• I have personally tried the app.

• Instagram is an easy to use photo sharing and photo app. Login was simple to complete. Part of the process allowed me to add friends. After taking the photo, I was able to change the appearance of the photo by choosing one of 17 filters. I then could either post or cancel the photo.

• I liked the ability to either look at friends or popular photos. The posting process is very quick. I am not sure another posting site is really needed and the filters are not that great. A few friends I know use this app for sharing photos. Looking at the photos does give a nice slice of other peoples lives.

• I have personally tried the app, favorite camera effect app.

• Amazing app. Zoom is part of taking the photo. I was able to use 16 editing effects, adjust angle, crop, use four FX effects of nine styles each and even included borders. After that I could post to flickr, Facebook, twitter or e-mail. Finally I could save to my camera roll.

• More than I expected from a free app. The app made editing very easy to use. More of a complete photo editing app but I placed it here because of the zoom. I could not find anything bad to say about it and enjoyed using it.

• Camera Effects

• Cost: $ 1.99 - Rating ****

• I personally tried the app, favorite special effect app.

• One of my favorite apps. The app is limited by what it does but what it does is great. When active I had to scan the area slowly as the picture is formed. The app takes small pictures which it overlays into a large landscape picture. The app converts the individual pictures into a 360 degree photo.

• The app can scan a room or a landscape into a 360 degree view. Great for taking sunsets or other large scan pictures. If you wanted to remember a layout of a room prior to remodeling, this is the app. Could be used for inventory purposes also. Some corners may look blurred due to the angle.

• I have personally tried the app.

• The app allowed me to take a panoramic view by matching a set of photos together. The app does have a short help section. The editing has 7 effects you can display the photos in. After that I could post to flickr, Facebook, twitter or e-mail. Finally I could save to my film roll.

• Compared to 360, I am very disappointed. The help section was limited on explanation, did not explain how to delete bad photos. The effects in my opinion were poor from an artistic point of view. Light table collage effect was the best, the rest were like dropping photos on a table but too disorganized. I would not recommend this app.

• Camera Effects - Filters

• Cost: $ 3.99 - Rating by Stars ***

• I have personally tried the app.

• FilterStorm has an improved camera control within the app. I could use a new photo, my camera roll, or paste an image in. The app has 18 filters which allows many effects to be applied to the photo. I could also use automations - effects others have already developed. The photos can be saved to the library or e-mailed.

• The app was harder for me to use than some others but within the app were links to tutorials. The app had a lot of functions found in other apps. I liked the editing functions. The filters may be more useful to others wanting to retouch photos in detail.

• Mosaic

• Cost: $ .99 - Rating by Stars *****

• I personally tried the app, favorite mosaic app.

• Photo Mosaica is an app which allowed me to select a photo from my library and creates a mosaic of the photo. The steps are clear on how to create the mosaic. The time for the process was quick. The app is designed for a specific function.

• The free version does not allow you to save your creations while the paid app does. I liked that I could select photos to use or use the entire library. The more photos you use to make the mosaic, the better the photo will look. If you need an app to make a mosaic then this is a good one, otherwise there is not a reason to use it.

• Collage

• Cost: Free - Rating by Stars ****

• I have personally tried the app.

• Pic Collage makes creating a collage a simple process. I could can take photos with my camera, collect photos from the library or from Facebook. I could also change the background color from a selection of 16 colors. By double tapping on photos, I could add 9 effects, adjust the color hue, brightness and color saturation. I could change the size, rotate, bring to the front and delete the photos.

• I liked the app for what it does. You can create some nice looking collages quickly. The resizing helps to emphasize certain photos over others. The photos can be laid out as a timeline or layered in a random fashion. An app that is designed for a specific function.

Page 12: Apple Applications

Photo MessPhoto Mess• Photo Mess

• Collage

• Cost: Free - Rating by Stars ****

• I have personally tried the app.

• Photo Mess makes creating a collage or a photo layout a simple process. I controlled the app through a set of six controls. I could take photos with my camera or collect photos from the library. As I added photos, they stacked on the background. The photos could then be resized, rotated and stacked as I wanted. I could also line them up in a series, like a timeline. I could change the background, the borders of the photos and create shadows. The final results I could send by e-mail, Twitter, Facebook and save to the camera roll.

• I really liked the app. You can create some nice looking collages as well as series of photos. The resizing and layering was quick. I liked the ability to apply borders to all photos at once. Two items I disliked. The main control takes a bit to get use to. The control panel tends to shrink to the default spot. The other item is the extras, just feel there should be more free options instead of charging for every addition add-on.

• Photo Editor

• Cost: Free - Rating by Stars **

• I have personally tried the app.

