From the Principal

Thank you for your interest in working at Mercedes College.

Mercedes is a Catholic Reception to Year12 co-educational College in the Mercy tradition located in the foothills of Adelaide, South Australia. It was established in 1954 and has a tradition of being forward-looking and innovative. This is evidenced by the College being one of the first schools in Australia to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, with the IB Diploma first being delivered to students in 1989. The IB Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) was instigated in 1997, with the IB Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) beginning in the following year.

To this day the College continues to be one of a small number of school across the globe that offers all three IB Programmes. Senior students are also able to select to study the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) should this better suit their learning style. The College’s ongoing accreditation by the Council of International Schools (CIS) is testimony to our commitment to being outstanding in all aspects of our operations.

Both our Catholic values, as evidenced on a daily basis by our commitment to living by the Mercy Keys, and the IB philosophy fit well the College’s intention to assist young people to flourish in all areas of their humanity.

The College is split into three levels of schools all of which are on the same campus. The Junior School (R to 5) has a strong philosophy of enquiry within its teaching programmes and is strongly child centred in its practices.

The Junior School comprises approximately 300 students and is a vibrant and happy part of the College.

The Head of Junior School is responsible to the Principal for the day-to-day organisation and curriculum development of Reception - Year 5. The Head of Junior School is a member of the College’s Executive Leadership Team.

I invite you to view our website www.mercedes.catholic.edu.au to learn more about the College.
