Member CRITIQUE: April 5th
Jim Garrison is leading our critique. All members &
guests are invited to participate with work and suggestions for the work. Please join us! Critique begins promptly at 5:45 pm and runs to 6:45 pm prior to the General meeting. Paintings
and drawings do not need to be framed. Unfinished pieces are welcome for suggestions to finish them. Those members arriving with work after 6:15 risk not having their work critiqued depending on volume of work brought in earlier.
1 painting only per person please.
Participants in the critique please do not bring paintings freshly wet, oils particularly, as the paint gets on our hands and clothes from handling the pieces and then paint is transferred to other works and the carpet in the critique area. If you have a frame to put the painting in for handling purposes that will be appreciated. Thanks from the critique leaders.

President’s Corner
Dear Members, Friends and Art Lovers,
The Scottsdale Artists League is definitely
on a roll. Attendance at both the February and
March General Meetings was over 80 and we’re
signing up new members every month. The entries
in the recent Artist-of-the-Month competitions have
become much more varied, featuring sculptures
and contemporary paintings in a variety of media
in addition to the traditional oils, acrylics and
watercolors. This is a reflection of our growing
membership and our welcoming attitude of
embracing all artists and artisans. It makes us a
much more well-rounded art league.
Our guest artists have been wonderful and
definitely not your traditional painters. Keri
Chartrand prefers to lay out her large canvas on
the floor and pour her thinned acrylic paints onto it,
moving it around, spraying it with water , letting it
drip, and then allowing it to dry overnight and
being surprised by how the colors meandered
around and took on their own form. Nancy Christy-
Moore prefers to start with texture, then pour
acrylic paint and finally pull out her images which
are usually horses. To do this, she paints out the
negative spaces. Both are successful artists who
derive great joy from “playing with paint” to reach a
desired end. This is the joy that most
contemporary artists experience.
Judging by the number of members who
are signed up for the Desert Botanical Garden
Paint- Out, it will be another huge success. It’s our
20th year there. Our Scholarship Fund is destined
to grow immensely after the April 8, 9, and 10th
Sale Weekend. SAL is definitely on a roll.
Creatively yours, Freddie
