solve social problems at the magnitude they exist.

This may be unreasonable to most. But we believe that when the world pushes back,

we must dream forward.

2. Engaging unlikely and likely stakeholders to act (intentional influence) is central to strategy, culture.

Intentional Influence: Five key questions to answer

1. Understanding Stakeholders: Who can help solve this problem, and where do we begin?

2. Understanding Assets: What assets can we leverage to move others to act?

3. Identifying the Desired Action: What is the action we want others to take?

4. Understanding the Barriers: What are the barriers to desired action?

5. Designing an Approach: How do we move people to take the desired action?

2. KaBOOM! built an intentional influence strategy to change societal norms

Grassroots: Parents & Caregivers

•Desired Action: Play more

•KaBOOM! Strategy: Spotlight everyday heroes who promote and protect play

(i.e., “America’s Most Playful Family” partnership with Disney)

Grasstops: City Leaders

• Desired Action: Make it easier for kids to get the play they need

• KaBOOM! Strategy: Standard-setting and driving innovation

(i.e., coining “playability” to elevate play to the same status as walkability and bikability; offering play in unlikely locations like bus stops, laundromats)

“All kids get childhood filled with balanced and active play they need to thrive.”
