fruit. We thought about taking it out and giving up on having fresh oranges, but then one year it bore some oranges of full size. Consistently each year its production in-creased, until now the tree is loaded with some of the juiciest, sweetest, best tasting,
oranges you have ever had. These orange slices are the rich reward of the promise that the aroma of spring brings. So, consider the
story of the orange tree as a lesson in pa-
tience. When the time is fully come, the beauty and bounty of what is longed for will arrive. And because an extravagantly generous God is the creator of all things seen and unseen, when it comes, it will be exceedingly, abundantly, beyond all that can be asked for or imagined. This is the

As I stepped into the morning stillness of this new day my nose was greeted with the wonderful aroma of orange blossoms mingling with the sweetness of grapefruit blossoms. When the air is still, these fragrances perme-ate our yard from our trees which have been prolific with fruit bearing these last years. Both an orange and a grapefruit tree were planted when the house was new. The grapefruit tree started its fruit bearing cycles early in its life, but the orange tree remained unproduc-tive. Year after year we came to it looking for fruit and finding just a few small and underde-veloped oranges. Finally, we took it out and replaced it with a tree we hoped would match the productivity of our grapefruit tree. But the story seemed to repeat itself. The new orange tree, like the one that had stood in its place before, was full of leaves but little

Meek is Weak? When God’s man recognizes he’s not God (becomes poor in spirit) and repents of his self-sufficiency (mourns), what does Jesus say to him? “Blessed are the meek.” “Hand over the keys,” Jesus says. "I’m taking the wheel, so slide over." As God’s man slides over and lets God take control of his life, he becomes meek.

June 10th Mission Sunday! And potluck. Bike Repair Ministry Three phase support for Giving Children Hope: 1) Tour of warehouse 2) Food Drive 3) Attend a Sat. event to help at GCH ware-house packing backpacks for the “I Got Your Back Program.” About the new Bike Ministry: Our CCC Missions in
Action team is pursuing a bicycle ministry to provide
bikes to those with limited means and unable to sup-
port the expense of a car. A ride-able bike can be
just the alternative to get to and from work for those
who need transportation and lack even a bike. At this
juncture of the ministry, we are gathering a team of
people who have knowledge, skill or interest in simple
bike repair. And people who may have an old, unused
bicycle they’d like to donate. This ministry will collect
used bikes and the Bike Ministry Team members will
perform the necessary repairs to present them to a
partnering organization, who will distribute the bikes
to persons in need. For those interested in this new
venture, please contact Pastor Doug.
The meek man is a tool in the hands of God, the Master Craftsman, who will work powerfully in and through him. A former customer asked the local ex-barber, “Why did you change professions and become a paint-er?” The ex-barber replied, “Because the canvas doesn’t tell me how to make it beauti-ful!” A meek man is the canvas. God is not against a man having power and influence, but He knows the pain that unrestrained power can cause a flawed human being. So...

With the recent addition of our new wor-
ship leader, it seemed appropriate this
month that Member’s Corner be dedicated
to offering our congregation an opportunity
to get to know him, Tyler Thompson.
Hopefully, this interview will help you to feel more
connected to the man who brings us into the pres-
ence of God through worship each Sunday.
Tyler, it’s been a pleasure getting to know you and your family these past few weeks. Tell us about the life stage you’re currently at in your life. Hello CCC! I am certainly in the family stage of life! Liz and I have been married for almost 6 years, and our daughter, Char-lotte, has just turned one. We remember those days too well! But let’s step back a bit. Where were you raised and what was your family life like growing up? I had a great family growing up, raised in a Christian home. My dad, mom, sister, and I lived in Anaheim and then Phoenix, Arizona, for most of my childhood. I was born in Whittier, however, and it was somewhat clear that I would return to California at some point! What point was it, then, that you be-came interested in music? I first became in-
Member’s Corner terested in music as a kid, around 8. My par-ents made me take piano lessons, and I hated them! I grew to love playing, however, and began to think that a career in music was both what I wanted and what God was leading me to. Most kids with musical giftedness have some encouragement. How did your family support your musical interest, were they also musical? I always say that I get my singing voice from my dad and my lungs from my
mom. My dad played the guitar and sang for us as kids, and to this day there are
only a few people that I have seen project their voices better than my mom! She taught me how to use my breath early on! Were there others who
were most influential in your mu-sical development? There are several
people who have been very influential in my musical development. From afar, I grew up wanting to be the next Michael W. Smith. He was the guy that I patterned myself after, as an early musi-
cian. In college at Biola, my voice professor, Dr. William Lock, was highly influential in my life as a mentor and musician. During my Masters Degree at Cal State Fullerton, Dr. Ger-ald Seminatore began to have an influence and he continues to this day. There have also