• Auto Adjust is a simple app which performs color, contrast and auto contrast. The contrast has controls for highlights, midtones and shadows. The color control adjusts saturation. The auto adjust determines the best results automatically. Not too much functionality with this app.

• I found the controls easy and simple to use. If you want to just do basic touchups, this would work as the app. Don’t expect a full version of a photo editor, the controls are limited but the app is free.

DrawCastDrawCast• DrawCast

• Photo Editor - Drawing

• Cost: Free - Rating by Stars ****

• I have personally tried the app.

• DrawCast is a drawing app which allowed me to draw on my photos. I could select a new painting, photos from library, e-mail to a friend or post to Facebook. Once I had the photo selected, I could chose from 24 basic colors, an eyedropper and scaled white to black. There is an adjustable brush with an intensity/translucence slider. There is an undo button and eraser for errors. The app works with 3 skins; original, midground and foreground.

• I included the app because I wanted something easy to draw on photos. The layers are nice to use. You can add and make changes on different levels without affecting the background photo. The app is similar to Windows Paint but with some better controls.

Photo CropPhoto Crop• Photo Crop

• Simple Photo Editor

• Cost: Free - Rating by Stars **

• I have personally tried the app.

• The app allows you to either select a photo from the camera roll or the camera. With the app I could flip the photo 90 degrees either way. Once that is selected I could adjust or crop the area of the photo I wished to save. I could also move the area I wanted to crop around once I selected the dimensions. Finally, save the new photo.

• I know sometimes you have taken some photos and just want to crop out parts of the photos. If you have no desire to change shadows, color saturation or filters this is a good app. A no frills app for cropping photos.

• I have personally tried the app.

• Photo Editor HD Lite is an app for editing photos. After I selected a photo from the library, I could make change to the brightness, color saturation and hue by using sliders. That was all I was allowed to do with the lite version.

• I was not going to review this app but I wanted to discuss what I disliked in an app. This was one of the least liked for two reasons. I could not save my work and almost every click caused a pop-up asking me to purchase the full version. The app should at least allow you to save your work.

• Camera Effects - Filters

• Cost: Free - Rating by Stars **

• I have personally tried the app.

• I was able to select from the camera roll or take a photo with the camera. After selecting the photo, I was able to either use as the photo or zoom into a part of the photo. After accepting the selection, I had a choice of fifteen predefined filters. Finally, I could save to the camera roll, Facebook, Tumblr or twitter.

• The photo selection and the cropping process was easy. Some of the filters have nice effects but none are really different from many other apps. The name made the app seem more extensive than it was. To me and others, the app was not very impressive.

• I have personally tried the app.

• PhotoPad is an editor which allowed me to select photos from my library. I was able to crop, resize and rotate the photo. I was able to adjust the brush and change the colors. There are hue, saturation, color level, brightness, contrast and tint controls. There are 8 filters available. I was also able to e-mail the final photo.

• The app contains a nice set of helps to show how to use it. The app was very easy to use except for the color selection. There was no color boxes to select, instead you use an eyedropper from the picture. A good basic photo editor. Included is the ability to order a ZAGGskin for a wide range of electronic devices containing your photo.

• I have personally tried the app.

• I was able to select from the camera roll or take a photo with the camera. After accepting the selection, I had a choice of twenty-five predefined filters, thirty lighting effects, and thirty-one frames. I could save to the camera roll, iTunes, Facebook, Flickr, Imm.io, Dropbox or e-mail.

• Although this app may seem similar to PhotoFXHD, Pixir-O-Matic has many more abilities. The filters made the photos look improved. I did not like most of the lighting effects but others may. I liked the frames, they add a retro look to the photos. The wide section of places to save the photos was also impressive.

• I have personally tried the app, favorite photo editor.

• I was able to select from the camera roll or take a photo with the camera. After accepting the selection, I was able to crop, straighten, rotate, flip, adjust exposure, color saturation, tint, contrast and convert to black and white. Other options were sketch effect, soft focus, sharpen and reduce noise. I could also use six effects and eight borders. Finally I can save to camera roll, photoshop express or Facebook.

• The controls were easy to select and use, pop-ups gave descriptions for their use. One of the better photo editors I have tried. The filters did more than just change the color of the photo. The tint adjustment provided a wide range of color filtering. Photo Shop always seems to produce good quality products.

• Photo Editor - Remove People

• Cost: Free - Rating by Stars ***

• I have personally tried the app.

• The app is designed to remove unwanted moving objects such as walking tourists, from a photo. The app is described as simply taking several photos of the same scene. After the photos are taken, the photos are processed with the moving objects being removed from the scene.

