Is SPRING ever going to get here? I don’t know about you guys but I have cabinfever. I want to get out there and do some prospecting if the weather would co-operate. But with this kind of spring, you need to be very careful when you do goout. The rivers and streams are very high and swift. The ground is saturated, slip-pery and muddy. This makes it very easy to slip, slide and fall when you’re walk-ing around, not to mention your vehicles. SO BE VERY CAREFUL!
I would like to give a big THANK YOU to everyone who helped at the Rock Show.I think it was a success. We signed up 5 new members that I know of and soldquite a few bags of sand. We may be changing things a little next year, but moreabout that later.
Topaz Mountain trip is April 24, Easter Weekend. Let Donale or Leo know if youplan to show up. There will be a pot-luck Saturday night so bring something youcan prepare easily and share. The Richan’s will have a big pot of barbeque so planaround that.
Bruce Smith is the speaker this month, he will be talking about basic metal detect-ing. It should be interesting.

David Linton is the NUPA Librarian and he has come up with a way to see what’s in the
library! Simply go to http://www.xmission.com/~lintond/ and click on any of the four
choices to view. They are:
Nonfiction - DVD Movie
Nonfiction - On DVD in PDF Format
Fiction - Softbound Book
Nonfiction - Softbound Book
He’s got great visions and ideas for the library, and we need to support him. If you
have any books, VHS tapes, or DVDs that you’ve had of the club’s, please, please re-
turn them so the rest of us can enjoy them and learn from them also!

Have you ever gone out on a prospecting expedition, found a good spot you thought
would be great to get back to, only, you don’t get back out there as soon as you’d likeand now you find out that the old memory banks in your head aren’t what they usedto be? Join the crowd! A simple way to avoid this problem is to start a prospector’slog. The log can be customized to your own needs and expectations. For example, you could list such things as your initial thoughts of the area...did it look promising orwere you skeptical? Here’s a list of what I think would be good to include in your log…
Date
Name of site/claim
LocationDirections to get there (GPS coordinates would be a big help)
Accessibility (what were the roads like, were there any camping sites near)
Water conditions (any water at all, slow, deep, shallow, fast…)
Weather conditions (at that date, could change daily, and probably will)
Days worked/Hours worked
Method of Mining (panning, sluice, dredge, dry washer, high banker, or anythingelse you have)
Description of material/oreDescription of gold recovered (flour, flake, nugget, specimen, and list what elseyou found)
Weight/volume of gold found
Geographical Description of site (anything that might help you when you decide totry that spot again)
Drawing or sketch (this is great if you got different types of gold in this basic samearea)
Notes (this could be great if you find out you could have used a particular tool
that’s back at home!)
When you come up with what works for you, getting back to that desired spot and be-ing prepared can make all the difference in your journey for color in the pan!

Dave Linton is starting a collection box at the meetings for
“Stamps For Cancer”. All you need to do is tear off the
stamps you get on your mail and bring them in. (Don’t worry
about tearing them too close, he says, because they pay per
pound for the stamps!) This means when you get that birthdaycard, Mom’s day, Dad’s day, anni-
versary card, Christmas card,
cheer-up card, any letter or card, (even a Newsletter)...just
tear off the stamp and bring it in! This is another way we
can help the fight against cancer!