CCC Welcomes Tyler Thompson! . . . An interview between Tyler Thompson & Teresa Nixon (Church Admin.)
We want to let everyone know of an exciting experience here at CCC that you may not be aware of: our weekly meetings for college aged young adults, previously known as the Network. CCCCollege is just what it sounds, a weekly meeting for people who are either in college, or of that age group. CCCCollege is the next step for those coming out of high school. After all, you graduated and your high school days are over, why should your weekly small group experience end too? We meet every Thursday night with a gathering time at 7:00pm, and a message usually starting at 8:00.
Children’s Ministry Cindy Offringa

The CCCCollege experience is based on Proverbs 27:17 "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another..." We pass the leadership role from person to person each
week, with each person sharing in giv-ing their own lesson. The lesson can be a structured lesson plan that someone has come up with, or simply a discus-sion of what has been weighing on someone’s mind with a roundtable type of discussion. In this way we are given insights to God through the many different experiences of each other. So if you are in college, soon will
be, or know of someone who is, let them know of CCCCollege and come try us out Thursday nights at 7:00, in the Orange door. For questions about CCCCollege contact: Raymond Castillo at:

Child Training Bible CCC Children’s Ministry is constantly looking for ways to help you in your parenting. We recently ran across a wonderful new tool. It’s a kit to convert your Bible into an easy to use reference for you to take your child (or teenager!) directly to the pages of Scripture. You will be ready with The Holy Word of God at your fingertips in the moment you need it!
This Bible is designed for parents and children to seek answers from God’s Word on common sinful problems.
Topics include: disobedience, selfish-ness, anger, complaining, and fear.
The Child Training Bible makes it easy for parents to bring the truth of God’s Word into times of instruction.
For more information, please stop by my office to see a sample or visit www.childtrainingbible.com. We can get a group discount, so talk to me be-fore you order.

been conductors and directors along the way, such as John Alexander, John Williams, and even brief encounters with Placido Domingo! I continue to be encouraged and developed by my supervisors and colleagues at Biola, including Dr. Jeanne Robison and Walt Harrah. Most know that musical talent doesn’t just happen. What did you concentrate on to develop your ability? Using practice time well! You have to learn how to practice well, as a musician. Otherwise, you can be wasting your time, as well as the time of all your colleagues. I have concentrated on a good practice routine and being wise with how I spend my time. The time you’ve invested appears to have paid off. What doors have been opened to advance your career? I have performed with opera companies across the United States, including Los Angeles Opera, Long Beach Opera, Sara-sota Opera, and Toledo Opera. I have taught in a variety of colleges and universities, including Biola University, Fullerton College, and Cypress College. I have been blessed to be in-volved in worship ministries in California and Arizona, includ-ing HOPE Christian Fellowship, Grace EV Free in La Mirada, and others! Wow! Sounds like you have been blessed with a well-rounded career. But we all know what completes any en-deavor. . . what place has God - and does God - play in your music? HE is the King and the object of all our worship! As a believer, I have been called to offer my very life as worship to the Lord. Music is simply another tool we have to bring Him glory. I am blessed to be involved in a wide variety of genres and arenas that can all bring glory to the Lord through music. It’s encouraging to know your heart for God, Tyler. When did you first come to know Him? I became a believer when I was four years old. I remember coming home from church, knowing that I was a sinner, Jesus had died and rose from my sins, and that I wanted to spend eternity with Him (a childlike faith)! My dad prayed with me in our backyard, and I came to know Him as Lord and Savior! Even at such an early age you sensed your need for Him, but why is worship also important to you? It is the function of Creation to bring glory to the Creator! I take great joy in responding to the Lord with worship. If we do not, even the rocks will cry out! I like your understanding that all glory and worship is ultimately directed back to God. This attitude must have shaped your life. How has He moved to mold your heart (life) through the years? God has changed my heart to be focused more on Him and on His people. In recent years es-pecially, God has led me to be much more concerned about seeking His Kingdom first and letting “all these other things” come as they may. Where I used to be concerned about oth-er things first, God has directed my heart towards Himself, my family, and His local church!
In our favor, it appears CCC is now reaping the benefits of your spiritual growth! How was it that your position here came about? Our family was looking for a church in our own city! We had seen the difficulties of connecting with a church body when attending churches that are located a distance away. We wanted to find something right here in our own backyard! I saw the opening that Pastor Doug had posted, and we began to pray for God’s leading. We believe that He made it abundantly clear that He wanted us at CCC! And with the “us” includes your wife Liz. I’ve had a few delightful conversations with her, but tell us more about her. She is a beautiful, passionate, and compassionate woman! She is constantly cheering for the underdog (which is probably why I had a shot with her in the first place) and is willing to put herself in the shoes of another to see where they might be coming from. As a result, she is a very good listener and confidant. She is a good mother to Charlotte and still finds time to be a wedding photographer and modern dancer! I am blessed to have a wife such as her! Knowing that the introduction of a child turns lives up-side-down, how has Charlotte changed your life? Charlotte changed EVERYTHING! I know people always say that, but it’s true. God used Charlotte to change my focus in so many ways and He has given us a great joy through her. She is a blast to be with and I am so blessed to have her call me “Da-da!” I often feel as though I am discovering life all over again through her sweet eyes! With family, church, careers, what does a typical week look like in your life? I teach Monday through Friday at Biola and Fullerton College with flexible hours and will be at CCC