• My personal experience while taking photos is best to wait for the objects / tourist to leave the scene. To use the app, I tried just holding the iPad very still but recieved errors. I could not just hold it, I had to brace the iPad against something. Some photos turned out well but some had sort of a shadow where the moving object was. I guess if I wanted a photo of a landscape/building, this app would be useful at removing people.

• I have personally tried the app.

• Upon opening the app, I was directed to select from the camera roll or take a photo with the camera. Settings allowed to adjust the size, strength and gain of the dots. The dots give the photos a retro look. After accepting the selection, I was able select 27 different paper styles, pick nine different layouts. Additionally I could add six different text balloons and 24 stamps in a large array of text fonts. Finally I can save to the album, Facebook, Twitter or print.

• The controls were listed at the bottom of the app. I had fun going through the abilities of the app. The dots image adds to the photo but can be reduced greatly. The focus is more about changing the looks of the photos than improving/repairing the photos. A nice app to have for when you want to make that retro look on your photos.

• Simple Photo Editor

• Cost: $ .99 - Rating by Stars ****

• I have personally tried the app.

• A silly but fun app. With the basic app, I could move face from one person to another person. The full app allowed me to transfer a face from one photo to another photo. The app has two grids which can be adjusted to the faces. Once the grids are how I wanted them, I just clicked swap.

• A good app for a specific purpose. You can swap any two faces. I swapped the face of my cat with one of our dogs. The app will give you some laughs. You could change two objects, not just faces. The swap does not work a well as a pro photo editor but still a nice app.

• Simple Photo Editor

• Cost: $ 1.99 - Rating by Stars ***

• I have personally tried the app.

• Impression is a simple app for creating watermarks and other text on photos. Selecting the photo from the camera roll is the starting point. I could type what text I wanted and add it to the photo. There are 70 different fonts to chose from. Changing the position and size was done by just touching the screen. I could also change the opacity, brightness, saturation and hue of the text. The final product can be saved or e-mailed.

• The controls were listed at the bottom of the app. Everything was simple to figure out. I could see the usefulness for watermarking photos you wanted to submit to social sites. You can also add a message to a photo, like names or dates. Impression is a good app for a specific need.

• Photo Editor

• Cost: $ 4.99 - Rating by Stars ****

• I have personally tried the app.

• I was able to select from the camera roll or take a photo with the camera. After accepting the selection, I was able to use the options of automatic, selective adjust, tune image, straighten, crop, black and white image, vintage, drama, grunge, center focus and frames. Each feature performs different functions, usually with pop-up hints. With each function, a compare and revert is available. Finally I could save to camera roll, print, Flickr or Facebook.

• Snapseed was one of the more expensive app I have tried but the app was more a full functional app than others. The controls were easy to select and use. Each function served a separate task. The app had filters but were under titles such as Drama, Grundge and Vintage. The app was one of my favorite ones to test.

• I have personally tried the app.

• I was able to select from the camera roll, the camera or from Facebook. After accepting the selection, I was able to use the options of gray, recolor and original color. The gray allowed me to adjust gray size and intensity. Recolor had 25 colors to choose along with a brush size adjustment and intensity. Original color allowed for brush size and intensity. The photo can be recolored for a special effect.

• Color Effects was a one of the several apps to allow for recoloring of photos. The controls were easy to select and use. The brush was not very precise and I had to recolor areas several times to fix mistakes. Nice effects could be obtained after significant practice with the brush.

• I have personally tried the app, favorite color masking app.

• I was able to select from the camera roll, the camera, paste or from Facebook. The app has several helps like video, e-mail support, tips, and Facebook. After accepting the selection, the photo was grayed out. There were two brushes, spray can, paint roller and eraser. The brush allowed me to adjust the size and intensity. There are seven filters for tinting the photo. The photo can be saved to the camera roll, e-mail and Facebook.

• ColorBlast! was another apps to allow for recoloring of photos. The controls were easier to select and use. The brush was very adjustable. The filters really help the photos to stand out. The helps were very informative for me. The wide variety of paint items made the app easy to use.

• I have personally tried the app.

• I was able to select only from the camera roll. The app has no notes or popups to help. like video, e-mail support, tips, and Facebook. After accepting the selection, the photo was grayed out. There were 14 presets to pick. There is a boost on/off selection. The app also has red, green, and blue color sliders. The photo can be saved to the camera roll, or e-mail.

• ColorMask was the final app to allow for recoloring of photos. Unlike the other apps, this app filters out all colors except the color selected. There are no brushes like the other apps. You filter in the color you want so other objects may be colored that you do not want. In some ways, this app can be more useful than the other apps I tried.

• Video

• Cost: $ 1.99 - Rating by Stars *****

• I have personally tried the app, favorite time lapse editor.

