EXPLANATION – PURPOSE Intermountain Christian Camp’s, SWAT- Leadership Camp

This camp is for Christians that want to develop leadership skills and take their faith to the next level.

***(See Insert for Camp Dates and Deadlines )***

The applicant needs to read and understand the purpose of the camp, fill out all the applications in the packet and commit to its covenant. This explanation page is designed to give you a glimpse into what this camp is about and allow you to step up and accept the challenges it will place before you. Please do not go quickly through this process, make sure you are aware of the style of this camp, the commitments you are making and the expectations that will govern the camp. Please take into account that this is not a regular camp for everyone. It is a very intense camp designed to develop the faith that is already possessed by young Christians into their character, actions, world view and lifestyle.

What is SWAT - Leadership Camp?

This Leadership Camp is a 8 day event held at Intermountain Christian Camp, in Fairfield, ID in June, for youth going into high school through graduated seniors. (See Insert for Dates) This camp is for Christians that want to develop leadership skills and take their faith to the next level. This is an intensive camp designed to develop the faith that is already possessed by youth and take it farther into their character, actions, world view and lifestyle.

We are passionate about developing youth into leaders for Jesus Christ.

This Leadership camp is built around 4 critical elements: - Cultivating a passion for God. - Growing leadership skills and character in Christian youth. - Developing a Christian and Spiritual worldview. - Learning biblical/spiritual truths through what we know and see in the physical world.

Our hope is that all who are involved with this camp will walk away with more than just another long week at camp. Our goal is to develop a Spirit-changed life that is more prepared to face and lead others through the struggles of this world. We want to see God use this Camp to bring up a generation of leaders for His Kingdom.

CAMP Design / Purpose Overview

The Camp consists of 8 days of life changing and motivating experiences. The 8 days consist of intensive learning, training, and experiences, ending with a rite of passage that inspires all to re-penetrate the world as a better Christian and leader. This camp is designed to be experiential in its process. However, it is driven by a question. How do you teach spiritual truths of an unseen world? Many times when people encounter teachings of the spiritual world they have a hard time grasping the concepts or believing it altogether because they can’t see it. So, how do we overcome this barrier? You do it like Jesus did - He took the earthly things people knew and understood then used them to teach and illustrate a higher spiritual lesson. Jesus used things like farming, sowing fields, fishing, shepherding, servants, masters, etc. - and His followers did the same, even using things like boxing, sport, and warfare. In other words, we are going to follow their example but in a very experiential way - using what we can see and then placing ourselves in those very situations. We will be looking at what we know from leadership, discipleship, and the history of warfare, as we build bridges into the spiritual world and develop leaders for the kingdom of God.

Learning

There is an intense emphasis on learning and gaining knowledge into the spiritual world. Lessons and teachings will play a critical role throughout the camp. They will take on more meaning, have a greater importance and take on a higher application in all dally camp activates than at a regular camp. As a camper you will have to learn and memorize portions of the information that will be presented to you at a high proficiency level, so you can accurately use it in the scenarios and experiences throughout the camp. This camp requires note taking, memorization, recalling information skillfully, showing understanding of material through testing, and life application of learned truths. You will be learning the material in many different ways and forms. There will also be help from teachers and fellow campers to aid in this learning process. Being an "A" student is not a requirement, but the desire to learn and be willing to put forth an above ordinary effort in gaining knowledge is vital. We see the lessons at SWAT as a spiritual foundation to everything we do.

Discipline

One situation campers will be put into is a type of discipline. This camp will have a boot camp feel to it. However, we are not here to belittle or harass the campers. But we are going to require discipline and reinforce the cooperation of the camper with physical training, i.e. push-ups, sit ups, and running. We do this as another teaching method. How can we train ourselves to be disciplined spiritually if we do not understand what it takes to be disciplined and trained physically? This type of discipline will be applied and practiced throughout every aspect of the camp. Every morning will also start with PT (Physical Training) exercises. Several of the training experiences will also require some physical stamina. We recommend that all campers prepare themselves for this before they come to this camp.

The Sport of Paintball

Another situation campers will be put in at this camp will be the sport of paintball. We use this sport to help bridge the gap between the physical and spiritual world. In doing so, we take what we know from the history of warfare and analyze it, in order to see what it can teach us about spiritual warfare. The paintball equipment fits well with the spiritual armor we see in scripture and is much safer than the real military. We also use it because it is an activity that excites the hearts of youth today. Again, we will be using paintball as a real life illustration to bring a reality and understanding to spiritual issues. Please understand that we do not use paintball as just a fun activity, (nor is this camp based on it), but as a major extractive learning tool.

The COST / APPLICATION PROCESS

The Cost: (see insert for details) The cost covers room and board for 8 days at the camp, access to

life changing challenges and experiences along with all your equipment and paint needed to engage in the camp’s teaching scenarios using the sport of paintball.

also means there is a limited number of campers - we can take 16 students in all. Applicants must apply and be accepted to attend this camp. Acceptance is based on the information gained by the application process in this packet and the applicant’s passion and desire to further develop their character as a leader and their faith in Jesus Christ.
