Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of
Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the
word in Asia. After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to
go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. And they
passing by Mysia came down to Troas. And a vision
appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of
Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into
Macedonia, and help us. ~ Acts 16:6-9 NKJV
Oh, how things have changed. In days gone by, we were
told to “get off that couch and get busy.” Now, we have
orders from the governor of Indiana to “stay in and hunker
down.” In other words, remain on the couch, watch TV, and
do nothing. I have faith in America. We can do this. Let’s
get this one right. Of course, if you are like me, I used to
cherish downtime, but this is too much.
I had more than one person tell me, “It’s probably good
timing for you to injure your knee when you did because
you’re already down.” Maybe so. Even with a good knee, I
wouldn’t be able to visit most places and attend all the
meetings, events, and activities since they have been put on
hold. Praise God we can still have live worship on Sunday
and Wednesday. Praise God we can have online Bible study
by way of Zoom. For those who would like to participate,
there is information elsewhere in this newsletter. Beyond
worship and Bible study I am beginning to fill my time up with
rehab. Yeah! Otherwise I would be going stir-crazy.
It’s not easy to just wait. It’s not easy to let things go that
need done. However, we are in good company because
the Apostle Paul had this experience. Facing a "closed door"
can be extremely frustrating. The apostle Paul knew exactly
how this felt. On his second missionary journey to share the
gospel in Asia, he repeatedly found the way blocked by the
Holy Spirit.
I am of the opinion Paul was up north and wanted to
head south through Ephesus making a big circle by going

through Galatian country, then Phrygia, but the Spirit of God had other plans. We are
told the Holy Spirit forbade him to preach the Word in Asia.
This is amazing, isn’t it? Paul wanted to go there, and the Spirit of God wanted the
word of God given out but the Spirit wanted Paul elsewhere. Paul naturally thought
that if he couldn’t go south, he would go north. Bithynia was in the north by the Black
Sea but the Spirit forbade him to go north. He came from the east. Where should he
go? Well there was only one more direction left and that was west. Paul went west
all the way to Troas. He had to stop there because Troas was on the sea.
I think if we had met Paul while he waited in Troas, we could have asked him,
“Paul, where are you going?” I’m sure his reply would have been, “I don’t know.”
How long was he stuck there? We are not told. What we do know is the apostle was
stuck in Troas with the sea before him and closed doors behind. If this is how you feel
right now, then you have a taste of what Paul experienced. How strange it must have
seemed to Paul that God would prevent him from spreading the gospel. He knew this
wisdom from the book of Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean
not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall
direct thy paths. Instead of getting angry or trying to force his way into new territory,
Paul got on his knees.
We can be sure the apostle did not move until the Lord revealed the entrance to a
new mission field. Christians, in a period of watchful waiting, should view our current
situation as a chance to seek not only God's purpose but also His guidance. This is the
time to ask the Lord why He has barred the way forward. Perhaps the timing is wrong
or we need to deal with unconfessed sin. Whatever the reason, we must be sensitive
to the Spirit's leading. We want to be ready for the door that will open.
This door will reopen for us and we need to be ready. What is it we can be doing
to get ready? I’m sure Paul prayed, ministered, and shared the Word where he was.
We need to be cautious and maintain the precautions. None the less, to be able to
worship together will be wonderful. To be able to visit nursing homes, hospitals, and
other places would encourage many. I guess what I’m saying is we are on hold for a
while. Use this opportunity to recharge and rest. For all of those who have to work,
thank you. Two of my children are working. One in a hospital and the other on a
construction site.
If you do sit on the couch and watch TV, good for you, but remember to also
spend time in prayer. Once this virus has passed, we can once again get busy. Let’s
recharge and continue to be the missional church we are.
Prayer: Father in the name of Jesus Christ, we don’t know how long this crisis will
continue but help us to use this time of waiting to recharge for You. Like Paul let us
know when and how we can serve You better. Amen.
Join us in prayer If you are hospitalized, have a prayer concern, or need to speak with us, please notify Pastor 260-251-1529 or the church office 219-362-3812.
If you would like to be a person who is called, texted, or emailed to pray in urgent situations for others, you may join our Prayer Chain by notifying our church office and letting us know how you prefer to receive prayer requests.

