Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back. This is a short half term, but a busy one! I’m delighted to inform you that we have been approached by the Department of Education to share our teacher recruitment process and how it resulted in our fantastic Ofsted report and achieving above national standards. This is all the more commendable at a time when there is a national crisis in teacher recruitment and retention. As you will know, we do have an amazing teaching team who are supported by a very skilled leadership team. As a school we do attract high calibre graduates who are dedicated and committed to enriching the lives of your children. While the team from the department is with us they will be doing an in depth analysis for government ministers. They will want to know about the diverse community we serve. They will evaluate the quality of teaching and talk to children, teachers and the leadership team. This is clearly a very exciting time for Grange Primary. It’s great that we can now showcase the things we do so well. It’s wonderful to think that Grange Primary is now influencing Government thinking.
End of year assessments Staff in all year groups are working incredibly hard to ensure that all children meet their end of year expectations. The new curriculum is so much more demanding for everyone. The higher up the school we go the more our teachers have to plug the academic gaps that were not part of the previous curriculum. We are very grateful that you as parents are supporting us through additional Home Learning. This clearly does make a difference as we recently

VALUE OF THE MONTH
‘FORGIVENESS’
“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of
the strong.”
Mahatma Gandhi
discovered when we compared our assessment with other Harrow Schools. It is really important that we also receive your support with attendance and punctuality. If children are persistently late or absent they are not being provided with the same opportunities to do as well as their peers.
Welbeck Road The school has received guidance from the National Police Chiefs’ Council regarding recent international security alerts and we have been looking at ways to make sure our school is as safe as possible. They have advised that a number of measures should be put in place to ensure that your children and our staff are secure at Grange. They have identified that having two routes into the school makes us vulnerable. There should only be one entrance for the school. As a result, Governors have made the recommendation that at the beginning and end of the school day Welbeck Road will be closed and we only use the Furness Road entrance.
After half term, from Monday 6th June, parents will only be able to drop their children off at the Furness Road entrance – Welbeck Road gates will not be open to parents between 8.30am and 8.45am. Please only use the Furness Road entrance. The soft start will remain for parents of children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, who are very welcome to settle their children in class as normal. Parents of children in Years 3 to 6 are asked not to enter the school but to speak to staff at the end of the day. We will review these procedures after a few weeks to see how effective they have been. For parents whose children are in Nightingale Class, they can be collected from the corner of the playground outside the old library.
Wishing you all a good Bank Holiday Weekend.
Sport Relief One Mile Event
On Friday 18th March,
every child from
Grange Primary
School took part in a
Sport Relief Mile to raise money
for disadvantaged children in
the UK and across the world.
All children and adults paid £1 to
come to school dressed in red
clothing or sportswear and we
used our playground as the
running track for this event.
The children had to run around
it a whopping 8 TIMES in order
to complete a full mile! The
Year 6 children supported the
Reception classes and motivated
them to continue running, even
when they felt they had no
energy left. In addition to the £1
donation, children and staff also
raised money through
sponsorship for their mile run.
We raised a fantastic £975.00!
Well done Grange!

Year 1 visit to Windsor Castle
Year 1 had a wonderful time when they visited Windsor Castle recently. The children were so impressed with the visit and the castle that Beckham Class are writing letters to Her Majesty the Queen
to say thank you and to wish Her Majesty a happy 90th birthday. Many thanks to our parent and carers who volunteered to support this visit.
