Information in unnum­bered introductory paragraphs is also indexed; such locators refer to pages of the inventory and are preceded by "p." For series entry 749, the extensive central classified files of the Office of the Secretary of the Interior, file designations are also given in index locators. For example, the locator 749:14-24 in the index entry "Howard University" refers to file 14-24 of the central classified files (series entry 749). Appendix I of the inventory, beginning on page 253, is a select list of file subject headings for the central classified files.
