Dear St. Paul of the Cross Parishioners, More than ever, we need Easter now. With fear and uncertainty hanging over us, we need the assurance of the Risen Christ Who has conquered sin and death. More than ever, we need the assurance of life when so many of our fellow Americans are falling victim to this dangerous virus. More than ever, we need the hope and joy that Easter brings because a heavy pall of darkness and sadness envelopes us. Even though we may not be able to celebrate Easter in the way we usually do, let us celebrate it in our hearts and our homes. Let us visit the Empty Tomb with the holy women that we may witness the signs of Jesus’ resurrection. Let us hold on to the Risen Lord just like Mary Magdalene until we recognize Him as Teacher. Let us accompany the two disillusioned disciples on the road to Emmaus so that He may open our eyes at the Breaking of the Bread. Let us profess our undying love for Him just as Peter did on the shores of Lake Galilee. Let this Easter become real and alive. I will be praying for each and every one of you during my Easter Mass. I know you cannot be with us physically but you will be present spiritually. I will pray that just like Paul, the apostle, we will feel in our bodies and spirits the resurrection of Christ. Paul, who had not met the historical Jesus in the same way as did the other apostles, proclaimed the Risen Christ more powerfully than anyone else. This Easter may we all imitate this great apostle who passionately loved the Master. Just like him, we will then be able to voice the words that he wrote in his Letter to the Romans:
If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any
charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right
hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
As I am wishing you the blessings of this Holy Day, I am also making an appeal to you. We are in need of your financial support. In our budget we hope to receive $ 80,000 for Easter and we do not know how we will reach this target. We have to pay our bills, support our staff and maintain our buildings. We need you. If you already are an online donor, we thank you! If not, it is now easier than ever to sign up. You can visit our website www.spc-church.org and select the “Donate” tab on the right side of the screen. This will take you to our online giving page. Or, using your mobile phone, you can TEXT TO DONATE! Just text the word “Donate” to this number: 847-865-8370. This will take you to a link to Give Central. You will then be prompted to input your donor info. It is safe, secure and easy. Alternatively, please also consider mailing your donation directly to: St. Paul of the Cross Church, 320 S. Washington Ave, Park Ridge, Il 60068. I thank you sincerely. I am praying for you and for your entire family. May God keep us safe and bring us back to our church to celebrate the Eucharist as a community! Yours warmly,

2020 Lenten Almsgiving You can make a big difference by helping the Purépecha indigenous community in Mecca,
CA build a church.
Conchita Pozar is a mother of two girls, community activist and a Purépecha leader. Conchita shown in the photo above dressed in her traditional, colorful garb. She has lived in the North Shore community for over seven years. She is committed to making her neighborhood/community a better place by advocating for ad-ditional streetlights, creating a neighborhood playground and the health risks resulting from the shrinking Salton Sea. She has been advocating for the state and federal governments to address drying conditions at the nearby Salton Sea, the largest lake in California. The lake is 230 feet below sea level, and it is becoming drier and drier. Critical fish and migratory birds are becoming decimated. The Salton Sea has been the place where seagulls have navigated. Conchita is concerned for these seagulls. Conchita wants to pass on a healthy world to her daughters. With all of her challenges and the poverty, which is endemic to her life, she cares about nature and the seagulls. She is now trying to preserve and gorw the Catholic faith in her community. She said that thanks to the help of the Sisters of the Missionary Guadalupanas of the Holy Spirit we are starting to realize that we need a Church in this area. “We need a place of God here so we can pray,” Conchita Pozar said.
Thank for your support and generosity!

The Lenten season brings us closer to our faith and living the life Christ modeled. One way to model Christ’s love
and generosity and to become a steward of our church is to make a planned gift to the Educational Endowment.

Chicago filmmaker Lucia Mauro -- winner of Rome's Vatican Film Festival -- will present her award-winning documentary,
Frances Xavier Cabrini: The People's Saint When: TB Time: 9:30 a.m. & 7:30 p.m.
Where: In the Holy Family Chapel
Filmed in Italy and Chicago in 2017
The 100th anniversary year of Mother Cabrini’s passing to eternal life. The film honors the great humanitarian and
Patron Saint of Immigrants, who founded schools, orphanages and hospitals around the world.
She lived and worked in Park Ridge, which is featured in the film together with the Cabrini Retreat Center in Des Plaines. The documentary shows
Mother Cabrini's global reach and highlights individuals living her message today.
Pregnant and parenting moms in need are in our parishes and our neighborhoods. As Pope Francis reminds us, our parishes need to be “islands of mercy in the midst of a sea of indifference.” Everyone in the St. Paul of the Cross parish community should know where
to refer a pregnant woman in need.
Beginning March 25, 2020, the Church will celebrate the 25th anniversary year of the prophetic papal encyclical Evangelium
vitae (The Gospel of Life). This document, written by Pope St. John Paul II, reaffirmed the Church’s constant teaching on the value and
Inviolability of every human life.
This anniversary year gives us a wonderful opportunity to assess, expand, and communicate resources to pregnant moms and families in need. St. Paul of
the Cross is joining a nationwide effort from March 25, 2020 (The Feast of the Annunciation) to March 25, 2021,
entitled: “Walking with Moms in Need: A Year of Service.” We invite all parishioners to join us as we embark on the Year of Service.
Please watch the bulletin for upcoming events.

Can You Share One Hour With Our Lord?
Please contact Vince Ross [email protected] or (847) 692-7565
Open Hours in need of a committed Adorer ~Friday 8am & Saturday 5pm~
If you choose an hour which al-ready has one Committed
Adorer, this enables the Committed
Adorers for that hour to have some flexibility,
if they are unable to be at the Chapel for their hour.
HE HAS RISEN
After clearing out the merchants in the Temple, the Jews asked Jesus, “What sign can you show us that you should act like this?” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this Temple, and in three days I will raise it up” (Jn 2:19). He was speaking of the Temple that was His Body.
After His Resurrection, His disciples remembered that He had said this. The Resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday gave us the opportunity for our Salvation, our spiritual immortality. It is celebrated in Joy because Jesus died for our sins and gave us the cleansing comfort of forgiveness and the strength and purpose to resist the ways of the world. When Jesus’ heart was pierced with a lance, blood and water flowed----the blood represents the gift of the Eucharist, the water is the gift of Baptism (Rev. John Mary MFVA). This Temple, as Jesus called His Body, is the source of all graces for our sanctification. The Resurrection of Jesus proved that He is the Son of God, the second Person of the Blessed Trinity. It changed the world forever. It put behind us the darkness of sin and gave us Hope and a New Beginning. It started the growth of Christianity. It was the beginning of God bestowing His trust on man, through Jesus, who eventually handed to us the responsibility of sharing His message with “all nations.” It is up to us to nurture what the Resurrection did for mankind. Visiting our Adoration Chapel helps us to develop an intimate relationship with Jesus and a desire to share the Blessings He bestows on us with others. It is the venue that brings out His love in us to be an example that can change the lives of others.
NOTICE TO CHAPEL ADORERS Presently, the Adoration Chapel committee is unable to communicate alerts to adorers on an immediate basis. We only have the e-mail addresses for a few adorers. In order to have a timely, reliable and efficient system that enables us to relay information and alerts (snow closures, etc.) immediately, we are asking all adorers to provide to us their e-mail address which will be used only for Chapel communications. Please submit to Vince Ross [email protected]
