HADITH OF THE WEEK
Sahih Muslim Vol 1 - Bk. 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm)
6:2361: Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: When there comes the month of Ramadan, the gates of mercy are opened, and the gates of Hell are locked and the devils are chained,

Dr. Kamaldeen Almubarak Ali, the Chief Imam of Al-Hikmah University, has
advised all Muslims to purify their minds and heart from any bad deed and settle any grudge among their fellow human beings before Ramadan.
The Chief Imam made this admonition in an interview with the information crew on the topic titled “Preparation for Ramadan” in his office on Monday, 29th April, 2019.
He added that Ramadan is a spiritually-inclined month for worship, alms giving, prayer and
Muslims need to prepare adequately for such actions.
Dr. Ali reiterated that Muslims should prepare for Ramadan in advance. According to him, “some of the preparations include, repay the fast missed in the previous Ramadan; put in place foods and drinks that are halal; minimise ones diet before Ramadan in order for the system to get used to it before Ramadan; to have good i n t e n t i o n s b e c a u s e p r o p h e t Mohammed (SAW) pointed out that anything Muslims do would be rewarded based on their intentions; the person to prepare meals for the males should not be haram and a male that is yet to marry can pay a food seller for the duration of 30 days of Ramadan.
Dr. Ali added, “when fasting commences, one should give alms to the less privileged, does more nawafil, buys fruits or cooks food for Muslims to help them break their fast. Apart from not drinking and eating, Muslims
should stay away from looking, listening, saying or touching anything that is haram during fasting because fasting should be done with all part of our body including mouths. Also, Muslims should stay away from anything sugary, spoilt food, too much red meat and over eating during sahoor or iftaar”.
Dr. Ali, therefore, advised Muslims that their good deeds should not be limited to the month of Ramadan alone, it should be a continuous thing because prophet Mohammed (SAW) said the best of ibadah for Muslims is what is continuous.
relevance of Shari᾿ah to the modern
world, to strengthen the intellectual
capacity of the learned participants in
defending Islam; and to educate the
participants on how to refute the
misconceptions surrounding the
teachings of Islam.
Prof. Ibrahim, therefore, urged
the representatives from Ummul Qura
University to take this collaboration as
a starting point for more noble co-

University.
The leader of the delegation,
who is also one of the Imams of the
holy mosque in Makkah, Dr. Abdullahi
Bukhari thanked all the participants for
displaying discipline and maturity
during the course of the workshop.
Dr. Bukhari in his words said
“the Saudis are ready to collaborate
with Al-Hikmah University in terms of
academic, financial and philanthropic
aspect”. He, emphasised that any
communication to that effect should be
channeled through the Saudi Embassy
in Abuja for effective and immediate
response.
Bar r. . Onikos i Ahmeed
Adedeji, one of the participants in an
in t e r ac t ive s e s s ion wi th t he
information crew stated that the
workshop experience was worthwhile.
According to Barr. Onikosi
“the workshop is dynamic, it exposed
the participants to modern trends in
teaching and learning Islamic law. The
importance of Arabic to Islamic law
was also reemphasised with lots of job
opportunities in the sharia. It also
in t roduced the con temporary
technological issues around the globe
and how it can be handled”.