• After I started by selecting a new movie, I was able to choose time-lapse, manual, remoted and microphone to operate the camera. I could also title the movie then. Time-lapse took shots every 0.5 seconds to once a day. Manual would allow me to take shots when I wanted. Remoted requires another app called “iMotion Remote” and another device for control. Microphone is set on a noise level trigger. I used the time-lapsed control for my movies. The options allowed for time intervals, onion skin, seeing a grid and tick pre count. The tools allowed me to play the movie and delete unwanted frames. The movie can be saved to the camera roll, iTunes, YouTube, Motion gallery or e-mail.

• iMotion HD has nice help for using the app. The app made it easy to take movies and edit. I would have liked to have had it when I was doing some stop motion movies. The app is free unless you want to use all the export options. Very fun app I would strongly recommend for others.

• Videolicious

• Video

• Cost: Free - Rating by Stars ***

• I have personally tried the app.

• Videolicious is a movie creating app. I started by selecting one of the 25 video ideas. I then could film some video or use photos and videos from my film roll. The next step was to record audio for the movie. The movie was limited to around 10 shots and 50 seconds. The third step was to choose background music from music on my iPad. After the selection, the movie was processed and ready to watch. The movie can be saved to the camera roll, Facebook, YouTube, or e-mail.

• Videolicious takes the photos/video and creates a narrative type of slide show. The controls limit how much control you have over new movie. The time is limited as well as the number of shots. There is help on every step of the process to assist you. If you have no other editing software or just want to make a quick movie, this would work. I would prefer more precise controls for my movies.

• I have personally tried the app.

• To start, I selected the ‘+’ and the movie camera activates. A small icon on the bottom opens the tool bar. I could track total time, frames taken, cut frames, display a grid, use overlay, zoom, set frames per second, use HD, sound and preview. Grid helps with framing the subjects. Tracking the frames is important to know how long the final movie will be. Zoom and overlay helps for special effects. The tools allowed me to play the movie and delete unwanted frames. The movie can be saved to the camera roll, YouTube, Facebook, or iTunes.

• StopMotion is a fair stop motion app. I was able to choose frames per sec to improve quality. StopMotion has nice help for using the app. Holding the iPad steady while taking shots is the hardest part. The app was harder to use than some others to take movies and edit. The grid is a real nice feature to have. The app is cheaper than others so expect less. I would probably pick a different one to use.

• Video

• Cost: $ 1.99 - Rating by Stars *****

• I have personally tried the app, favorite video editor.

• After I started by selecting a new project, I was able to create an opening title, closing credits as well as fonts, style, and length for both. There was 28 scene transitions available. Next in the project, I could select video or photos to import. The video can be trimmed and split while the photos can be reordered. Sound can be recorded or imported from my iPad music. After everything was finished, i went to my projects to render the movie. The final movie can be deleted, played, compressed, edited again or saved to the camera roll, YouTube or e-mail.

• ReelDirector is a great video editor. The app has a nice help for using the app. The app made it easy to take videos/photos and edit. Being able to trim the videos makes the app closer to a real editor than some of the others I tested. The app is well worth the price. I would strongly recommend for others.

• My personal review or hyperlink to Abram’s review

• I have personally tried the app.

• To start, I selected the ‘+’ and the movie camera activates. The developer is the same as StopMotion so the look is similar. The controls on the left determine the interval, time start and stop, output in frames per second and timestamp. The shots can be from zero second to every 24 hours. The time start/stop is either manual or a date/time in five minute intervals. The frames per second is one to 120 . A time stamp can be present or not. The movie can be saved to the camera roll.

• TimeLapse is an easy app to use. A nice app for quick time lapse filming. The features limit what can be done to develop a movie. No titles or sound input marks the app down for me. Not as good as others, holding the iPad is hard during recording.

• Video

• Cost: $ 1.99 - Rating by Stars *****

• I have personally tried the app, favorite effect editor.

• MovieLooks HD is a movie creating app. I started by selecting one of the videos from my film roll. I was able to trim the video as needed. I could then select a total of 40 movie effects named quick, essential, popular film, black and white and blockbusters. I was then able to adjust the strength, brightness and resolution. The effects are improved filters which give the video an overall look. The basic app comes with 16 effects and the other 24 can be purchased separate. The tweaking can mellow the effects. The resolution selection is full or half. Full is better quality but takes longer to render. but look better. The movie can be saved to the camera roll.

• MovieLooks HD takes the video and adds special looks to the video. The trim is easy to use. The controls limit how much control you have over new movie. The longer the movie, the longer the rendering time. There is information on every step of the process to assist you. No changes to audio takes place. The app is a nice way to change the overall look of your movie. A nice app to have for adding a feel to your movies. Very fun app I would strongly recommend for others.
