Tee ProjectsTodd and Mike McBride, our golf course consultant, have developed plans for the tee projects in progress. As always with such plans, weather will be a factor in the schedule. Here’s the run-down in order of likely occurrence: #5 – Markers will return to the lower tee as soon as the week of April 12th.

#6 – The grass needs a bit more moisture, so the crew will apply straw and start watering this week. Markers will likely appear on the new tee by Women’s Opening Day, April 28.

# 8 and #9 – Progress has been slightly delayed by an equipment breakdown, but, as soon as possible, the surfaces will get a final leveling and seed will be applied. The target date for using these tees is late June-early July.

Happy Spring! I am Kristy Deck, and I am pleased to join the Athens Country Club team as the new Front of House Manager, and Assistant General Man-ager. As most of you know I came here from the Inn and Spa at Ce-dar Falls. As their Front

of House Manager and Event Coordinator, I brought passion, strong work ethic, and lead-ership. I was able to put together a dynamic team that provided excellent customer service and loved their job, thus creating a positive, welcoming environment to all guests.

I look forward to creating that same atmo-sphere here, and to planning great events. I have high hopes for a bright future, of growth and profitability. Although I am new to the Country Club business, I assure you I will work hard, and will approach any challenge with poise, hard work, dedication, and an open mind to new ideas.

We have a lot to look forward to this upcoming season. I cannot wait to help the club grow. Together as a club we can accomplish anything we set our minds to. The restaurant is up and running with a completely new look and atmosphere. We cannot wait to see you.

Here is a little about me:• I grew up in Athens County, in Coolville.• I attended Federal Hocking High School.• Worked in the medical field for 15 years.• Hold a bachelor’s in healthcare management.• Married, with three beautiful bonus children. • I always lead by example.• Favorite motto- Positive Thoughts =

Positive Outcomes. • Favorite Quote- “Nothing is impossible. The

word itself says I’m Possible”- Audrey Hepburn• Hobbies- Spending time with family and

friends. Being outdoors, hiking, playing and watching sports and going to the beach.

ACC welcomes our new chef Alfonso Contrisciani. With a strong love for excellent food, and an even stronger work ethic, it was a no-brainer that Alfonso would one day work his way to the top in the Food

Industry. Today, Alfonso shares his Master Chef Status with only 66 others in the United States. After years of service as Executive Director of Culinary operations at Hocking College, Alfon-so decided it was time to focus on his passion: providing nutrient dense, farm fresh ingredi-ents he was proud to cook with and serve to his friends, family, and community.

Alfonso owns Oliver Farms, located in Thornville, Ohio. Through the farm, Master Chef Alfonso is able to provide local sustainable food for all who wish to have a farm fresh meal.

Alfonso was named “Restaurateur of the Year” by the International Food and Beverage Fo-rum. He has garnered over 75 National and International awards including 36 Gold medals as a member of Tea, USA in the Internation-al Culinary Olympics (1992, 1996, 2000), and has held numerous Vice President and Direc-tor positions in some of the countries leading hotels, restaurants, universities and food ser-vice companies. As Vice President of Culinary Development for Centerplate, Alfonso oversaw several large convention centers in the US and orchestrated multiple presidential dinners in Washington, D.C., including President Obama’s Inaugural Ball.

Alfonso is a member of OEFFA, the American Culinary Federation, World Master Chef Societies, Global Master Chef Society and the International Food and Beverage Forum.

ACC Course Clean-UpA special Thank You to all who volun-teered their time and labor to help clean up the club. We picked up debris, worked bunkers, and ground up stumps to help assist in the early season beautification of the course. The viability of the club could not be done without the persistent work of members like these (and others) throughout the years on the many proj-ects that come up. In my 8 years of doing this, it was the largest turnout I have witnessed and am so thankful and appre-ciative of the support. The ACC grounds crew and myself do greatly appreciate each and every one that helped. If there is anyone that I missed in naming, I am sincerely apologetic.

100 Years Ago...In May 1921, work was underway to build our ACC golf course. While members played on a temporary 6-hole layout that included land to the left of the present #9, Board

member J. H. Cline, owner of Cline’s Pharmacy on Court Street, was working with a crew of men and a team of horses to create many of the tees and greens we play today.

A local landscape architect, Oliver Gutman, assisted Cline. Access to the property was from Jackville Pike, now Radford Road. Members parked their Model Ts on the ground now used for a driving range and began their 6-hole round near the pres-ent #4 tee, hitting uphill toward present #9 green. Golfers had to bring their own lunches and beverages, as groundbreaking for the clubhouse was still months in the future.

Private Lessons with Todd Williams, Head Golf Professional

When spring rolls around and the weather begins to break, we all get that urge to get out on the golf course. Every so often that means we proceed straight to the fairways and the greens hitting like a pro. But for the rest of us, the rust needs to be shaken off. Don’t struggle coming out of the gates! Schedule a lesson (or a few!), and begin this season better than ever. Let’s have a little more fun, while getting better at the same time!

Individual lessons - $50 | Series of six - $250

Pro Shop 1921 Buyer’s ClubPlease support Todd Williams by joining the 1921 Buyer’s Club. He promises to stock the shop with new and attractive merchandise. As in past years, members of the Buyer’s Club will receive a 25% discount off of the marked price on the ticket. This is the same discount as year’s past (cost + shipping + 18%). The fee for the 2021 season is $125. Last year’s members need not sign up, as you will be renewed and billed on April 30.

If you weren’t a member last year and wish to sign up for the Buyer’s Club for 2021, let Todd know. Thank you for supporting your club and participating in the programs offered.

The 1921 Society Wine ClubMembership in the 1921 Society Wine Club is only $100 annually, and it provides reduced prices for wine by the bottle and access to special events. Be sure to have a look at the Wine List to understand the savings offered on each of the Club’s wine selections. Many bottles are $9 - $11 less for wine club members, though some are priced as much as $20 - $50 less. Check out your favorites and consider joining early in the year!

Make an “ace” and collect Pro Shop merchan-dise credit plus “clubhouse cred-it” to treat your golf buddies to a drink! Just sign up in the Pro Shop.

Each time a hole-in-one is made by someone on the list, you will be billed $10. It costs nothing to sign up, only when someone on the list has an ace. The “Acer” receives 40% of the total in clubhouse credit and the remaining 60% in Pro Shop merchandise credit.

You do not have to sign up again once you are on the list. Your name stays on until you ask to have it removed. The list of Hole-in-One members is in the Pro Shop. Check to verify if you have signed up.

If you were on the list in 2020, you are on it in 2021.
