INTRODUCTION

Computer is a device to process data. And to be able to function well, the elements-elements should also work well. The elements are the hardware, software and brainware (human / operator). While the hardware itself consists of several types such as input device, output device, storage devices, CPU (central processing) and peripherals. Which will be discussed in this chapter is about peripherals.

Computer peripherals are additional computer equipment needed for the other purposes. For example, network connection,

printing, or take pictures. Peripheral include Printer, Scanner, Modem, Network Card, and others. Installing peripherals include physical

installation and the installation of the software. The physical installation of peripherals with the good and true, and the installation of the

software peripherals include the introduction to the operating system by installing the drivers needed.

Printer is a tool that is used to print the output of the process done by the computer graphics and any posts either directly with the media using the paper or the other.

There are three types of printers. Dot matrik, Ink Jet and Laser Jet.

electronic tool that has similar functions to a photocopy machine. That is to scan pictures and text. But the results will be visible on the screen, not on paper. Scanner will not work on the operating system when there is no driver in it .

Modem

Modem is a computer equipment to connect computer with the telphone lines so that data related to Internet Service Provider (ISP). There are two types of modem, the internal modem and external modem. Internal modem is a modem which is plugged in the motherboard in the form of a card. With the Installation techniques as well as another card in general. While the external modem is can be removed during the time. Because the modem has a drive connector provided such as USB or Serial Port.

This is the following method of installation of some physical peripherals and the software setup. In general, the installation is almost the same among the peripherals. Here are examples of the printer and scanner installation.

•Printer

Step by step physical printer installation :

Plug the printer cable to the printer parallel port connector and the male / plug the USB port on the computer correctly.

Make sure that the printer catridge is installed correctly. Connect the printer to the grid . And make sure there are any activity in the printer (catrigde

move). Until this step the physical installation of peripherals has been completed.

Then install the driver.



In the driver installation, usually in the Windows XP operating system will automatically run the driver installation. The steps is as follows:Enter the default printer driver CD, in this module the printer which is to be installed is Canon BJC-2100 printer. Once the CD is entered, Windows will automatically run the executable file and a dialog box will appear as follows :

Then press the Next, and then will appear like the following dialog box, select the option Printer Driver click Start:

After the copying file is complete, a dialog box will appear as images in addition to this, click Manual Selection.

And after that a dialog box will appear as below. Select the port you want to use. Click Next.

The installation has been completed and the printer is ready for use.

Step by step physical scanner installation :

Plug the cable connector on the scanner USB port on the computer correctly. Enter the Scanner Driver CD, and in this case we will take the example CanoScan 3200/3200F scanner. The next step will select the language used in the installation process.

Then select the software that is installed in this software to retrieve the pictures taken by Scanner .

Once the dialog box appears like the image above and select Install the software, the dialog box will appear as follows

In the dialog box, we can choose which software will be installed and the software will be not installed.Then click the Start instalation button .

After that,follow the confirmation shown. And after the

installation process, Scanner is ready for use.
