Dear Madison Families,

Hello Spring! Our Madison School Discount Card Fundraiser is well underway. We hope you’re all enjoying tremendous success in selling cards. This fundraiser is one of the major sources of funding for all the amazing things we do at Madison throughout the year. The bonus is sharing so many wonderful deals and discounts with family and friends! The card certainly pays for itself after only a couple of uses.

We would like to give a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to our incredibly hard working, talented, and totally awesome third grade class for another successful Living History Museum. Their time and effort make Living History Museum a fun and educational experience for all who attend.

April is another busy month at Madison School. Two of our favorite activities are Special Person’s Day(s) and the Spring Buy One Get One Scholastic Book Fair! I encourage everyone to shop the book fair for all of the amazing deals. This is a wonderful opportunity to stock up on gifts for birthdays, holidays, or perhaps in celebration of another great report card.

The next meeting is Thursday, April 23rd at 9:00 a.m. in the Computer Lab. We’ll be discussing the many exciting end of the year activities to come; including our End-of-the-Year Picnic. Hope to see you there!

Raquel Piazza

Madison PTA President

Monday, April 13 - Friday, April 17 Open Daily from 8:30—12:00 & 1:00—3:30

ALL BOOKS & SUPPLIES ARE BOGO!! Helping at the Book Fair is the easiest way to volunteer your time for the PTA, meet other parents, and help your child’s classroom make wish lists. The shifts are 2 hours and you’ll also earn a gift certificate to use at the book fair in return for your time. Several shifts are simply helping the students make wish lists to take home (younger students need help writing their lists). You can sign up to help with your child’s classroom visit to the Book Fair by following the directions below.

Welcome to April,

We have many exciting things happening this month. It is hard to believe we are into the fourth and final quarter of our school year.

PBIS team: thanks for hosting another sprit day in western wear. We raised nearly 75 dollars for our Star Store. Thanks to everyone for contributing to the cause. Our April day is scheduled to be Beach Day (let's hope our weather cooperates).

Cool 2b kind bracelet exchange: this program in cooperation with State Farm, Hy-Vee, and Refreshment Services Pepsi has awarded a student, Hailey Booth, some prizes and her third grade class a pizza party for being randomly drawn as the monthly winner. Congratulations.

Thanks to our third grade students, teachers, and families for hosting the annual living history museum for the school and our community. We anticipate a great crowd showing to see our visitors from throughout history making their special appearance.

Congratulations 3rd grade students on completing the first round of PARCC testing, also known as the Performance Based Assessment. The End of the Year version will be the first week in May. They will also complete the final MAP testing in the third week of April. Good luck to our third grade students and staff as they complete these tests.

Our Kindergarten Roundup occurs in April and is an exciting time for us to host future Madison Stars. This occurs throughout our district on April 10th. If you know of any prospective students please direct them our way.

A Spring Common Core Family Night will occur on Tuesday April 14th from 6:30 -7:30 with math games, snack, and books! A special invitation will be sent out right after you return from Spring Break.

Enjoy your break as we begin the month with a five day break before we approach the final stretch of the school year.

Be a STAR!

All classrooms had presentations on proper dental care. If your child did not tell you about this lesson, be sure to ask them about Mr. Chompers and his big toothbrush! Poison prevention was discussed during library time with poison look-alike displays. Please be careful to never leave medicine or a pill laying out as many medicines look just like a type of candy! Ask your children if they could tell the difference!!

A reminder that all Kindergarten and Second graders need to have a dental exam completed and the exam form turned in to the School Nurse by May 15, 2015 according to Illinois law. A red notice has been sent home with your child if this requirement is still needed.

All of our first grade students will be receiving a free bicycle helmet the first week of April which is courtesy of Safe Kids Adams County through a grant from the Kohl’s Care Program. This grant is possible from the sales of those special $5 books and stuffed animals sold as you enter Kohl’s stores. (This is just one proof that the Kohl’s money really does benefit the children in our community.) Bicycle helmets given to first graders are fitted for each child at school. Please encourage your child to always wear the helmet when not only riding bicycles, but also when riding scooters, skating, rollerblading, and skate boarding. Let’s keep their growing brains protected!!

March is over and here comes April, meaning warmer weather is just around the corner! Make sure to encourage your kids to put down the electronics and get outside to play. Walks are great exercise and a way to spend quality time with your kids. We have had a very busy and exciting March in PE. We have introduced new throwing games, had our tennis unit with Mark Schuering, filled out our March Madness brackets as a class, and the 3rd grade was visited by multiple Olympic medal winner Jackie Joyner-Kersee who spoke about the importance of overall health. Looking forward to April!

Participating Product Lists: www.boxtops4education.com www.projectaplus.tyson.com

The time to start saving for 500 Club is now! If your child can collect 500 labels by October 1, 2015, he/she will receive a McDonald’s happy meal in the park with Mr. Sohn! Please hold all labels at home

until next school year. Take some time to look below and educate yourself on the labels that we collect. Place them in a plastic bag with your child’s name and teacher’s name on it.

Please sort them into types of labels. Thank you!

These are the final classroom counts for the year! If your child’s class has collected 2000 labels, they earn a pajama movie party. If they have collected 3000 labels, they earn a pizza party. Class totals are as follows:

It only takes a little time to save these labels and it makes a HUGE difference for our school. If every child at Madison School brought in just 100 box tops this year, we would have almost $4,000 for our school to spend. WOW! Ask your family and friends to help you collect.

Please contact me at [email protected] if you have questions.

Each child that turns in 500 labels in the fall earns a McDonald’s Picnic Lunch in the Park with Mr. Sohn! These labels must be saved and turned in at one time. If this is your goal, please keep your labels at home and turn them at the beginning of the 2015-2016 School Year. Please note: Campbell’s Labels for Education will not count toward your total.

What is the 500 Club?

Due to changes in the program, we no longer collect Campbell’s Labels.
