    WHAT'S ONMUSIC AND DANCE

  • WELCOME

Welcome to our Summer Guide – the season to catch our future stars of music, dance and musical theatre on the cusp of their professional careers, as all our departments showcase their skills and talents across a wide range of performances.

Our Music Faculty performances start in earnest with a Side by Side Symphony Orchestra concert with Welsh National Opera, followed by a concert series devoted to Debussy and the New Lights piano festival. Don’t miss our annual Symphony Orchestra concert at Cadogan Hall, this year conducted by Jessica Cottis and featuring Soloists’ Competition winner Helena Švigelj performing Elgar’s Cello Concerto in E minor.

Transitions Dance Company present the finale of their international tour at Laban Theatre with a triple bill by choreographers Richard Chappell (UK), Jarkko Partanen (Finland) and Hagit Yakira (Israel) while second year undergraduates perform significant works by major choreographers Merce Cunningham, José Limón, Wayne McGregor and Uday Shankar in Dance Legends Historical Project. Summer is also a great opportunity to see dance performances from across the Faculty, including site-specific works and exciting new choreography.

Trinity Laban Opera takes to the stage at Stratford Circus with Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, a powerful and thought-provoking piece not to be missed.

Trinity Laban Musical Theatre presents Betty Blue Eyes and Crazy for You, also at Stratford Circus – both shows are theatrical treats featuring great music, dance and staging and promise to be superb nights out.

Summer also heralds our Summer Schools, where we welcome people from all over the world for a taster of Trinity Laban life. We’re also out and about at events including the Horniman Museum and Gardens Shared World Festival, sharing our work with our wider community. Come and join us – I look forward to seeing you!

Learning to understand the fundamental building blocks of a wide variety of musical styles on the composition course opened a wealth of possibilities for me. My time at Trinity Laban gave birth to my dream of wanting to be a creative musician. The opportunity to put together and perform with my first ensemble in the Peacock Room is a moment I will never forget.

I was fortunate enough to work with some great and influential people at Trinity Laban who helped shape my career and the decisions I made after graduating. I felt that my technical and academic training enhanced my versatility as an artist, working with an inspiring faculty in world-class facilities.

Ayanna is performing as part of the Go Cello! Festival, at the Cutty Sark on 13 April (see page 4 for more details).

See a new work choreographed by Joss for BA3 Commissioned Works (part 2) at the Laban Theatre on 5 & 6 July (see page 15 for more details).