April 22nd is our Newcomer’s Luncheon. Invite someone you meet to attend the luncheon to find out more about CCC.
1. Arrive at church by 10am and join other Hospitality Team members for prayer.
2. Smile!!! 3. Utilize the “10 ft. Rule and Just say ‘Hi’ ” policy. 4. Use the first five minutes after the service to say hello to
someone you don’t know. 5. Say, “Hi, I’m [name]. I’m not sure we’ve met”...to anyone
you don’t know. 6. Use a follow-up question like, “Do you live in the
neighborhood?” 7. Invite someone you don’t know to join you for lunch after
the service. 8. Ask a new acquaintance if they’d like to join you on the patio
for a cup of coffee. 9. Sit towards the middle of the church pews, leaving the ends
free for newcomers. 10. Expect late-comers and welcome them warmly. 11. If you’re not sure if someone is new or not, simply extend your
hand and say, “Good morning, glad you could be here today.”

April 22nd Newcomers Luncheon
April 22nd @ 4pm Membership Class
May 20th (Sun) Ministry Fair
Happy Birthday!!!
Birthday Blessings
P A G E 8
As the bunnies hop, and the eggs are hidden,
Prayerfully your life will be one that’s given,
To the One who gives you breath each day,
And guides your steps though come what may.
For he alone knows what’s best for you,
In the days that follow, He’ll see you through,
So take care, of course, and don’t lose heart.
Cause your Heavenly Father will never depart.

promise of the empty tomb. This is the fruit of Christ’s resurrec-tion from the dead. The aroma of life is in the air. Therefore, take heart. Do not grow weary or worried in waiting, for the day of blessing is coming. Take heart, for even now the faint aroma of that which is to come can be detected by those who stop in the stillness and breathe in deeply from the air that surrounds them.
So breathe, just breathe . . .
But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of Him everywhere. 2 Corinthians 2:14
Monthly Thought:
Relegate troubles to the periphery of your mind, so that
He can be central in your thoughts.
Sarah Young, author of “Jesus Calling”
(continued from p.1—Breath…)
for staff meetings, rehearsals, or any other work / relation-ship time that He leads in! Saturdays are typically a Sab-bath day for me, time to rest and be with the family! In addition to your already full life, what do you like to do for past time (hobbies, interests, sports, etc.)? For hobbies, I like to play basketball, read, play games, and swing-dance with Liz! I like to swim with Charlotte and I also like trying new things, to see what other hobbies I can add to the list! Truly God works all things for the good to those who love Him. Now having directed your steps here, what do you envision during your time at CCC? Growth! For my-self, for my family, and for the church. We are excited to grow together with you and with our King! May He con-form our wills to His and add daily to our number those who are being saved! My prayers are definitely with you on this! Because of having a better understanding of your heart, Tyler, I sense your position here to be a piece of a bigger and more wonderful thing God is doing here at CCC. I believe I can confidently say on behalf of my family and me, as well as our congregation . . . Welcome! Thank you, again, for your willingness to let us know you better. We too look forward to growing and worshipping our Heavenly Father together with you and your family!
