NOTES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM STAFF

From Ms. Pohlen …

Dear St. Paul School Families,

After over forty years of teaching, I have learned some valuable lessons…

∗ Patience is truly a virtue. (As a math teacher, count past 10!) ∗ Curiosity keeps one young and will make a life-long learner. ∗ Working with children keeps one grounded, energized, and young at heart. ∗ Choosing a career of teaching in fourth grade was the best decision of my life. ∗ Sometimes kids do know best. (Being able to laugh at one’s mistakes is important!) ∗ If Plan A or Plan B do not work, be prepared for Plan C. (Or even plan D!) ∗ Learning and teaching are a 2-way street. ∗ Choosing a career that becomes a vocation brings passion. ∗ Life is not a whole number. ∗ Children are our future! Children who have perseverance and initiative, kindness and generosity, and

curiosity and goals will ensure the success of our world!

I will be taking all that I have learned as a teacher onto the next stage of my life as I retire from teaching at the end of this school year. It has been an unbelievably short, but rewarding 23-years here at St. Paul. I feel blessed to have chosen a career that I have truly loved! I have cherished working with hundreds of children whose lives I have been privileged to be a part of. I also am appreciative for the supportive and dedicated staff, teachers, principals, and priests with whom I have collaborated.

While I am retiring from full time teaching, the future is open to many possibilities and adventures. I am sure a future pursuit will involve working with children in some respect. Thank you parents for your sup-port over the years. St. Paul is one terrific school thanks to you, the fantastic teachers, and of course the children!

Love and blessings, Mary Pohlen

From Ms. Blonien …

Although it has been a difficult decision to make, I have decided to leave St. Paul School at the end of the school year in order to pursue my licensure as a Reading Specialist and fulfill my long-term career goals. My time here was truly a blessing and I have enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you to the staff members, parents, and students for welcoming me into the St. Paul family. I will miss every one of you and I wish you all the best! Sunshine and smiles, Allyson Blonien

From Mrs. Migliaccio …

I have truly enjoyed the past seven years at St. Paul School as the Administrative Assistant. St. Paul School is truly an amazing place that has been blessed with wonderful students, parents, teachers, princi pals, and staff. At the end of the school year, I will be beginning a new phase in my life that will focus more on my family, helping my mother with her quilting business, and other interests. I want to thank everyone for all the love and support that you have shown me throughout the years at St. Paul School.

Love and hugs, Lora Migliaccio

PLAYGROUND DUTY

Parents are encouraged to sign up for playground duty during lunch time. When there are no parents on the schedule, teachers must give up their lunch time and prep time to go out with the children. Doing playground duty counts as service hours and it is a great opportunity for you to spend time with your child and see them playing and inter-acting with their friends. There are many open spots. Please try to help out when you can. Thank you!

INFORMATION FROM CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL - FOSTERING

Children’s Hospital has asked St. Paul School to share information about being a foster parent. If you are interest-ed in learning more about this, please check out the information at the end of today’s newsletter.

Our parish Peru ministry is traveling to the St. Clare community in June. We are collecting canes, used/usable prescription glasses and reader eyeglasses in April as a mercy action in this Jubilee Year of Mercy to support this month's focus: Comfort the Afflicted. If you have extras or can donate new items, leave them in the large suitcase near the fireplace in the Gathering Space. Your generosity appreciated.

EAGLE SCOUT FROM ST. PAUL SCHOOL

Congratulations to Nick Migliaccio, 2015 St. Paul School Alumni and a freshman at Catholic Memorial High School, who earned the rank of Eagle Scout this past week-end. For his Eagle Scout project, Nick built three wooden storage platforms for under-neath the Smart Boards and a wooden sensory table for the 3K and 4K classrooms. Not everyone who joins Boy Scouts earns the Eagle Scout rank; only about 5 percent of all Boy Scouts do so. To earn the

Eagle Scout rank, the highest advancement rank in Scouting, a Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of leader-ship, service, and outdoor skills. St. Paul School is very proud of your accomplishment at such an early age!

April 1, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians of St. Paul School,

The purpose of this letter is to inform you of our policy for tuition assistance for the 2016-2017 school year. The procedure is outlined below. If you do not need to apply for tuition assistance, you may disregard this communication and the enclosed forms, and just consider this letter as informational. Please do not complete and return any of these forms unless you are in need of tuition assistance.

1. The school has a limited amount of money available for tuition assistance through a tuition assistance fund, which includes parish funds, memorials, the John D. Goerke Fund, etc.

2. Enclosed, you will find an application for tuition assistance. You will notice that the form asks some very basic questions and requires those applying for proof of their financial situation through a copy of their 2015 federal income tax return (Summary Form Only – i.e. 1040 form, pages 1 and 2) or, if you did not file an income tax return, a copy of proof of family income (e.g. copy of Badger Care, Quest, Social Security, Child Support, etc.).

3. You must be a current St. Paul School family and be registered for the 2016-2017 school year in order to apply for assistance. If you have not done so yet, please see Mrs. Migliaccio in the school office or access the registration form online to complete your registration form prior to sending in your tuition assistance application.

4. Return the completed tuition assistance form application and proof of your financial situation by May 15, 2016 to:

John E. Shanahan, Principal

St Paul School

PO Box 95

Genesee Depot, WI 53127

Page 11: APRIL 28, 2016 ST PAUL SCHOOL NEWS YOUR TAX RECORDS – St. Paul Federal Tax ID number (39-0913322) LIKE US ON FACEBOOK ST. PAUL SCHOOL COMMITTEE POSITION AVAILABLE

5. Please mark envelope as CONFIDENTIAL. This will ensure that your information is kept private. You can rely on me to keep any and all information submitted as confidential.

6. Any forms received after May 15, 2016 at 3:15 PM will not be considered for tuition assistance for this school year. Please complete your form as soon as possible and allow for at least five days for your forms to reach the school through the U.S. Mail system. If you prefer to personally drop off your forms at the school office, please do so.

7. Upon receipt of all the forms that are submitted by May 15, the tuition assistance committee will rank those with the most need and/or extenuating circumstances. Tuition assistance will be distributed based on available funding.

8. We will personally notify you on or before May 30, by phone and letter, indicating the amount of tuition assistance your family will be receiving for the upcoming school year. Your tuition statement will reflect the amount of tuition assistance your family will be receiving for the upcoming school year.

If significant and life-changing circumstances arise during the course of the school year, such as serious illness, death, loss of job, etc. you can certainly contact the school and we can discuss these kinds of situations at that time.

We are very excited to facilitate this positive, fair and consistent procedure for tuition assistance to our families and further look forward to the opportunity of talking with potential benefactors about our great need for tuition assistance at St. Paul School. The goal is to ensure that, in the future, Catholic education can be a more affordable option for more and more families. Having a fair and consistent program of distribution of those funds is very positive and encouraging to donors.

If you have any questions or wish to discuss this with me, please call me at school at (262) 968-3175 or by email at [email protected].

All for the glory of God,

John E. Shanahan

Principal

Treatment Foster Care

Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Community Services values the educators who work with children in our community. Your skills and expertise benefit many children with emotional, behavioral, physical or medical challenges.

Please consider helping children in a different way. Become a licensed treatment foster parent.

There is a significant need for treatment foster parents to provide safe homes for our community’s most vulnerable children. The need for new treatment foster homes continues to grow and you could be the one to make the difference for a very special child or teen.

Contact Amy Basting for more information regarding the treatment foster care program with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Community Services. 414-292-4093 / [email protected]
