language education. The 5 C's are Communication, Culture Connections, Comparisons and Communities. "These standards describe the 'what' (content) of world languages learning and form the core of standards-based instruction in the world languages classrooms."

C. Do you have measurable goals for each graduate in the areas of writing proficiency and critical thinking? If so, please send them to me with the goals and include the results for the last five to ten years.

Please refer to the attached FAMU Assessment Planning form Fall 2009-2010 for both French and Spanish. Refer to Section III/Outcome #1: Communication Skills that deals with writing skills (pages 2 & 3)

E. Are professors required to integrate writing proficiency and critical thinking into all courses? If so, what oversight is provided to ensure that these skills are being taught? How are these skills integrated into course assessments?

Please refer to the attached FAMU Assessment Planning form Fall 2009-2010 for both French and Spanish. Refer to Section III/Outcome #2: Critical Thinking (pages 3 & 4)
