    Objective This document describes necessary steps and guidelines to optimally configure the 3COM VCX platform with Ascom i75 VoWiFi handsets running software version 1.6.15 or later. The guide should be used in conjunction with 3COMs configuration guide(s) and is intended for someone knowledgeable of VCX and Ascom i75 VoWiFi systems.

    Configuration Technical Details The Ascom i75 is an adaptable VoWIFI handset that is designed to be shockproof and ESD protected. It can withstand rough handling and is highly recommended for use in harsh environments.

    How it Works Ascom i75 handsets enable wireless telephony, wireless messaging and wireless personal alarm. All these features fit into one single, robust and purpose built unit specifically designed for use in everyday work. Naturally, the Ascom i75 allows you to send and receive messages as you wish. Built to support Interactive Messaging, this handset is uniquely equipped to communicate with a comprehensive range of external sources, including building management systems, hospital systems and production process systems.

    Testing Observations These tests were primarily focused on verification of SIP interoperability in the following scenarios:

    Basic phone configuration and registration Basic calls Telephony features Audio features, including codecs and DTMF

    Other scenarios involving the WLAN itself, including data security/encryption, were tested to a lesser degree.

    Configuration Details The following settings represent, unless stated differently elsewhere, the generic WLAN configuration required for tests alluded to in this document:

    Beacon Interval: 100 ms DTIM Interval: 5 Activation of IEEE 802.11d regulatory domain information Activation of WMM Open authentication/No encryption (better security optional)

    NOTE: Call signaling has to be remarked on the ingress switch port to DSCP AF31 or BE (best effort) before U-APSD power-save mode can be considered in the WLAN. Voice packets are generally marked as DSCP EF. However, please refer to the user manual for specifics regarding the WLAN system before fine-tuning QoS. (Observed while testing the VCX Connect 100)

    4. The default web screen is Users. We first create a user for each extension by selecting the Add User button

    5. The following web screen is displayed. A user name i.e. 1Ascom, is created for each handset extension

    6. Here the user 1Ascom information is entered and then select Save button

    7. After selecting Save above the following user web interface is displayed

    and the user 1Ascom is listed

    8. Next create the phone extension by select the Users/Phones Web interface

    11. Enter the number of extensions to create i.e. 2 and the starting extension

    number 2975. Give these extension a name i.e. Ascom and the default password is 12345. Then select the Save button

    12. Scroll down the Phones web interface to verify the extensions have been created.

    13. Once again select the Users web interface. Scroll to the right of the user 1Ascom and select the Phones button.

    15. Select the check box next to the extension to associate with the user i.e. 2975. Then select the Assign Selected button

    17. The Assigned Phones web display now lists extension 2975

    18. Repeat the above steps for each additional extension to be used for Ascom i75 Handsets. Once the handsets are configured using the steps below, select the Registrations button. Once registered the Phone IP address should appear here

    Ascom Configuration Details Follow the Ascom i75 installation manuals to configure the extension created earlier on the VCX. Also be sure to configure the following parameters to ensure operation as tested. In the example below the i75 handset is configured a different another extension 1001 than outlined in the VCX steps above. Endpoint configuration (1)
