PLANS FOR THE NEAR FUTURE At present, we bring Communion to a small number of homebound who have called the parish office or have spoken directly with Fr Jay. We are looking to expand our opportunities to bring the Eucharist to our

homebound parishioners. While concurrently recruiting our current Extraordinary Ministers of Communion for this rewarding duty, we are seeking to identify those who are unable to attend Mass. These individuals may be homebound, disabled elderly or one who is experiencing lengthy recovery from surgery or illness and unable to come to Sunday Liturgy. Please call Nancy Dunn at 635-1700 x 12 if you are aware of someone who desires to receive Holy Communion at home on a regular basis. This is the first step in a most exciting and important outreach - helping to keep all of our parishioners connected to the Church - to our Lord. The plan is for this outreach to be launched late Spring

JSYK…Just So You Know… Recently I have been asked two questions by a number of people and so I thought it might make sense to mention them in the bulletin… Shouldn’t we be in the middle of the Cardinal’s Appeal right now? Yes, we should, but we will be beginning an Archdiocesan Capital Campaign in the coming weeks which will have a large parish goal and for which we have had to prepare a list of goals- which we hope to achieve with the money we raise. We will be asking people to make a five year pledge as a part of this special campaign. This year, we are “guaranteeing” our goal for the Cardinal’s Appeal as one of the projects we intend to fund with this Capital Campaign and therefore we will not be taking up an actual Appeal this year, but will resume next year. In the next few weeks we will be explaining this Campaign in more detail and will detail the goals that we have set for our parish Have you heard anything about whether you have been reappointed as Pastor? I have not heard anything specific, but “piecing together” the bits I have heard, that seems to be a good sign…at least they have not sent me a list of moving companies to contact. It appears that while the policy is to announce the re-appointments at the end of the term, which is July 1, you might have an inkling if there is going to be a move made. That tends to make me think that I will be staying on, but nothing is definite until the letter is received, so we wait. There is however something that you should be aware of. We are required to resign as Pastors when we reach the age of 75. You can request to remain in a parish until you are 80 with a yearly renewal. But if you stay on, you do not have the title of “Pastor” but are given the title of “Administrator”. There are canonical reasons for this but it is hard to explain unless you have had at least 4 semesters of Canon Law! There is a thought in some circles that if you cannot complete a full six year term after re appointment, you should therefore be appointed “Administrator” for the entire new term. Others say that if you can complete most of the term before before you reach 75 (and this would be my case since I would not be 75 until the last of my 6 years) you would be re-appointed with the term “Pastor”. This decision is definitely “above my pay grade” but the point is that whatever the title may be, the work is still the same, so let’s wait and see. In the mean time, thank you all for your concern and your good wishes and I hope we will continue to see each other for many more years. PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY LAND Just a reminder that there is still “room” to join the pilgrimage to the Holy land, led by Fr Jay, in October . If interested call the Parish Office or stop by to chat with Fr Backes after Mass.
