P/N 405030_05 2014 Nordson CorporationLV 227Edition 06/14
General InformationThe LV 227 applicator has been specially developed for the application ofwater‐based cold glue (adhesives). It is particularly suited to intermittentapplication of adhesive. A special seal allows the applicator to be used withadhesive pressure up to 42 bar. The knurled screw on the top section of theapplicator is used to adjust the stem stroke during operation, enabling theadhesive quantity to be precisely adapted to the respective requirements.
Air is applied to both sides of the working piston. A pressure spring causes anozzle stem to close the nozzle even if the control air is switched off, e.g.during a system shutdown. The spring is equipped to operate with anadhesive pressure of up to approx. 42 bar.
Control air is generally triggered by the flanged electrical solenoid valve with24 VDC, 110 VAC or 240 VAC.
FunctioningWhen the flanged electrical solenoid valve is opened by triggering itelectrically, control air is applied via the solenoid valve to the air piston in thecontrol module and the nozzle is opened by raising the nozzle stem. Theelectrical solenoid valve is closed with the aid of compressed air as well aswith a closing spring.
Intermittent Adhesive ApplicationAdhesive can be applied intermittently or continuously. The solenoid valvetransmits the control pulses to the control module air piston. The control airpressure must be adapted to the applied switching frequency. Even fiveintermissions per second mean that this pressure must be 6 bar.

Disassembling an Applicator
Disassembling in the Case of Solidified Adhesive
Do not disassemble an applicator in which adhesive has solidified! Thiswould most likely destroy sensitive components.
We recommend immersing the adhesive gun, without the solenoid valve, inwarm water for 1 - 2 days to soften the glue. Repeat the process severaltimes, if necessary. If the applicator still cannot be disassembled, return it tous for repair.
Disassembling in the Case of Soft Adhesive
NOTE: Interrupt the control air.
Detach the solenoid valve and material nozzle
Purge the applicator through the material connection with warm water
until the water flows out free of adhesive residue.
NOTE: Disassemble the individual components with extreme caution!
Extract the sealing screw by turning to the left with a screwdriver that fits
properly.
NOTE: The sealing screw and body can be easily damaged if an unsuitabletool is used or the screw is turned in the wrong direction.
Check all parts for damage or wear after disassembling, particularly the
sealing elements.
Cleaning and Assembling ApplicatorsAll of the parts must be carefully cleaned with water or a mild vinegar solutionbefore assembling.
NOTE: When a used material nozzle is reinstalled, it must first be thoroughlypurged with cleaning agent to ensure that no material residue remains in thenozzle.
The shaft of the nozzle stem must also be free of any residual particles. If thestems are not thoroughly cleaned, leakage will occur immediately.

Solenoid valve connection Connecting cable OD 6 - 8 mm
Solenoid valve voltage4 24 VDC / 5,4 W, 110 VAC or240 VAC
IP class IP 65
Minimal uptime5 5 ms
Minimum downtime5 8.5 ms
Permitted ambient temperature 10 to 50 °C (50 to 122 °F)
NOTE: 1 Max. system pressure. Safe maximum system pressure.
NOTE: 2 Working material pressure. Minimum and maximum workingmaterial pressure at which proper operation is ensured (depends on thematerial viscosity).
NOTE: 3 When the material viscosity is > 5000 cps, it is advisable to use anadhesive pump with continuous flow.
ATTENTION: 4 Risk of damage! Do not use switching accelerators thatshorten the solenoid valve switching times with a brief surge impulse. Triggerthe solenoid valve only with voltage of 24 VDC, 110 VAC or 120 VAC. Highervoltage (e.g. voltage peaks) will damage the solenoid valves.
NOTE: 5 The time is heavily dependent on the adhesive and only serves as aguideline value. The minimum uptime is related to the bead length, theminimum downtime to the distance between two beads (the stitch).
