LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, Last week we bid farewell to Deacon Tommy St. Pierre who was both a parishioner, father, husband and deacon in our parish. If you met Tommy you know he always came toward you, usually talking away. He was friendly, compassion-ate and kind. Tommy will be missed. What better time to enter eternal life than the Easter season. May he rest in peace. I again thank all who were a part of the Triduum. Fr. Gerald Burns took photographs of the Triduum, particularly of the Easter Vigil. Some of those photos are now on our parish website. It gives a sense of how blessed we are to have such a large sacramental space, a font that speaks of dying and rising, and a ritual that leads us into the mystery of the Lord’s resurrection. Periodically we mention people doing good work. I’d like to mention three: Alex Landry ,and 8th grader at our School, was recently named 2013 Middle School Student of the Year for the Diocesan School System; Cindy Hartmann was named the Mother Seton Award winner representing our Catholic Elementary School; and Mr. Sam Bordelon, faithful parishioner, who recently died but who continues to do good work. Sam left a significant bequest to our parish for the work of ministry, particularly Social Responsibility and Liturgy. Even after death, Sam’s legacy for the parish is a gift of confidence and hope for our future. Congratulations and thanks to all who have been doing good work among us. Our parish Capital Campaign ,Our Time to Pray, Our Time to Give continues to make progress toward our goal. As of today we have $2,270,494.00 million in pledges, $732,913.00 in cash toward our $3 million goal. With your help we will succeed in our task. I was happy to welcome Bishop Muench to the Parish last week for Confirmation. This coming weekend we will celebrate First Communion. It’s the season of Christian initiation. The marriage enrichment course “Partners on the Journey” continues every two weeks on Sundays. This course is designed to support and improve the bonds of marriage relationship with practical and proven techniques for advancing communication and affection between an husband and wife.

Go to www.stewardshiptoday.org to get your online copy of Stewardship Today, a monthly publication for parishioners to embrace the importance of stewardship in daily living.

I know that the School Play will be held Friday and Saturday on campus. I am also looking forward to the Ministry Appreciation Supper on May 4th! Have a wonderful week. Love,

We extend our sympathy to the following parishioners who recently lost a loved one:

Marty and Thelma Emick on the death of his mother, Effie Mae Utsler.

To the Sheehan family on the death of their loved one, Sonny.

Tommy and Kim Melancon on the death of her mother, Betsy Adamek.

Cindy St. Pierre and family on the death of, Deacon Tommy St. Pierre.

ST JEAN VIANNEY CAPITAL CAMPAIGN “Our Time to Pray, Our Time to Give”

A MATCHING GIFT There are parishioners who work for businesses which will sometimes MATCH a charitable donation to a Church or School. Is your employer one of those people? If so, your gift to the Capital Campaign could be matched. Sometimes, the employer will match a gift to a SCHOOL but not a CHURCH. Regardless of the case, we can help you find out if your employer will match your gift. Talk to Fr. Tom or Debbie Daigle at the parish office, 753.7950 so we can help you help us.

Guide Book & Directory Advertising Opportunity

We are in the process of updating our annual Guide Book & Directory for our Church. This book is being provided at no cost to our Church, including the mailing to each family, and is being subsidized by local businesses that advertise in it. If you own or manage a business and would like to find out about advertising in our book, please call the Church Office at 225.753.7950.

JOSHUA JOHNSON DEACON ORDINATION With praise and thanksgiving to Almighty God, for you, the parishioners of St. Jean Vianney, it gives me great joy to invite you to my ordination to the Sacred Order of Deacon. Since my time spent with you on my placement I have kept you in prayer. Now moving forward towards this final stage in my formation to serve Christ and you His Church, I extend to you the invitation to join me on the day of ordination. Given that you played such an integral role in my journey towards ordination, it would be an honor to have you present at this penultimate moment. My Ordination Mass will be at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Cathedral on 412 North Street in Baton Rouge, La. A reception will follow the Ordination at the Catholic Life Center on 1800 South Acadian Thruway, Baton Rouge, La. Your Servant, Joshua Johnson

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY NEWS

Scotlandville Mobile Food Pantry As you may recall, Together B.R. has identified several areas in our city which are termed “food deserts” due to a lack of a grocery store within a one mile radius of concentrated populations. The mobile food pantry which started last year as a cooperative effort of the Greater B.R. Food Bank and TBR will resume offering fresh produce and other fresh items FREE to people in our community. The pantry distribution site is at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 1620 77th Avenue, and the upcoming dates are April 27th and May11th. If you would like to volunteer to distribute food at the site, please contact Edgar Cage at [email protected]. At least 40 volunteers are needed each date, and will work from 9 am – 1 pm. It is a wonderful opportunity for youth service hours, families, and small Christian community groups.
