Report of the President, Mike Brooke

I sincerely hope everyone is surviving or possibly enjoying the winter. Spring is in the air! Our Club progresses on many levels. The transfer of our finances to the TD Bank is mostly complete. Our GIC is still outstanding and will be transferred and dealt with in June upon its maturation. You will note in the various Directors’ reports that we have had many successful events, activities and improvements. It is noteworthy that, sponsored by the Township of Tiny, we had a very successful Open House. This resulted in nine new memberships that day and six more shortly after. WELCOME new members!

Please note that a General Membership Meeting has been scheduled for April 16 so save the date. In closing, I would like to extend my very grateful THANKS to our hardworking, busy Directors, volunteers and our Club Manager, Vickie. They are the ones responsible for our successful Club.

A Message from The Vice-President, Paul Quick

As vice-president, I have very few defined duties. That gives me more time to

appreciate all the wonderful things that are going on in the Club. Thank you

to all the volunteers who do such an excellent job presenting events like the

Open House, Mardi Gras and the Pancake Supper. We are fortunate indeed

to have so many people help with the set-up, clean up and set-up for the next

event. It is my pleasure to be able to work with all these wonderful people.

Open House from Art to Zumba continued Tiny Seniors’ Club Open House: The Place

The Open House at Georgian Shores Swinging Seniors Club on Thursday, February 20th, was a great success. The Project Coordinator, Aaron Dubeau, stated, “This comes as no surprise since the board members and volunteers were very enthusiastic, hardworking and great to work with”. The Township of Tiny was thrilled to create such a wonderful partnership with the Club to pull off the event. “If it were not for the commitment of these individuals, we would not have been able to put on such a grand and unique event for seniors,” said Dubeau. There was no shortage of food as the Township provided a variety of tasty snacks. The Place kept everyone cozy with an endless supply of tea and coffee. Activities also happened throughout the event such as massage, games, billiards, bridge, and bid euchre which gave guests a first-hand experience of what it’s like to be a member. Upcoming events include an Open House at Le Club d'Age

d'Or on March 18th from 2-4pm and the Senior Symposium on April 1st.

Mardi Gras, also know as Fat Tuesday, is the "anything goes" celebration before the 40 days of fasting for Lent. Its history dates back to Medieval Europe and has developed into a world-wide celebration.

Social Report and Upcoming Events, Marianne Clayton

The reason we have a Social Committee is to keep our membership engaged, happy and social and I think our February and March agenda has achieved our goals. The Mardi Gras Dinner/Dance on February 22 was a lot of fun with great food. Thanks to Chef John Bowles and his sous-chefs Paul Quick and Bruce Clayton the meal of Jambalaya, corn bread and bourbon bread pudding was spectacular. Decorations by

Anna Willett and Leigh Wallace and great music by D.J. Mike Brooke topped the evening.

Three days later the Social Committee put on a Shrove Tuesday Supper for 70 people. Again, chefs John Stibler, Helmut Paddags and Mike Brooke did their magic and served up a splendid pancake and sausage dinner.

On March 19 the Tiny Stitchers sponsored a meat and vegetarian chili luncheon for $2 a person while offering a meat roll draw and a sale of crafts made by the Stitchers. Up and coming events April 4 – Elvis is Back Dance. Don’t hesitate to get your tickets

for this very popular event. Tickets are going very quickly! Elvis impersonator Terry Chishom will sing and entertain us. The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the dance will commence at 7 p.m. Light snacks will be served. Tickets are $20 for members and $25 for non-members. Contact Vickie at the Office to get your tickets.

April 16 – General Meeting. The Board of the GSSS will report to the membership on the state of the Club. Start time is 10 a.m. Lunch to follow the meeting.

Programs and Activities Report, Pat Simmons

Our Open House held on February 20th was a great success. About 100 people attended with 48 being guests. The guests got a chance to tour our wonderful facility. Our existing members got a chance to investigate all the activities we offer and talk to the conveners to get questions answered.

We had billiards going on downstairs and an art display plus bridge and euchre in the back room. Chef John was in the kitchen talking to those interested in his cooking class. Conveners for the other activities were set up in the main hall and had lots of people stop by their tables. A Cafe' was set up for all to enjoy a tea or coffee and some wonderful finger food provided by Tiny Township. We had 9 new members join the club that day. They received 5 free weeks and a small gift with their new membership. Our loyal GSSS members that attended entered a draw for a free membership renewal and the winner was John Bowles. You can try a new activity for free the first time to see if it is right for you? (Excludes Lunch and a Movie, Travel the World and Dances) Many thanks to Tiny Township for encouraging us to have the open house and for providing the food, advertising and help with the parking. A big thank you to the Board Members, Conveners and Volunteers that helped to make this event so successful. From set-up to clean-up our volunteers are the best.

The Swan is “up” on a pole.

Camera Club in Focus, Mike Brooke

It was great to see everyone in February. We talked a

bit about using the “flip” screen on a camera and then

reviewed our “Up” photos. This subject generated

some interesting photos and interesting

interpretations of “up”, including pics “up the street”

etc. Additional settings on our cameras were

discussed, obviously a topic that requires further data

and discussion. After watching a couple of videos

about tips for taking group photos, it was agreed that

that would be the subject for our March meeting.

The Camera Club meets the second Wednesday of

the month at 2 p.m. For further information, call or
