Thanks to those residents who took the time to attend the Annual Homeowners Meeting. We hope you enjoyed the year in review presentation and had your questions about the community answered to your satisfaction. 2015 Board of Director Election Results The main purpose for calling the annual meeting was for the election of Homeowner Representatives to serve on the Board of Directors. Incumbent Rick Weed, has been elected to serve another term representing homeowners on the BackCountry Board of Directors. New Board member Bruce Gibson, was also elected as the second homeowner representative to serve a one-year term for 2015. I would like to thank all those who ran for service on the Board, and thank the residents who took the time to vote. The Board of Directors, including the Declarant appointed members consisting of Jeff Kappes, President; Jeff Donelson, Vice President and Scott Custer, Secretary and Treasurer, and the new directors representing homeowners, held a Board meeting the week following the annual meeting. The Board reviewed some items that may be of interest to residents. The pool maintenance and lifeguard service with Perfect Pools was approved for a two-year period. The lease with Indulge for bar service at Pike’s Pub was renewed for another year. The Board discussed resident requests for more speed humps on their streets. The Board ended up approving the addition of five speed humps in selected areas which will be installed in early summer. The Board approved the agreement with CEM Lake Management who manages the water quality in all of the ponds within BackCountry each year. The underground water line at the swimming pool complex, servicing the spa jets, was repaired by Perfect Pools during the winter months. Stay tuned to the May newsletter for a biography of Perfect Pools and an invitation to meet the new lifeguard staff that will be working at our pool this summer season. The lifeguard agreement allows for four lifeguard staff throughout the day. The HOA has scheduled with Centennial Water to assemble the pump systems that provide irrigation water to the open space and improved parks. Common Area watering will begin around April 15. While most of the open space will receive some watering in the spring, the native grasses in the more established areas will not be watered during the summer months. The HOA has recognized a significant number of dead and dying trees in the common areas. As you may have heard on the local news, there was an uncommon freeze that occurred during November 2014 which effected many trees throughout the Denver area. The early November frost compromised the normal process that trees go through to prepare for the cold winter months. The brown needles seen on the pine trees are evidence of suffering from this freeze. These trees are easy to spot and monitor. Many are scheduled for removal and replacement. Others that are half brown and half green will be left to see how they do. More difficult to ascertain are the deciduous trees that may have suffered. Evidence of freeze damage will not show up for a few months. The HOA is planning on replacing most all of the damaged trees during the spring and summer. You may want to have your landscape company advise you if you have similar freeze related trees in your yard. RSVP, PLEASE! It is helpful to have so many residents RSVP for our upcoming events. This enables us to plan for the right amount of food, treats and gifts for all who attend. Sign up early and do not miss these opportunities. SELLING YOUR HOME? A NOTE FROM HRCA DELEGATE TIM LINDSEYHi Neighbors! This past month we didn’t have any guest speakers as it was the annual meeting of delegates, and that means elections.

The HRCA delegates re-elected Brock Norris and Jeff Suntken to another term as members of the Board of Directors for Highlands Ranch. Congratulations to Brock and Jeff for another term! We will have new updated signs for the Backcountry Wilderness Area’s bike and hiking trails behind our homes. As you may recall, we had new trails built and the new signs will have the updated map. You may have noticed that our logo needs some improvements. From the people I have spoken with, many don’t actually know it’s a bird, or at least what kind of bird. So HRCA staff, along with the BOD, have improved the logo to make the Eagle stand out a bit more. The new logo will be coming out in the next couple of weeks. This month beyond the gates: Easter Egg Hunt, Tennis Adult Showdown Tournament, 9 Health Fair, The Taste of HR (May 1st) and more at www.hrcaonline.org. You can reach me at 303-856-3820 or [email protected].

BACKCOUNTRY BLUEBIRD BOX PROJECTThis spring, with the participation of BackCountry residents, Mary Liguori, Bruce Gibson, Bob McPherson, Chuck Lemons and Woody Haynes’

Cub Scout Pack #730 Den 7, we are adding 15 Blue Bird Boxes to our native greenbelts. Most of them will be placed in the South Rim Wilderness area. Others will be located throughout our community greenbelts. These boxes will be monitored and tracked by our resident volunteers for the Colorado Blue Bird Project. They will be monitoring the birds, keeping track of egg numbers and birth success rates. The box locations were determined with the assistance of Leslie Woolenweber of the Colorado Bluebird Project. They have been numbered and placed on the Audubon Society GPS website recording all pertinent information about the Bluebird families. Please feel free to watch the new neighbors from a distance.