Electronic Giving We truly hope that those who are able will still support our church during this difficult time. We still need to pay the usual monthly utility, staffing, equipment, and property insurance bills. We truly appreciate your help by continuing to send your offerings in support of our church. Donations can be mailed or can be made from a mobile device or computer through a secure site by visiting our church website, doorvillagechurch.org, and clicking the electronic offering button:
Thank You “Dear Door Village Church Family,

Worship Services (Please see Holy Week plans on the next page.)
Join us each Wednesday at 6 pm and Sundays
at 10 am on our Facebook page for live
broadcasts of our worship services. We will not
be gathering at our building as a congregation,
but we will provide worship services on the
internet until we can meet together again in
person. Pastor Bob, Donna, Mitch, and
sometimes musical guests observe social
distancing within the sanctuary while Steve
records and Jane posts to our website. It’s
actually turning out to be a wonderful way to
reach literally thousands of people! We have
scripture, prayer, a brief message, and special
live music. We hope you’ll share this, invite your
friends, and worship with us! Following the live
broadcast, the video is saved on our Facebook
page and a YouTube video of the recorded
broadcast is posted on our website where they
can be viewed at your convenience: (http://www.doorvillagechurch.org/index.html)
Interactive Bible Study We are enjoying Zoom.com live interactive
bible study each Tuesday morning at 9 am.
Please give it a try. It really is simple and a great
way to be in God's word from the comfort of
your own home. If you are interested in
participating, please notify the church office.
We will send you an e-mail link and password so
you can join in. Getting started on Zoom.com is
very simple, safe, and user-friendly. We hope
you will study with us next Tuesday.
Finances Our church treasurer has asked me to remind
you that your contributions are still very much
needed. Even though we are all trying to stay
home and stay safe, Pastor and a few of us are
working behind the scenes to turn this whole
time into positive growth for God's kingdom.
And we still have bills coming in that need to be
paid. Thank you to those who have made
contributions online and to those who have
mailed in contributions through the post
office. The church address is 3502 W. Joliet
Road. Secretary is here working in isolation and
getting the mail from the rural mailbox daily.
Offerings are being recorded in the computer,
and deposits are taken to the bank. Dennis F
and Bob W are keeping the bills paid from
home. We just need to be getting money into
the church accounts to keep making this
possible. Bless you for your understanding and
help with this.
APRIL & HOLY WEEK WORSHIP PLANS We have received instruction from the Bishop that we are not to conduct worship services
with our congregations in our buildings through the month of April. So, we will continue in

plans change. During the month of April, we will continue with our Wednesday and
Sunday online worship services live on Facebook and posted afterward on our
website. For Holy Week, we have a different schedule as follows:

Communion (the Lord’s Supper) is a sacrament given to all believers by Jesus to
remember his sacrifice for us and to symbolize the new covenant. You can participate in
this experience from your home. The elements of bread and wine/juice represent Christ’s
broken body and His shed blood. Communion is not a means of salvation, but there are
people who have accepted Christ during the Communion ceremony; it became an
outward testimony that they believed. Communion is a testament of a believer’s faith in
the atoning work of the cross. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, join us online to
remember His GREAT sacrifice. If you are not in the place where you consider Christ your
Savior, you are still welcome to simply view the service and learn about our Christian
beliefs.
HOW TO TAKE COMMUNION ONLINE
1. Have grape juice/wine or something to drink on hand before worship. God will bless.
2. Have bread, crackers, tortilla, pita, or any bread product on hand. God will bless.
3. Be ready at home with your elements (bread and juice) – Pastor Bob will direct you
through properly receiving communion. All you need to do is follow along online
individually, as a group, or at a later time.
4. Share with us – After receiving communion online, please leave us a response, letting us
know how many in your home participated in receiving communion. Let us know how
special it was to you and those with you.
