Prom 2012 was a blast! With great music, gorgeous decorations and superb company, this night will not be easily forgotten. Our Mystique Masquerade was

truly magical with all attendees adorning their most creative and mysterious masks as the perfect complement to their elegant attire. In such a fun and

entertaining atmosphere, no one, not even Mr. Knobloch, could resist busting out their best dance moves. The following were selected by fellow Stacey students to

the Prom Court:

*********** King & Queen: Fabian Angel & Lauran Williams Senior Court: Jason Berry & Joan Ewing Junior Court: Cory Johnson & Brianna Moton Sophomore Court: Caleb Granstrom & Haylie D’Arrigo Freshman Court: Greg Jefferson & Lexi Suglia *********** Thanks to the junior class for all their hard work in making this night a success!

HELP A STUDENT EARN A SCHOLARSHIP! Gerardo Salgado, a senior at Stacey, is up for a scholarship from State Farm Insurance. If

you go to the following website, you can find him and vote.

[email protected]

There are 50 finalists from the state, and if Gerardo gets enough votes, he could win $10,000.00 for school. You can vote as many times as you want. The school that gets the most votes wins money for the school. To be eligible for the scholarship, Gerardo had to

write an essay, get recommendations from teachers, have at least a 3.5 GPA, and be active in extracurricular activities.

Stacey Roses

- Virginia Allred Stacey, 1997

The beautiful pink roses outside of Stacey's counseling office are in full bloom and look stunning in

2012's early spring. As one walks up to the doors, they are greeted by a pleasant fragrance of rose.

The rosebushes were planted by the class of 2005 in memory of Steffen Taplin. According to Mrs.

Wann, who was the sponsor of the class, Steffen was a former Stacey student who lost his life in an

auto accident in Japan. His class honored his memory with with a rose bed and a plaque.

The second grade classes recently took a field trip to the Institute of Texan Cultures to experience "the Back 40". Students got to experience an old schoolhouse from the 1890s, an adobe house in from West Texas, a military fort building, a barn, and log

cabin. They enjoyed the education trip back in time!

Eleven Stacey Runners Advance to Regional Track Meet At the UIL District Track Meets held across the state in early April, the top four finishers in each event advance to the next meet. For those runners who do not place in the top four, the track season is unfortunately over for them. The next level of competition for those

who do place is typically a Regional Meet; however, in division 1A (because there are so many schools) that next meet is an Area Track Meet which has the top four finishers from one of the 32 districts in Conference A match up with the top four from finishers another district. In the case of the runners from Stacey, we compete against the best four in each

event from District 30A. The Area 29A vs 30A Track Meet was held this past week in Harper, and from this Area Meet, the top four places continue to advance and go on to participate in the UIL Region 4 Meet which has been held at Judson ISD in San Antonio

since last year. That meet will be held on April 27th and 28th. At the four UIL Regional Meets held across the state, the top two places in each event are selected and advance to pinnacle meet, the UIL State Track Meet that is held in Austin on May 11th and 12th.

Advancing to the Region 4 Track Meet from Stacey are the following athletes with their events and placing at the Area Meet:

GIRLS Breana Thomson 4 X 100m relay (1st place) 4 X 200m relay (1st place) Kadija Fowler 4 X 100m relay (1st place) 4 X 200m relay (1st place) Maya Charles 200m dash (2nd place) 4 X 100m relay (1st place)

The Microscopic World Students in Mrs. Torre’s 6th grade science class get up-close and personal with a hand

lens and common household items. Did you know dog kibble looks like it is “glued”

together? Did you know a penny has lots of scratches on it?

A hand lens is a simple magnification device used to observe the “almost-invisible”

world around us.

FUTURE NEWS ANCHORS The Lackland Elementary SWAT team received a tremendous

honor when news reporter Kristina De Leon of WOAI –

Television visited them on Wednesday to tape a live Eagle Eye

newscast for a “What’s Cool in School” segment. After the

taping, she interviewed news anchor Adrienne Suglia, producer

Andrew Del Vecchio, and Assistant Principal Carlos Perez. She

then posed for pictures with the students. The news anchor also

gave valuable advice to students who want to make journalism

their profession after high school. The news story will air on

WOAI at a later date.

On Friday, April 13, students in Mrs.

Allen’s first grade class dressed up

for “Career Day”. These students

wore clothing that showed what

they wanted to be when they grew

up! It was a great career day

organized by Ms. Zuvia and Ms.

Johnson.

Ms. Kay's class release the butterflies that they watched hatch out of chrysalis (cocoons) learning about the life cycle of insects. They hung around the Lantana

bush flowers in our garden long enough for us to see them drink nectar and

watch them fly.
